Despite me being a fan of the PS3 over the other two consoles, I'd have to say its pretty weak on the number of multiplayer FPS's it has. The only real contenders are, as its already been said, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2.

I personally disliked KZ2. Being pretty is kind of the only thing it has going for it, in terms of gameplay it was just incredibly average. Good to pass time I guess but not much more. Resistance 2 I've heard great things about (especially the co-op) but I confess I've only played the singleplayer mode.

Other multiplayer games worth getting are Warhawk and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.

warhwaak's alright, but i like (love) battlefield games more.
BF: Bcompany is great on 360, and the demo on ps3 was identical, difference coming down to the diffrent TV's i played it on.

WipeoutHD
Oh hey, I forgot about Wipeout HD. It's not a FPS, but it's certainly an amusing racing game. Considering all the "Let's see how much of a spectacular crash your car will manage" games, the Wipeout franchise is somewhat refreshing. The anti-gravity ships and fun weapons are a plus, and HD has some very nice visuals.

The problem I had with it is that one of my favorite play modes didn't make it in and several of my favorite tracks were cut. There's also a potential for storyline with the world established for the setting (and the advertisements for fictional companies), but it never gets taken advantage of. The closest they ever came to that was having named pilots in one of the games.

Warhawk!

Ok, not an FPS, but probably my favorite PS3 online game. It's cheaper than KZ2 and R2 also.

I would recommend Warhawk.
Really, if you have a ps3, you should have Warhawk.
Resistance and Killzone are nicer looking but Warhawk is just more fun and versatile. And besides being a great on-line multiplayer, you can also have a few friends pick up an extra controller to join in with split screen.
Yeh that

I hear Resistance is good. I also have friends who play Warhawk but other sources inform me that this is shit.

Have you checked out WipeoutHD: Fury, yet? The expansion to HD? 3 new game modes added:

Detonator - Basically trying to chain explosions of mines in a track that gets progressively faster (ala Zone battle), your ship shoots both gun and a wave that charges.

Zone Battle - Hard to explain, run over pads, increase your zone boost. Save up the zone boost for a massive zone 'jump' (catapults you ahead in zone rank), while also creating a 'zone net' that hurts...really badly, if you run into it. 1st person to whatever the zone limit is, wins.

Eliminator - This fucking rules. Goal - Kill the pre-determined amt of opponent racers, death doesn't end the game, but reduces your total points, that're accrued from killing opponents. Hit L2 and do a 180 to go the opposite direction...Hitting the entire back in reverse w/ a quake is pretty damn satisfying.

In addition, a bunch of new vehicle skins, and a few new tracks. Pretty worthwhile if you like Wipeout imo.
They brought Eliminator back? I loved Eliminator in Pulse! I'm going to have to go check for updates, I haven't played in a while.
