Playing At 6 AM

I finally finished AC: Brotherhood last night and when I looked at the clock as the credits were running, I noticed it was just after six in the morning. This is not the first time this has happened. Demon's Souls, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, and other less recent games have had me up til the wee hours of the morning because I wanted to finish them. Heavy Rain in particular is a good example because I played it exclusively (not all in one sitting) between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM.

My point is, I'm now of the opinion that if you are the type of person who can stay awake that long, it can significantly improve the gaming experience. At the cost of perhaps a bit of your reflexes, when it gets late, all of your other distractions disappear. Other people go to bed, the sun goes down; basically, the world is quiet and dark. It's just you and your console (or PC). The immersion just skyrockets.

I could go on about this, but for those of you looking for a reason to comment: has this worked for you? If not, what setting have you found automatically boosts immersion for any game you are playing?

Ihat can apply to everything that is a solo activity, I do this with games, movies, books, homework, and pretty much everything that requires a bit of a time commitment,

I've only ever played a handful of games through the night to dawn - FF7 once, C&C: Red Alert once, Minecrack a couple of times...

I was playing Just Cause 2 last night around 3 or 4am, and it was like I'd switched on God Mode. Every bullet hit its target, ever vehicle handled perfectly... very strange. I must have drifted into some zen like state of pure gamer.

When I first played Oblivion, I was up all night playing around in the arena and doing various. Spent about 15 hours playing and didn't even touch the main story.

I used to do nearly all my gaming from 21-09, and it seems that it greatly enhanced the experience. These days real-life prevents me from staying up all night and games doesn't give me anywhere near the immersion they used to.

Anyone got a winning lottery ticket I can borrow, I want my 'zero obligations life' back..

Most of my time playing TF2 is in the wee small hours. It's the only time I get a decent ping.

I usually go to bed around 2 or 3 in the morning, unless I have university classes. Although last night I didn't go to sleep until 9:30am the next day.

The reason I stayed up that long is because, I wanted to see if I could.

Although I've pulled other all nighters as well, for gaming reasons, and a DVD marathon.

It was tiring, I watched all 3 Lord of the rings movies, Peter Jackson's King Kong the extended version and Akira.

Thanks to work and school I'm not very good at staying up late, which sucks because I massively prefer the night to the day. Except for a few summer days, but still.

I agree by the way, it does help immersion, sadly I have strict parents who would nearly flog me if they'd catch me on the computer...well right now. It's past 23:00 (23:13 at time of writing) and after that my PC should be off, as should all consoles. But they went to bed without noticing my PC was on sleep mode. I basically have carte blanche right now...what to do what to do...

Fuck it, BC2:Vietnam here I come. Latest gaming session I ever pulled off was BioShock until about 3:30 or something. Time just rushed by without noticing. I think I'll only play a few matches this time.

I've done it with Mass Effect before. Also with New Vegas and lemme tell you guys: a calm, otherwise silent dark world is the perfect environment in which to set when attempting night time sniping. Especially if, as I did, you turn the in-game music off. Then you just have the sound of the wind, occasionally noises from wildlife, and your footsteps on the dirt as you move from vantage point to vantage point.

I'm actually usually up at times like 6 in the morning playing games, I have nothing better to do and I don't need too much sleep so why not play video games?

At 6am this morning I was playing Dangerous Waters, stalking Russian ballistic missile submarines in the GIUK gap with a P-3 Orion. 'Twas ossum. The occasional all night gaming session during the holidays or whatever is great fun IMHO.

It's like magic. On my days off, I can just sit in front of my 360 playing Fallout until the roomies go to sleep, and then I just fall in. I've literally done this for 10 hours in a row.

I have two: My bedroom, alone, door closed, lights off, a cup of tea beside me... or a brightly lit room, food, and friends commenting on the game. Odd, because they're kind of opposite.

I did this so much when I got Fallout 3. And when I got Fallout: New Vegas. Also with Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. These games just kept me playing and playing and playing...

I remember when I first got Oblivion there were a few all-nighters. As in, from about 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Also, whenever I go over to my best friend's house we usually end up flitting between a couple of games all night. Last time it was Black Ops and Left 4 Dead. At around midnight, we played Black Ops for about an hour and then switched to L4D and spent about four hours killing zombies.

Yeeeeeeeeah... *looks slightly embarassed* :p
