Well duh, the vast majority of the women in this study are probably all the types that don't enjoy gaming on their own to any degree, or aren't interesting enough to their partner to become more deserving of attention than a game. The second one can happen quite often I've seen.

Try this study again with two additional groups: hetero couples where both have a fondness for video games to a similar degree and same-sex ones where, again, both partners have a particular fondness for gaming. Then you've got an effect group, a control group and one to see if the our-brains-are-more-alike-because-we're-the-same-gender thing also comes into play.

That might be interesting.

This happened to my friend once. His girlfriend was bitching at him for playing too much games. I got pissed and said "Maybe if you weren't such a selfish, hypocritical *****, he'd want to spend time with you."

Oh man, the look on her face, priceless.

And besides, you know what they say...

Most of my girlfriends have teased me over the fact I spend a lot of my time in front of some sort of screen. But as long as you put them before the gaming (as you should) then it's fine.

I would never break up with someone over games. Not playing games would be grounds for breaking up with someone. I don't think I could have a boyfriend who wasn't a gamer.

To be honest, I think it's more of a convenient excuse to cover up for deeper issues than it is an actual reason.

In fact, the only nice girls I've ever really met were ones who played video games as much as I do.
This. "You don't spend enough time with me!" is a cover for deeper issue's, like a lack of self confidence (on either side), a lack of chemistry, or a lack of long term appeal.

Thankfully both me and my boyfriend are gamers so it doesn't cause any problems.
However I do know a guy who uses his PC monitor as a screen for his xbox and he would rather play his xbox that talk to his girlfriend over msn which kinda hacks her off even more so that he openly admits this.

My wife is NOT a fan of my videogaming, something that she failed to mention before we got married. I think it mainly stems from her having this relative who is OBSESSED with gaming, like Korean level obsessed(ironically he's Chinese.) He'd skip school, lie, and steal in order to keep up his habit. Somehow she thinks that everyone who's into gaming is an addict waiting to happen, like anyone who buys a beer whenever they eat out is an alcoholic in training. She's gotten better (after numerous arguments later) but there's still that underlying level of resentment. Now I'm trying to get in as much gaming as I can with all these upcoming big releases and my first child due in March.

I'm in the UK, and here mentioning that you play games to girls tends to make them lose interest fast.

Haha my ex fiance claimed this was a big reason for her leaving me, despite the fact that I stopped playing practically all video games unles she wasn't home. It's funny how easily women will turn to something they don't understand or enjoy, such as video games, and use it as a basis to start drama. Thank God I have a girl now that plays them just as much... and is smokin hot at the same time. Very rare thing, indeed.
I'm fighting the temptation to destroy you out of jealousy.

As people have said before; biased statistics is worse than no statistics, and only slightly better than wrong statistics.

I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. Played games throughout school. Don't play them much now, as being in a relationship is a lot more satisfying.

WoW isn't better than a real person.

Not mentioned in the poll was my own anecdotal evidence which suggests that 97% of gamers prefer playing games over fighting with their significant others.
Is that from the same kind of sampling that tells us 76% of statistics are simply made up?

Oh man, new baby = zero time for anything else for the next two years. Though for the first six months your friends could probably use you as an extra for a zombie movie, since that's about how you'll look and feel!

And what about the large amount of texting and cell phone use? I've lost intrest in a girl because her only mode of communication seemed to be was texting (or text lingo when talking). It seems the new reason of break ups or fights will be involveing some form of technology.

1 in 5 women have ended their relationships because the partner plays too much videogames or surfs the net too much.
80% of the women polled said that their partners spends too much time playing games or on the internet.
70% claimed that "gaming addiction" was the cause of arguments between the couples.
Call Of Duty (with no mention as to which one, but I assume it's MW2) was cited as the game most likely to cause a fight.
72% of women said that their men spend too much time on the internet, but only 6% said it was enough to end the relationship.
I'd be very interested to see the male version of this.

Question: When the HELL did this become a trend?

Is it just me, or has this "girls-being-mad-at-their-boyfriends-for-playing-video-games-too-much" phenomenon sprung out of nowhere? I mean, girls have ALWAYS disliked boyfriends who played too many video games, it's just been getting soo much media attention lately, I don't know what to make of it. It's mind boggling! Are video-games becoming the new "female secretary"? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???
