So out of curiosity today, I started looking up upcoming pokemon games. After finding out the rough release period for Black and White 2, it got me thinking, considering heart gold came out roughly a year or so after Platinum, should we be expecting a remake of Ruby and Sapphire? If this is the case, what more is it that they can do to the formula, I'm mean in all fairness these games were probably the first were they started adding in all the extra crap that's in the current games, which was kind of the justification for the remakes in the first place. What I'm saying, is that are we to expect a full remake, or will they do something else and if so, what would that be. Me, I wouldn't mind them doing things up a little bit then releasing it on the e-shop, with different versions for the dsi and 3ds. In reality I expect it to just be a full remake at market price, but lets think hard about what they can do here fellow escapist. What do you think they'll do escapist and to a lesser extent when do you think it will be released.

The thought of remaking Ruby/Sapphire is strange to me. They don't feel like old games, at least not in the same way the Red/Blue and Gold/Silver did at the time of their respective remakes.

Are fans asking for a remake of Ruby and Sapphire?

I haven't heard much of anything on the Pokemon front for a while now.

That generation seems too "modern" to me too, but I think that's just because I don't feel as nostalgic towards them as the older games. I still think they could get remakes if age is the only factor.

But I think that Nintendo don't really want or have the time to do it. They're focusing on B&W2 right now, which are using the same engine as B&W (I think), so to me that looks like that is what they have decided to do instead of R&S remakes.

They still feel modern, at least as much as Fire Red and Leaf Green, which were also on the GBA.

If they were to remake Ruby and Sapphire, I'd probably just expect to see updated 3Dish graphics and the more modern way of catching roaming legendaries. Latios and Latias were a royal pain in the arse.

Since you can get Latios and Latias in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, I don't think we will be seeing a remake.

In all fairness though, B&W2 are basically the thing they do every time after the release a new area, expanding sort of, allowing for the capture of a new legendary at the same time. I'll agree though that they simply feel to new to be remade, but Nintendo has made it a habit since Ruby and Sapphire, so it would be ignorant to ignore the possibility altogether. I mean, they are almost 10 years old, that's how old gold was when it got remade.

Can't you also get the Hoenn starters as well as the legendary trio?

I'm pretty sure there won't be a remake of the games soon. I would still buy it if there was but I'm a slave like that.

There'll most likely be a Ruby/Sapphire remake. There's always a remake after a new generation so I bet it'll be on the 3DS.

Very, very weird to think that they're 10 years old now.
I remember playing them very thoroughly; they just don't have that sense of long-gone nostalgia that R/B/Y and G/S/C have.

On the subject of remakes, I'd prefer a sequel.
Black & White 2 are looking very promising, and I think this is the new direction Pokemon should take. I loved Hoenn, and Ruby is still by far my favourite Pokemon game, but I've already played it all.
And HD, 3D, expanded remake won't cut it I think, I'd prefer new characters, stories, etc like B&W2 have.

It shall also be extremely awesome transferring my original Gorebyss onto it, since it's have been the Pokemon I've kept the longest, back from the original Ruby.

Aside from Black and White 2?

Anyway, I'd assume Ruby and Sapphire remakes may be up for grabs, it's hard to get a hold of the 3rd gen starters without having them be transferred through two games. (Though, nowadays it's pretty easy to get one)

I hope they do remake them. Though Gen II was my favorite overall game in the series mostly due to the two regions, Hoenn is still my favorite single region.

I liked most of the new pokemon, having two teams was interesting, they didn't go overboard with Legendaries(cough B/W), you could have secret bases in areas that were not just brown, also Flygon.

Yeah, aside from that. Not too keen on the hip-and-now of the more recent Pokemon games. Last one I purchased was SoulSilver, because it's a remake of my favorite generation ever. It's also the last generation I played before I kind of fell out of Pokemon in general.

I assume that is the case with a lot of people, though.

Believe it or not, they released pre-order numbers for Black and White 1, they beat sales of Blue and Red in the old days.

I "fell out" of pokemon after the 2nd generation, but that was because I was 8 or 9 at the time and going through the "I'm too big for pokemon phase", then I saw the 4th generation and holy shit did it look cool. I was brought back in and haven't looked back since.

(My favorite generations are tied between 2nd and 4th)

Thinking of a remake seems so bizarre. It seems like just yesterday I bought Sapphire version with my allowance money. Now they're ready for a remake. Wow. Time has passed so quickly. I'd get it, assuming it wasn't for the 3DS, seeing as I don't have one. Gen 3 was fun, and it had a lot of cool stuff to offer. Bring it on, I say.

Eh call me when they release those games with the simplicity of Gen 1. The moment they started adding personalities and extra HMs, they lost me.

I guess for the reason why it still feel modern is due to the fact it was out for the GBA only while Red/ Blue/ Gold or Silver were for the Gameboy/ Gameboy Color (for one thing Ruby and Spphire had more colours compared to those two and everyone Pokemon had a chibi like sprites in the party and storage screen.

It's so weird thinking all of my childhood games are like 10 years old. Fuck, even company of heroes came out like 6 years ago.

OT: They'll make a Ruby/Sapphire remake in like a year because that's the schedule they work on. It'll give me another reason to get a 3DS.

I'd actually like to see RSE remakes seeing as how they were my first Pokemon games. In turns of changes to the formula I can only think of them maybe putting in areas where you encounter Gen. V Pokemon that you obviously wouldn't have in the originals, there's also the question of weather they re-tell the stories of the original games or have these games set years afterward. Also it'd be funny to see the Nostalgiatards who previously complained about Gen. III complain about the remakes.
