Whoo! A reason to buy a DS! I'm playing through Blue right now...I'd forgotten how addicting these games are. Although those are some funky names...

DON'T BUY THIS. We need to send a message to Nintendo that they can't just put a new coat of paint on a Pinto and claim it's a Mazda 3 (I don't know much about cars, other than the Pinto and the one I own).
Now now, don't be that way. Not buying things from Nintendo does us no good, as they lose money and then we get worse titles down the road (funky names notwithstanding). Besides, it's not a new coat of paint--It's buffing the scratches from the last coat, making it shinier overall, and redoing the upholstery. Who knows, maybe they'll even change up the dashboard, and replace some spark plugs. It's at least worth watching the news for.

Well I know some of my student loan'll be going in spring.

He does raise a good point about translation enough people know the "story" well enough. Just make sure I can understand the words "Go _____ beat _____ win league go Kanto"

Yay, Silver all the way! Silver was the first game I ever got on Gameboy Colour; for that matter, it was the first handheld game I ever played, and it seriously was fantastic, the pinnacle of the Pokemon series. Plus, it's the only Pokemon game in which I finished the pokedex (granted only the pokedex; I borrowed most of the pokemon from a friend, then traded back straight away)!

It'll be nice to get the old team back together; Typhlosion, Tyranitar, Dragonite, Tentacruel, Farfetch'd and Haunter. Ah, blessed nostalgia, thou art a merciful goddess...

PS: This article made me fire up my old silver game to check if my party was still rearing to go, and I think the memory must have degraded; it's only got the option for a new game. It saddens, and merely strengthens my resolve to let their legacy live on in a remake...

They were a truly formidable bunch.

Not really, if you don't buy a product, the company tries to change it up, make it more fresh. Actually upgrade it. I don't really like Final Fantasy, but at least they change-up their gameplay once in a while. I'm not saying that it wasn't good the first time, but just like vomiting up a lobster dinner, the second time is completely unnecessary and slightly unpleasant.

Yes, but this is kind of a blessing since all the internal batteries in the GSC catridges have failed and no longer allow the games to save. I see your point about it not making the series any better but it kind of is necessary. Unless you go through the trouble of replacing the internal battery which requires a lot of fiddling and a soldering iron to do.

Then, of course, you have the disgruntled "purists" who refuse to enjoy any Pokemon but the original 151 because they're grumpy like that. But hey, their loss.
Hey, you can't deny just how much fun those crazy glitch pokemon were. Not to mention unlimited master balls.

Yes, but a better course of action would just to get a ROM of the game. You already bought it, so you shouldn't feel bad about being able to play it. The battery dying is Nintendo's fault as well, for my LoZ: Oracle games, as well as my original Pokemon Blue still work fine. If you buy the remake for that, then you're telling Nintendo that it's OK to put an expiration date on a game and then charge full price years later for the same game with a little upgrade. It's the same reason I didn't buy Metroid: Zero Mission.

Already ahead of you on that one. I no longer have a working gameboy/gbc, so it's my only venue for playing those wonderful titles again. Until I get a ds, anyway, and pick up the new silly sounding remakes of fantastic games.

But that's my point. Why buy the same game at full price again when you have the ROM?

Because it's a new way of playing. That, and there are no DS ROMs/emulators yet (and if there are, PLEASE let me know). It's the same reason people buy games on Wii Shop, XBLA, or Steam. It's the same old game, but now you can play it differently.

Then I guess they will have to wait until Spring to get my money. Their loss.

I actually don't mind too much, as I'm going to be spending a lot of money on Halo: ODST and Tekken 6, but Spring? If I had a Christmas list, I'd put "Ask me in three months."

I think there are DS emulators. I've seen a (crappy, oh so crappy) PS3 emulator, so DS wouldn't be too far-fetched. And as for the shops, you're buying the full game, in original (or visually upgraded) form. It allows people to experience a game they may have missed out on, or cannot get due to it being hard to find. It's not throwing a new coat of paint onto an old game, then kicking it out the door at full-price again.

I want it, even if it does mean funding Nintendos rise to world domination. It'll be worth it to revisit Silver. Maybe this time I'll finally catch a Suicune.
