Pokemon Black/White Surprises Nobody By Selling Amazingly Well

I just wish they'd do something to make pokeballs less expensive. This has ALWAYS been a problem in pokemon because you simply don't get much money. Exasperated by there being some pokemon who cannot be caught without some specialized ball (and absolutely no way to tell I've found playing it straight).

Here's an idea:
When a pokemon breaks free you pick up broken pokeball parts or something. For a lesser charge than buying new you can get them repaired into working pokeballs again. Heck go even further and have some guy who can take multiple ball parts and make specialized balls for less than buying them new.

Seriously, this one is for free, all I ask is to see it (or something like it) done so I can die happy.

Good to see it being successful, but who didn't see this coming?

I'm curious whats in White that made it more successful than Black? Is it the cool looking legendary on the cover(and in the game?)
Indeed.

And, I would have to say that the Pokemon White legendary (Zekram) looks much better than the albino dragon/bird thing in Pokemon Black. But that's just me (I have Pokemon White, obviously).

Obligatory statement: This generation is pretty damned fun.

Well, that article doesn't say anything about what Black/White may have done differently. Until I know that I'll be buying something at least a significant amount different from D/P, I don't really plan on buying a game from the 5th generation. Not only that, but they're obviously going to continue the pattern of "release game missing a tiny bit and come out with an updated version for $50 half a year later.", a pattern that has annoyed me to the point that I no longer buy Pokemon games until that version is released.

I take it buying the white or black version gets you a special bonus that the other doesn't have?
Besides having the ability to catch the cover pokemon (which is why I think white sold better, Zerkom is the more recognized and hyped legendary), the feel of the game is different.

Its actually far beyond you being able to catch a caterpie or a weedle. The entire game feels different cause white is more fuedal times, while black is more modernized. Plus you get the different zones.

OT: MY GOD, YOU CANT BE SERIOUS!! Alert the media of this monumentous discovery, post haste!

Seriously though, it'd be more shocking if it sold less then 2.5 million copies (both games combined) then it sold well.

I plan on getting Black to go with my 3ds on the 27th (hopefully). What is the real difference? or is it just people buying things based on what colour they like better?
There are minor storyline differences and some cosmetic differences. The biggest difference is in Black you have access to the Black City and the White Forest in White.

On an aside note, hurray for the Pokemon series succeeding once more! Let's continue to develop further with each game!
Yeah I knew there were always little things like certain Pokemon only in different versions, I was just wondering if there was anything big.
But then again, thinking about it, when you sell 5 million, 13 000 copies is insignificant.

Wow. And Pokemon White's better? Hurray for no equality bull about white being better than black! I was worried that racist people would blame Nintendo. I'm hopefully getting White today.

On an off note, Scott, if you typed the title, you mispelled "surprise" =/. Sorry for being a grammar nazi.

I'll be getting Pokemon Black anyway just because I've always had the first named (Blue,Gold, etc)

Furthermore 13,000 copies more white than black isn't a lot when you take into consideration that they sold 5,000,000 copies - which on it's own is VERY impressive.

Can't wait till I get this game on my birthday! :D

Plus, the fact that it was only $35 USD helps things.
Has it changed at all?

In terms of story?

wake up in house, Fight pokemon + save professor, pick pokemon ,get pokedex, fight rival, get 8 badges, beat gang, get legend, fight elite 4?

Actually, apparently in this game, money is a lot more abundent. Also, equip an Amulet Coin on your slot1 pokemon. Even if it's knocked out, because it was in the battle, you get double cash from trainers.

As for what the add-on game (aka Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum) will be called... Maybe "Chrome" (as in monochrome) or some offshoot name for "Grey" will be used.

I love the pokémon series... But I'm sorry, the new gens pokémon designs makes me want to kill something.

So.

SILLY.

I'll probably get this one though, eventually. Or something.

I got black and so far I am pleasantly surprised. There are a great many changes (improvements) compared to previous generations. Generally they were small changes in the past but this one almost feels like a different game.

I got White because the legendary looks fucking awesome, and Dragon/Electric is so fucking badass.

I'll try not to rant on and on about what I like about this game, since that would require another half an hour that I don't have, and since I've done it twice already, lol.
Everything that I've done so far in the game, I've really enjoyed.

It certainly is more challenging than any other Pokemon game that I've played to date, and they've actually successfully done what they've been trying (and failing) to do over all these years: make alot of "WHAT THE HELL?!" type combos that every single other game has not had..

Gen 2 (Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal) will still always be my favorite generation, and (imo) most ground breaking game.

If it isn't broken, and its been working for 10 years, why change it?

So far(got to the third gym) its gone like this:

Wake up in house, talk to 2 friends who came into room, open present and choose pokemon, fight both friends, got to professor, learn how to catch pokemon, get pokedex, and get badges. Throughout journey you battle your friends, fight the gang, and catch pokemon.

So no, the core of the game hasn't changed, but so much more has changed thats its well worth it.

With the gang though, its less silly than the others. They're focused on "liberating" pokemon, believing that trainers capturing and using pokemon for battles is morally wrong. It opens up some interesting questions that you wouldn't expect from a kid-centric franchise like pokemon.

Which is a shame because the series could do well with an overhaul.

Including that fire/physic Pokemon that is only obtainable until mid April certainly won't hurt sales

From what the reviews are saying, Black and White are the best ones yet. I won't get iot cause I'm in the habit of getting the released later, combination one (like Yellow, Emerald, or Platinum). Presumably, this generation will be Pokemon Grey... Hmm. Exciting.

But to the point, the game is pretty much the best so far, according to critics.
You have to remember though Yellow required both red and blue to get all of the Pokemon, in japan yellow was released with green to make a complete pair. Every third option we have ever gotten had a 4th that stayed in japan for some damn reason.

I'm waiting for an official MMO that will never be made because they make way too much money off of gameboy releases, probably why they haven't ordered the unofficial MMO to cease and desist.

Hmm... Might buy it if my DS is still working and if I can find it. And if I get the money. If not, i'l find OTHER ways.

I think that Pokémon could easily have a better story, which would vastly improve things. GameFreak really missed an opportunity with Team Plasma - they finally questioned the ethics of forcing pokémon to fight each other in game, but once again demonized Team Plasma as if they were the same as Team Rocket. They could have a revolution occur, in which people begin fighting for the rights of pokémon, and the player could choose a side. However, they insist on using the same story telling formula.
