Sorry peeps but if the main complaint are graphics, then I don’t see it as a major reason to not buy the game.
It's not the main complaint as I see it. My main complaint is emptiness. The environments look uninspired and scarcely populated by anything-- not just pokemon & NPCs, but anything, even just environmental assets.

It gives the impression that effort wasn't made. And that's a feeling that's compounded by bare-bones animations, and the low-effort impression that Sword & Shield made.

I mean... I had fun with Sword & Shield. But it's clearly lower effort than Sun & Moon were, and on their home-console debut!? And from what I've seen in gameplay vids of Brilliant Diamond/ Shining Pearl, that was pretty low effort too.

It feels like they're just painting by numbers. But yeah, I'll await post-release vids and reviews before I actually finally decide. Just bad vibes.

I understand that but if graphics were the only issue then That’s not enough to sway my opinion. Some of my favorite games of all time don’t look graphically great like Dragon Age Origins.

I just think holding a game to the fire because of graphics is nonsensical. Graphics is the lowest priority for me when it comes to buying games.
Here is why you are wrong. This isn't deliberately a lower graphical game. Games like Undertale, and Stardew Valley, and Shovel Knight, and Dead Cells, etc etc etc, the reason why they work is they are using poor graphics as a stylized choice. For budget reasons and or artistic reasons.

This is a AAA game clearly made in the laziest way possible, and I wouldn't be surprized to find out that the "open-world" is just an expansion from the assets they made in the 3DS verison of Sword and Shield. In inexcusable, and it's just another reason why we get shit like the GTA "definitive edition" because people will roll over and take it.

Look the gameplay might be phenominal, but if the game looks like shit and animates like shit, then it doesn't matter how fun the game ends up being a bad presentation can still ruin that.

Graphics do matter, they aren't the most important part, but they also can't look like dogshit just because the developer wanted to be lazy or cheap. Pokemon has no excuse to look like crap.

I still believe that Sword and Shield were built on 3DS and Nintendo demanded they move the game to the Switch and simply didn't have enough time to polish and add to the games the way they could have if they stuck with the 3DS.

But these newer games are no excuse and was sucks the most is that we KNOW they are capable of good shit still because Let's Go Pikachu looks awesome imo on Switch.

Like I said I’m not blind to other criticisms. I’m not gonna buy blindly. I will wait the final verdict.

But it's for the Switch, can't do that much better in the graphics department.

The problem is the Switch came out underpowered.

The issue with graphics in this case serves as an example that the Switch is still a generation behind from its competitors.

Nintendo better use all that Switch money to make a console that's even better then the Xbox Series X.

To me the last good Pokemon game is Generation 5/Black and White era.
So I've been told or heard from other Pokemon fans. Some fans say Diamond & Pearl, but I honestly don't care either way.

The weak switch doesn't help, but I don't think that's anywhere near the most important aspect. Breath of the wild looks way better than this.

As far as best generation, I have no idea how it'd be possible to rank them, they're all the same!

Ugh, it really really wants to be BotW doesn't it?
That's the part that makes me somewhat interested in the game despite everything else, but the key part of that sentence is "wants" cause it doesn't seem like they're able (or maybe willing) to go all the way.

It's so awkward when they go from open world action (dodging attack, aiming pokeball) to turn based combat.

Also that yellow pokemon look like a placeholder model they forgot to add texture.

That's how it will look. It launches in two weeks, and it would seem strange they are marketing the game with trailers and not have the final textures in place.

The Switch is comparatively weak compared to current or last-gen consoles, yes, but the Switch has released games that look better than this time and time again.

The obvious example of Breath of the Wild aside, the Switch has competent ports of Metro 2033 Rudux, Metro Last Light Redux, and even The Witcher 3, which are three games that I would have said were beyond the Switch's capabilities.

The issue with this game's graphics isn't that the console is weak, its that the game is either very poorly optimised, or it was lazily put together - and judging by the fact that the game is not only ugly, but empty, I am going to go with the latter.

There are still plenty of games that are doing their own thing, or copying something else. There are more Dark Souls clones than there are BOTW clones.
I'm obviously not saying that EVERY game out there are actually copying BotW, just a bit of sarcasm. I just find it amusing how many games saw its formula and success and dropped everything to be like it. Hell, even Sonic is doing it
