Hey, now I finally have some reason to get a 3DS. Still, I probably won't get these until after I at least beat the elite 4 in my White version, which won't happen until I complete my Pokedex in my Diamond version. Damn gaming priorities!

The 3D graphics look cool and the protagonists looks cool.
The starters look meh.
The legends look pretty decent (Hopefully no Dragons or Psychics). The Grass starter looks like something from Happy Tree friends
The Fire type fox has been done before and if they do make it fire/psychic or fire/fighting then I wont be impressed.
The Water type... actually looks pretty good. I just hope it doesn't become Water/Ground
My thoughts? Neat, I love Cel Shading, looks like there could be character customisation too which I'd also enjoy, and a lot more exploration, possibly some legend of zelda elements to the dungeons and a bit of platforming, which is certainly nice.TheEvilCheese said:So, the Nintendo Direct just unveiled the new Generation 6 Pokemon games. Look to be set in a new Europe-esque region (after Gen5's America). It's a 3DS game and... well... Look at it.
Simultaneous world wide release this October. Dropping the 2D battle system. Looks like a big deal for the series.

Thought? Opinions?
I'm cautiously optimistic, and to me it certainly looks more interesting than Gen 4 or 5 did at this stage.
[EDIT]
And here are the new legendaries, along with which game they're likely to be in based on colour and shape, but B/W did it the other way around so who knows?

And here's the full 10 minute Nintendo Direct video announcement, though there's not much to it except emphasizing the world wide simultaneous release.
I think Grass/Rock would work OK as a starter, it would be interesting and weak to Bug, Steel, Fighting and Ice. So probably not great metagame-wise but they are certainly some of the lesser used attacks in the main game.SkarKrow said:My thoughts? The starters look meh too me, I quite like the grass one and I hope it's not as poor as Snivy was. I also really hope they get creative with type combinations, I do not want another Fire-Fighting type gamefreak! Nor do I want Grass-Ground for my starter ): Grass-Rock could be nice though?
Maybe have secondary types for the starters work like they did in Gen 4 as a kind of check to the starter it was weak too... maybe not rock actually for grass grass is defensively poor as it is...
With them making everything 3-D I imagine that most of them could be returning pokemon since this would be the first time they get to go 3d but having enough new ones too for added freshness. and likely do future games that way using the remaining G1 or add alot of G2 etc. later.Spambot 3000 said:Are there actually any other new pokemon apart from the 3 starters and the two legendaries? Because that footage didn't show any other pokemon apart from them at all. Mind you, if they didn't introduce another 100 I'd be mighty pleased with that. I'm just wondering.
It's a Pokémon game. That's pretty much like saying there are Pokémon in the game.endtherapture said:But the graphics are still kinda outdated.
Diamond / Pearl came out way before HG/SS, and the touch screen menu wasn't used in black/white either because they were developed at the same time in parallel. B&W got some good features out of it and HG/SS got others, but one wasn't built upon the other as usually happens. Hopefully the new games will learn from it and at the very least have more options for the touch screen.Yellowfish said:I clicked on this thread thinking that OP is probably ranting about Nintendo's habit of releasing two near-identical Pokemon games at a time. But no, they actually went and named these two games X and Y! Wow. No, I'm not saying that it's a bad name choice. Wonder what names will the next Pokemon games have. Alpha and Omega? Ying and Yang? Left and Right? Anyways, I was never really that much into handhelds, and I just can't play the Pokemon games anymore. I mean, the interface in general and the use of the touchscreen in HG/SS was perfect. If you have no use for the touchscreen outside of battle, it's only logical to put the game menu there, so that the player can easily access all their stuff with just a single poke. It was really, really convenient, but no, they still replaced it with that watch thing in Diamond and Pearl. I know it may sound petty and stupid, but I literally stopped playing the Pokemon games and gave my DS to my cousin because the developers didn't stick with the kind of interface that I liked.

Yep, that's a much better thing to get obsessed over.
