There was a documentary on the BBC, which explains, the concept of the apocalypse and how many people believed that the world was going to end. It was called apocalypse now and then, it should be on youtube. It talked about how the world was going to end in. 1973, didn't happen, 2000, didn't happen and finally this so called doomsday in 2012 and guess what, it's not going to happen.

what bothers me is the people who , like the op said, would or have killed themselves "before it to not die in the predicted date".

even if you're a religious nut job, as far as i know, most religions are AGAINST suicide(except in special cases) , and imply a serious punishment for those that do.

so, how can you, a religious/superstitious person, afraid of going to hell, commit suicide?
when that is a sure-fire way of going to hell or even worse, remain as a ghost or other tortured spirit on earth?

wouldn't you rather, you know, wait for it to happen, and then at least be given a chance to go to heaven/whatever at the judgement moment?


as for me, i don't care, i always leave the option open, just in case, and if it happens, so be it,i'm not scared of smth like that.i'm more scared of an earthquake that might crush my house on me or a car crash or anything else that might happen any given moment of my life..

I always kind of thought these people were more a case of being predisposed towards religion/spiritualism but have nothing to fill the void. As our society becomes more secular and the established religions role diminish, you're going to have people that actually want something 'spiritual' to follow but have no direction. And of course we have deliberate scammers out there that understand this and exploit it. And these doomsday dates of course are a great cattle call to bring in these suckers.

Believe it or not i didn't see shit on this subject in the forums, and i was getting at people threatening to kill themselves and saying the government knows all about the end of the world and isn't telling anybody.
