tell me I'm not the only one who thinks that the new Assassins Creed has gone too far.. I mean, the games have always been easier to play as a slaughterhouse than as a genuine stealth game, but the first two at least gave you the ability to be covert.

Of all the trailers I've seen it seems they ahve thrown caution to the wind and taken the standard modern gaming route of 'butcher everything before you in the most fantastic fashion', I mean seriously - fighting a siege with no armour against a colossal enemy force, manning rapid fire cannons anf throwing battleaxes? the E3 campaign preview to me looked more like a cross between Medieval Total War and Battlefield Bad Company than a game which deserves the word 'Assassin' in the tital.

And as for the trailer with the bunch of assassins all ganging up on the pope? looked like a trailer for Reach (or any other game with a 'close knit squad of battle hardened verterans each with their own style of fighting')

the game has lost any veneer of individuality it once had in order to sell more copies

Anyone agree with me?

I was curious about the game until I saw the multiplayer in action.
Now I can't wait for it.

I always found the sci-fi and philosophical aspects of the Assassin's Creed story just pretentious and not very well done, but the actual game-play is freaking sweet. And this new addition looks like more of the same. Some changes, sure, but pretty similar, as well as the sweet multiplayer.

Sign me up.

I gave up on Assassin's Creed when the first game promised me a level of stealth combat that I would not recieve until Batman: Arkham Asylum showed up and saved the day. Never played the second, don't intend to play the third. I'll just wait for more Batman to fulfill my stealth needs thank you very much.

I can see where your coming from. However the new Brotherhood game is just a spinoff and not part of the main games. So they're using it to put in ideas and things that wouldn't work in the main games.

I dunno...I played the first and got bored with it. In my opinion, you go to an area do the same repetitive tasks over and over again to gain "valuable info" which is mostly practically useless, and then finally get to assassinate which is awesome. I dunno, I prefer GTA and RDR...The multiplayer looks interesting but I won't buy a game just for the MP. Enough being a troll...

Um, yeah, I do see why some people like the game and think that the trailer (as you describe) seems like they're messing with the formula that the fans love. If it, indeed, changes everything, then I welcome you to the world of Silent Hill and Sonic fans...though Mario's doing good.

The multiplayer looks to me like a nightmare as well, I'm not a fan of multiplayer much so I didn't bring it up, but the backstabbing (as in AvP) is something I particularly loathe

I'll wait to play it before I really slate it, but this is just a response to the mountains of praise I'm being bombarded with on Facebook and the fact that as soon as I complain there I just get 'go die chris'

This, though the Codex pages in AssCreed 2 were really the only good parts of the game, becuase they actually were philosophically interesting. I've been disappointed in the series so far, so trying to take it to a new direction can't hurt.

At least this way I won't have to play as Ezio.

This is a step in the right direction. Everyone knows stealth is terrible, so why not do away with it entirely?

How are you complaining about a game that hasn't even been released yet?
Never underestimate the ability of nerds to complain about things.

Seriously though, I would expand this into why are you even thinking about a game before it's been released. By this point, we should all realize how evil and manipulative marketing companies are, and these are the people who are in charge of this stuff. They will lie straight to your face if they think it will sell one more copy. You are infinitely better off waiting until the actual game ends up in the hands of a reviewer whose opinion you find roughly corresponding to your own.

I pity you. The second one was basically a perfect version of the third, stealth included and neccessary as well as guards being far less easily annoyed. Judging the second one on the first one is like eating flour then declining to eat cake because it didnt taste nice.

Most of your argument is about how it looks like it won't be the same as the previous installments. A change of pace could bring a great game in its own right, like Splinter Cell: Conviction.
did you just say Conviction was a good game?
I second that inquiry. You can't tell me with a straight face that Conviction is even half as interesting as the other games

Well they released the multiplayer on iPhone/iPod Touch with a top down view and graphical downgrade. The gameplay worked well in my opinion. Balancing blending with the crowd and chasing opponents puts a balance in the fact that you are both the hunter and the prey

I wasn't all that impressed with the first one to be entirely honest, and the DRM issues convinced me to refuse to support the second one in any form... even out of a bargain bin.

That said I tend to agree in a general sense, this is supposed to more or less be an Assasin/Stealth type game, rather than a beat 'em up or war game. If they want to make a game like the one they are displaying they should start a new franchise, not try and take the name "Assasin's Creed" and stick it to the front... Heck, they could even get away with a spin off series, and simply not use the "3" given the apparent focus on a totally differant type of gameplay.

As far as the bit about attacking The Pope, well it strikes me as an attempt to be offensive for the sake of being offensive and contreversial. I'm not a Catholic, though I generally respect The Pope like I do most holy men (including those not of my religion) even when I disagree with them. I think they're asking for it to be entirely honest.

But then again I didn't much care for the political/historical reinventionist stance present in the first game with the killing of various crusaders and the way the entire thing was portrayed.

I understand the whole "Borgia" thing, and I'm not too fond of his reign, but truthfully if they are going to pull something like this they should probably have chosen an anti-pope like Bonafice to be the bad guy, someone who was only only deeply corrupt and twisted, but also despite their following was not acknowleged to have held the office. That would have been consideraly less offensive while covering much of the same territory.

I'm actually hyped for the multiplayer.

The thing that I liked about Assasins Creed was when I was being pursued. It was a game within a game. Now, I'm imagining being pursued by other players with the same skills as me. I really hope that the rush I had when I played the AC1 pursuits will be present in the multiplayer.

As for the singleplayer, I didn't had a chance to play AC2. I can't really comment on that.
