Cool idea and something I hope, though my Pokemon days are well over, to the UK as I know tons of people who would be up for this kind of thing were it to happen over here as well.
On a wider note, I think the coming of the Wii has had another effect apart from setting Ubisoft mental with their shovelware machine ploning a crappy title with too many Z's in it every ten seconds is that we're thinking more about face to face gaming than we would have otherwise. I've noticed more and more people asking for splitscreen and so on and I put it down to everyone having at least played Brawl or MKWii over the past few years and remembering the fun of facing off with your mates, passing the pad and so on.
I know we're all about the "hardcore" online shooters in the main but there's still a lot of us who enjoy playing face to face whether it's on the couch with home consoles or with DS/PSP by Wi-Fi/Ad Hoc with Pokemon or MH as well as pure Vs gaming. I think a lot of devs haven't included splitscreen modes because it would spoil their games' HD beauty but if we keep asking we'll get more and more devs doing the decent thing and embarrassing yourself and your mates in the flesh will be a common, or more common, experience than we might have imagined at one point. My eldest boy is always having splitscreen sniper face offs with his pals at home so the desirte is still there even in younger(he's 16)gamers used to the online anonymity of Halo or COD which I found refreshing. He would have loved to have been able to join in with this as well so, again, a UK event would be cool as.
