I know this has been done before. When I looked at the prior threads of this nature I was not satisfied with the responses because they offered little detail as to the games. Just the normal "buy infamous" or "buy killzone". Additionally, new games are out now. So here is my question,

What PS3 online multiplayer FPS should I get to maximize the length of time I will play before getting bored and moving on?

To put the question in context I have enjoyed the following FPS shooters online multiplayer in the past; Halo; Rainbow six vegas 1, 2; COD MF (not W@W, tired of WWII); and L4D. All of these games I had and played for months without tiring. Let me know what you think. I would like examples of gameplay, ranking systems, weapon types, glitches and cheating (dont want it), balancing issues, and updates from the developer.

This may be futile, but I would really prefer meaningful posts to a console flame war. Just so you know I have no preference. When I get the ps3 i will own all three major consoles.

Just FPS's? I guess Resistance 2 would be your best bet. I've never played Killzone myself.

I like Resistance 2 better since you can go online splitscreen with a friend and they will be logged in too. It also has the co-op missions which I find wicked awesome.

Resistance 2, Co-op never gets old because you level up all your classes and unlock really awesome stuff! And you don't play the missions from single player in co-op, you play new and different levels designed for co-op.

I would recommend Warhawk.
Really, if you have a ps3, you should have Warhawk.
Resistance and Killzone are nicer looking but Warhawk is just more fun and versatile. And besides being a great on-line multiplayer, you can also have a few friends pick up an extra controller to join in with split screen.

well you said you already played mw1 and all that really leaves is kz2 or R2 and between them its a hard choice.
illd probly go for resistance but ill break them down for you

graphics -killzone has better quality graphics but it uses alot of black and grey which is ennoying resistance is an older and less visually impressive in quality but it uses a much wider range of colours not just black ffs. so R2 has better graphics in my opinion

story mode- killzone wins there length is similar but killzone offers more variety from turret section above a planet to controlling what i can only call a mech (man shaped tank) r2 only has run and gun, dont get me wrong they nail it but there is little of variety overall, but R2 has clever and fun bosses kz2 has like 2 bosses and both are poorly made and no fun to fight. but your only fo muliplayer so thats of littl importance to u anyway

online/ofline co-op- resistance wins this hands down it has online co-op which is in my opinion the best bit i played that for a month easily its so bloody fun and addictive. i think u can splitscreen on story and you can splitscreen online kz has no co-op component so loses

multiplayer- its a tough choice they both ofer good playing types and maps. but kz2 has a gun problem which is not enough it has 2 assaults which are ver similar 1 smg 1 shotgun 1 sniper and 2 lmg which again verysimilar (there are other guns but for story only sigh) R2 has much more and have been specifically worked so no gun is overpowered. one problem with R2 is there is too much health a sniper shot takes 2 to kill (1 headshot) which is a bit weak it needs a hardcore mode. kz has a delay of movement and i cant stress how bloody ennoyng it is to turn the analogue then bout half a second of nothing then sudden turning, it in my opinion made the game worse if this and the gun shortage was tackled kz2 would be my fav game ever even more than mw but they didnt.

so i hope ive helped you make a decision about what is best for you but please b4 you decide go onto the store search and find the kz demo and try it to c if u can live with its aim delay

I have a thing for Super Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars, but there's rarely many people online. Get it, then get your mates to buy it too.

I heard that WarHawk was decent. Of course, not owning a PS3 sort of limits my options, no?

Resistance 2 is always fun for a bit of online murder. Until Massive Action Game gets out of beta, there are no bigger multiplayer battles either. If you don't want to play WAW, I'd probably wait around for MW 2.

Again, Resistance 2. The cooperative mode is great fun (unless you manage to land a team full of complete idiots, but that doesn't happen too often).

As JoshGod said, you can have a second player go online with you via split-screen (for both online modes, co-op or competitive). There are three classes to choose from in co-op (Soldier, Medic, Spec. Ops) which all complement each other to the point where all three are needed to get through a mission. Since the player is rewarded more for doing what their class is supposed to do, most players manage to keep up with their duties (shielding other teammates, healing, throwing out ammo).

I haven't really played too much of the competitive online play since I'm not all too great at it, so I can't tell you much there. There isn't a set starting weapon or berserk for matches, so you can choose your own preferred setup.

What else, what else... The weapons are all fun. There's even one that shoots through solid matter like walls, and another that hurls saw blades that will ricochet and home in on an enemy to hit more than once. Insomniac has a reputation for outlandish weaponry at this point after all the Ratchet and Clank games.

Anyway, it's a solid game for online play. The single player campaign is pretty good, too, and while it's not quite as varied as something like Gears of War 2, it's a lot of fun. There's a boss the size of large buildings and a murderous swarm of little... electric... bugs. It's worth buying.
