What the hell are you on about? Flogging molly are irish, and nothing to with pirates. They're not even metal. GAH! Should still listen to them, there awesome. Listening to them right now.Tenebrous_King said:Check out Flogging Molly. Scottish pirate metal ftw
Alestorm ftw! I have all their albums thus far, most epic Scottish Pirate Metal band ever ^_^Toasty said:I have recently discovered Pirate Metal(after getting interested in Metal this past year, and so far think its (for want of a better word) pretty cool. So far my favorite band in the subgenre is Alestorm. (Ill try attach a link).. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIgDq_xnhDA
So dear escapists,
Have you heard of Pirate Metal?
What do you think of it?
Any band recommendations?
Whether or not there is a such thing as 'Pirate Metal' or 'Viking Metal', I love both t bits. And Furburt, you just got extra points for music tastes. Korpiklaani's amazing.Furburt said:And instruments. Although there are no real "pirate" instruments, accordions and fiddles are used to great effect.Novskij said:No such thing as pirate metal.
Its power metal with a pirate focused lyrics and image.
OP: I love it myself, pirate themes are great fun. From what I can tell, the only good band in the scene is Alestorm. The only other big one is Swashbuckle, and they're just boring trash with boring lyrics about pirates, nothing more. EDIT: Although that Running Wild band don't sound too bad, actually.
However, if you do like Alestorm, Korpiklaani, a Finnish folk metal band, fill essentially the same niche.
Astronaut Metal?JimmyBassatti said:Oooh, that was actually good.Furburt said:Here's a good song by them.
OT: I much prefer Astronaut Metal, and Cowboy Metal. They just sound so good.
Or, alternatively, my favorite, Arabcore.
Fixed for truth.DividedUnity said:...I'm not too pushed on the vocals though, kinda sounds like a drunken scottish guy pretending to be a pirate.
EDIT: My mistake I thought they were finnish. It is a drunken scottish guy pretending to be a pirate. Makes a lot more sense
What the bloody hell is Sumeriancore? I thought I had heard them all when my friend starting telling me about "death pop" (apparently bands like A Day to Remember, Devil Wears Prada, yada yada that mix death growls with angsty choruses from nasal prepubescent boys).Bucket0Bones said:This. People have just started making up genres in Metal.Novskij said:No such thing as pirate metal.
