So many good memories with those games as a kid.

Totally giving Pokemon my money when this comes out.

I'm sure I will still have a stupid grin on my face when I play them too in all their black and white glory. :D

God damn Nintendo... you keep milking that cow....

It doesn't matter if it's dead and you're just pulling puss.

This is a new level though... at least the last time they re-released red and blue, they made it 3d, or something.
The original Gameboys, colours and advanced didn't have back lighting, unless u have a GB Advanced SP, u literally have to get the right angle to see it.

at least with this version it won't be an issue, and i would of thought some bug fixes would be done as well, otherwise it would be on the eShop already. Can't be more than just slapping it on there, they are, or have obviously been working on this for a while.

I grew up during the age of gameboy, I know all about how they worked.

making the system work for your screen isn't something to brag about.

At the very least, this is important for historical preservation. The original releases....have not aged well. Compared to their successors, they're horrendously barebones, are very grindy, and are INSANELY imbalanced. Still, it's important to preserve the past.

Huh, that's an interesting move. Nice of them to bring 'em back. Some of my favourite Pokemon avatars were in the originals, since they were so oddly done in a different style.

Now they just need to bring back the gameboy advance or NDS design and I might give a shit.

I distinctly remember Pokemon Blue having a blue tint to everything on my GBC. I'd be surprised if color options don't make it into the rerelease.
That said, my trend of only using the 3DS for monster collection will continue. I skipped out on ORAS, but I can't avoid new copies of R/B/Y.
If you play the original cartridges on a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance, you could change the color palette of the games. Four using the D-pad, four using the D-pad while holding A, and four using the D-pad while holding (you guessed it) B. Twelve in all. I often played using Red's color scheme on my Blue Version. I'll be gassed if this function makes its way to the re-release. There are more buttons to press now.

Ye gods how do you make a gallery *insane desire to put this into his forum posts*

... As for the re-release, I think it's a great move but I don't really think those games will benefit much from the reboot. I mean how can one repackage such an utterly basic offering?

Sigh. Nintendo have really given up with this, haven't they. Not even a remaster, but just the original in all its pixely, imbalanced, bare bones glory. Are they going to include the bugs as well? Because if not, I see a lot o Missingno abuse coming this way. Looking back on the evolution of pokemon, this kind of thing isn't even treading water. More like staying in that one puddle you find comfortable. This is good for historical preservation purposes, but we've yet to see how much they're going to charge for them. To everyone who's not played the originals before and are thinking of picking this up: tone your expectations way the fuck down. Pokemon started out as essentially made out of lego and written by a pre-schooler.

This is trading purely on nostalgia. My argument is thus:
1) Silver and Gold are the better Pokemon GB titles.
2) The GBA remakes are much better versions of the original games.

My problem with the originals isn't even the grinding or the imbalances. Its the awful input lag when walking around.

Wow, that's cool! I can't believe I never once pressed the D-pad during the start up screen! It works on other Gameboy games too, neat!

OT: Not interested in re-release, I still have my original Pokemon cartridges, and you're not getting the real experience if the game is back lit.

While this is certainly nice for those that enjoyed those games, unless they also fix the immense amount of issues, I have no interest in it. That said, if they're willing to put in wireless trading, that might happen, so who knows.

(I'm also curious if a certain infamous glitch is able to be found.)

Ah for a minute there I read it as a those three games getting a remake on the 3DS which I wasn't too thrill about (no offence but I'm not excited for those game getting the 3D treatment).

Still I wonder if the eshop version will be fully intact or some of the advantage will still be removed (like something about the move Toxic was OP back then).

I'd kind of prefer the Firered/Leafgreen remakes to be honest. Actually, are there even GBA games on the eShop? I don't see why there wouldn't be. Same with SNES games for that matter, a 3DS should be able to play those.

Just a quick note to the few people who've been living under a rock for the past 5 years that think Nintendo are doing this "to milk the franchise/for quick cash"; This is happening due to popular demand, people have been asking for the original games to be re-released on virtual console and/or mobile/cell phones for years and years.

Yes it's flawed, yes it's buggy, yes it's unbalanced but it's a look at where the series started and they've obviously put some effort into it because they've modified the link cable functionality to work with the 3DS wireless (which as far as I know is something modders/hackers haven't ever been able to do with any type of emulator on any platform).

It likely won't be any more expensive than current GB virtual console titles which is under $10, and considering the cost of getting 1 of the actual cartridges ($30+ loose, +$60 loose with a working battery) I'd say that's a pretty good damn deal.

Huh, I'm torn on this. As re-releases go this is pretty neat and I'll almost definitely get it, even though I still have working copies of Blue and Yellow somewhere. I'll be a little disappointed though if we don't get something more major for the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, I was hoping they'd do a full-fledged remake of RB/FRLG, perhaps on the Wii-U. I can still hope for something later in 2016 I guess.
Why not a new Pokemon Colosseum?
I liked Colosseum, and XD: Gale of Darkness, but I prefer the traditional format they've had on the handhelds and if they were returning to consoles, I'd rather they make something more like that. I've thought for a while a properly updated Kanto remake, not just reskinned in modern graphics like FRLG, would be pretty awesome. Not that I think it's particularly likely from what Game Freak have said about wanting to keep the main series on handhelds, but hope never dies.

Oh dear, time for everyone's nostalgia to be shattered.

Red, blue and yellow were badly made games. Fantastic concept, but the games themselves were pretty poorly made. Seriously, they live in the past where it was a novel thing, but we've had so many better games now. Heck, gold and silver fixed most of the issues with the first series.

This won't stand up at all.
