My one gripe really is the evolutions of all the starters have sucked mostly since Gold with exceptions to Piplup and Snivy.

A lof of good pokemon are ruined by their ugly evolution, so I have to end up giving them everstones. :S

you're not that intimidating =p
Are you sure? ;)

admittedly, some of the newer ones are badass looking, but i mean some of the newer ones seem as if they're not even trying... especially with the names.. i feel like the overall quality of the older pokemon was higher

I dunno. The first generation had the best glitches. That was so much fun testing....

Yes, the new versions are more glitch free. They also have made the combat more complex.

Yet I kinda like the simplicity of the first generation.

In all honest Mr. Mime isn't as bad as the Pokemon black final evolution of that pig starter named Emboar, Nintendo you only use puns if they're going to be funny. Emboar is not funny.

Granted I do have to admit that there are quite a bit of cool looking Pokemon in this generation compared to Pearl and Diamond which had maybe 2 Pokemon that imo weren't utter crap when it comes to design.

Now I haven't played the 5th gen games yet so I'm gonna show you the old and the not quite new but still kinda recent pokemon side by side
First one's for the birds

Next we've got the humanoids

third, the plants
Now since I can't remember any rock pokemon from 4th gen we're putting in a 3rd gen one
And lastly, the slugs

as you can probably see, plenty of awesome has been spread around throughout the games

tepig is a pig. lleperd is a leopard. gurdurr is holding a girder. krookodile is a crocodile with a robber mask on it. i'm gonna have to say that's a little more inane than, say, pidgeotto. at least pokemon like arcanine and ursaring used the latin form of whatever animal they were instead of the english one

i think we both can... let's just agree that both generations need to increase their creativity...

I do like the pokemon's designs better in the first and second generations but the way the battle system changed, especially in the fourth generation not specifically assigning the type of attack (physical or special) to the type of that attack was the best thing ever.

Plus the story in the fifth generation was actually much better than I expected with more characters involved with the storyline. Sure it was still, "young kid starts from scratch, saves world." but it's getting a deeper storyline and more important characters with every game.

I mean, I even used a legendary in my party for like the first time ever because of the epicness of the final pair of battles at the end of White's storyline.

Or is my nostalgia kicking in?...

It just seems like the art was better and less... How should I put it complicated?... No thats not the right term... Alright lets provide some examples.

Cyndaquil

Now... I always liked him from the moment I nabbed him in silver...

Then I see this.. And can't help but to compare

Tepig

I can't bring myself to play the newer games...

Why exactly is this?
Pokémon has improved at least tenfold since the first game was released. Gens 3, 4, and 5 have bettered what was an extremely (horrifically) broken game.

If you seriously cannot play the new gens of games because you don't like the design of the Pokémon, then you need to rethink the reason you play games. Not to mention that the first two gens have some of the worst designed Pokémon yet.

In short: Yes its your nostalgia, if you can't play the games because you don't like the designs of the new Pokémon, then don't play them. Stop complaining.

(I haven't even played the 4th or 5th gen games). ... The gameplay was faster than before, which made the 4th gen games seem intolerably slow by comparison. And also it introduced the dual villain factions, which was cool.
A continuity error seems to have arisen.

Yeah, there's just too many Pokemon now, without any good reason. The gamedesigners should have spent less time thinking of lame pokemon (in the South Park / Family Guy style) and more on innovative stories or gameplay.

(I played every generation of Pokemon and always watch South Park and Family Guy)

There are only 151 pokemon the rest is blasphemy!!! You have been warned.
Except so many of the original 151 are pretty terrible. (152 if you count missingno [with smiles on face])

Diglet, dugtrio, magniton, jynx, magneton, voltorb, electrode, exeggcute, goldeen, grimer, muk.

Then there's that pokemon that was COMPLETELY useless in Gen 1 and is only REMOTELY useful in gen 2 and up for breeding. Ditto.

It's just nostalgia talking. Gen 4 (and I GUESS gen 5) are vastly improved gameplay-wise. If you can't see how the core gameplay is better, then there is something substantially wrong with your taste in games.

And I think that anyone who'd argue the new pokemon are well designed and are good are oblivious that 90% of them are copies of other pokemon from previous generations. Which is NOT a good thing, it just means the game has become a spinoff of itself and that's just not a good thing in my head.
Yeah. God forbid anybody, oh I don't know, just plain likes the designs more or anything. They're obviously just oblivious to the fact that older designs are better (since original always means better, naturally).
Then enjoy your lame spin off of something instead of asking for something original. I don't really care how you take my opinion on the matter. You can point at any design and just say "copy of pikachu" or "copy of magnamite" easily with these pokemon.

It'd be fine if a few were inspired but I'm talking like the B&W pokemon are literally copies of the older pokemon as if another company were trying to make their own pokemon game. It lacks originality and if you're okay with that then that's fine for you. But if they're gonna make a new game with "new pokemon" I'd have hoped for actual new ones and not a slight visual change.
Where the heck are these pikachu and magnemite copies you speak of?

Both gens have things that are better and worse. The first one was original. The basic formula hasn't changed that much and some people are tired of it. Second would be the designs, most of the new ones in black and white are just reskinned ones of old generations but even tho every gen has had some pretty retarded looking ones, grimer is still better than trubbish. While a lot of people say the new mechanics are better, and for the most part I have to agree. Reusable TMs are probably one of the best ideas. However one idea that was thrown out pissed me off, being able to cut grass. Everyone knows gen V's encounter rate is insane, and you're not even able to cut the grass and avoid it. Since I haven't played gen III or IV, I don't know when they took that out it it annoys me!

Technically no. I mean all the games are exactly the same in every way save for new graphics and pokemon. TO say the older games were better would be wrong technically. It always seemed lazy to me that they never made the jump to bigger consoles while they had the chance and the best they do is pokemon stadium games which suuuck.

God, is NerfNow insightful.

One word can summarize this all:

Nostalgia.

Ugh, yes. I mean the newer Pokemon look so stupid. Here, I have pic explaining it pretty well.

Yeah the newer designs are "busier", but they have their goods and their bads. Plus each new generation added some interesting features to the games.

I'm getting tired of getting quoted for this. It's how I felt if you disagree then that's fine and dandy. The pikachu clone is that flying squirrel and magnamite are the floating gears, my friends who were playing the game and I agreed it's just s silly spinoff/copy.

Again, if you disagree fine and dandy its how I felt.
