Anybody who spends more than 10 hours a day playing computer games is a fucking loser. I can't spend more than 2 hours without taking a break before getting uncomfortable sitting down.

The guy died but nothing of value was lost.

I may play a lot of VG on my off days but I am always getting up to go to the washroom, get a drink, see what suicidal thing my cats are doing. I think this guy probably had underlying issues that he didn't have look at. I don't think anyone can sit in the same place for a solid 4+ hours without getting up for something.

It really depends: anything from 1 hour to 12 hours depending on the game, if I have stuff going on and the like.

OT: I think it's pretty stupid blaming a game/game console for something that happens in a player's body. It's down to the individual - games typically have many health and safety warnings on packaging and manuals.

Blaming the 360/Halo is beyond idiotic. The parents are more to blame for letting him play so long.

And sitting still for hours on end watching TV is~ Healthy? We shouldn't blame games for lack of fitness, I mean, there's nothing like the Wii, Kenect or Move for the TV. This is a load of crap and they probably know it, but hey, least they get publicity. -.-' I call for Extermanatus.

Because ever standing up or getting the slightest bit of physical activity is out of the question to gamers.

Seriously, walking around the house (and not to the kitchen to get some Doritos) every once in a while should be enough. Bloody hell, just walk around the block.

Most games tell you to take a break every once in a while. It's the player's own fault if they choose to go on a gaming binge. The consequences are upon them, not the game.

I usually have a habit of standing up while I play games and stretch/walk around whenever connecting to a multiplayer game or waiting for a level to load... Is that a good idea?

OT: Depends, really. 3-4 hours, possibly more if I'm having too much fun at times.

I play games for a long time, but I take breaks throughout the day and I always change my position. I might sit on my ass, then lay on my stomach.

Hey all, im a first time poster (but a lurker :p )

So I had written a big post regarding all this, and then I refreshed by brain and saw "The Sun newspaper".

However sad this is for all involved, please remember if you live in the UK you cant break wind as a celebrity without also being accused of *anything negative*

OT: "In 2005, a South Korean gamer died after playing online games for three days without taking a break."
THREE DAYS, not a comparison in my eyes, the Korean chap died roughly 6 years ago, and has there been anything since then regarding the same (or thereabouts) situations?

If i missed anything, my apologies.

IMHO the only good thing is "Page 3" in The Sun...and Mystic Meg! :p (lol sorry)

Don't worry it's not going to change anything for the industry, jumping to such rash conclusions isn't going to get us anywhere. If those sorts of assumptions were right, they would have banned the FPS after the Columbine Massacre.

Also, about 4+ hours a day on my days off, although this is split up between annoying chores like "cleaning" and "eating".
They tried to ban Doom claiming it allowed them to "plan the attacks". However, on that note, look up the Columbine RPG and beat it, then post here again.

1. I average only 99 minutes a day this year. Where is the less than two hour option in the poll?

2. DVTs are dangerous any time you remain sedentary for prolonged periods. I'm guessing its happened to at least one or two office workers as well.

I have had marathon 20 hour sessions with friends. But we always did get up to stretch, eat, piss, etc. I don't know how you wouldn't get up just from uneasiness.

Oh whoops, is there a way to change my vote? I didn't see "on your day off."

On average, about 4 hours a day, with a couple hours more of internet browsing. That said, it's the summer right now, so I'm not sure how going back to school will affect my gaming.

On days off, between 4 and, shit, 12. It can really get high, heh.

I love how everyone's saying as long as you exercise it'll be okay. No no it's not. Even if you were the fittest person in the world and you sat there for a long duration of time it will increase drastically the likelihood of getting a blood clot. You may not have gotten it but assuming just because you haven't gotten it is like assuming that you can't get struck by lightening when you walk around during a storm because you personally were not struck by lightening. Yes the chances are slim but sitting there motionless increases your risk of clotting regardless of your physical health. This guy just got unlucky.

Its the summer holidays, so about 8 hours a day just sitting there, doing fuck all. Its nowhere near as much when i'm in uni. But dude, chill with the whole "mandatory feature" thing, that's baseless fear mongering. Are their demands that all cars breathalyze you before you start driving every time a drunk driver hits someone? Course not. Games are no different.

(captcha: Dance to the radio, how appropriate)

Edit:

Although thinking about it, I wouldn't mind having that feature in my car. I should have used a better example

How come you never see "Teenager drives for 14 hours, crashes and dies," or, "Teenager runs marathon for 14 hours, has heart attack and dies?" It's not really news that drastically overusing a product or engaging in an activity for about four times the recommended duration will be bad for you. But no one wants to raise awareness for those examples because it's assumed that only videogamers are far too stupid to realize that heart palpation and shortness of breath are signs that you probably should stop what you're doing.

It's obvious that games aren't meant to played that long and saying that we need to make sure gamers know that playing for 16-hour stretches is bad, well, that's a lot like saying we need to raise awareness amongst homosexuals that gay sex for 16-hour stretches is bad; first off, it uses false, prejudiced data to make it out as though the action is somehow inherently more dangerous than any other action, which it isn't, and secondly it assumes that the target group is too stupid to get the concept of moderation. It's prejudicial to want to warn gamers to not overuse their entertainment method and then afterwards just assume that the people who use equally "dangerous" entertainments are smart enough to not need the warning. Gamers aren't stupid and any kind of society or organization of non-gamers to "help them" just reeks of the stereotype that gamers are stupid and irresponsible and fat, which is of course ridiculous.

On my off-days, I play four hours or so. It's really my only gaming time; I stare at a computer all day during the workday so my eyes are too tired for gaming after my normal 8-5. Also that figure is way too low now that I've started replaying Oblivion...

Usually I only play for about an hour or two a day if I play at all. The only reason I'll spend more time than that playing video games is if I'm playing online with friends. I do however stop every once in a while and go outside.

My guess is he didn't stop to masturbate. No, I'm serious. He probably didn't masturbate often enough.

But he obvious had some sort of condition. I watch those medical type shows where some people are that big they haven't moved in years.

I know they tried to ban it, but they didn't, and there stands my point.

Yeah, I've seen the Columbine RPG. I found it painfully distasteful whichever way I looked at it.
