You are an idiot. It's like I say one thing to explain myself against something you just said, and you completely ignore it. I feel like you don't read. Perhaps not even capable of reading. If I say, "Yes, anyone can call anything good and bad, but there are obviously bad opinions because some people won't put forth any valid reasoning," you'll just continue to say I'm angry that someone called a game that I liked bad. Even when I provided two simple examples of how I'd be fine with some giving a game (that, ohgosh, I really like) shit. I go on this huge exposition about how I can respect someone, even if they disagree with me, so long as there is actual reasoning involved. I created a thread on this. Almost everyone here has reiterated this point, or brought it back to me with a few changes.

And, somehow, you still don't get it.

You see, now this is a legitimate complaint. Now, dude I'm quoting, I have a question for you. What is your threshold on change? Like take the new kirby game for instance. Do you support that even though it throws out all the years of refinement and evolution from previous kirby games in favor of spastic mutation for the sake of just utter random change? Or do you have no limit on what kind of change is to be heralded as good?

I am. It looks like shit, and furthermore it shits on the entire kirby series by removing the two things it's known for. One of which pretty much every game, even the odd spinoffs like Canvas Curse, included and in every main game were modified, refined, evolved and otherwise changed somehow. The entire series never stopped growing. Epic Yarn just looks...dumb, you could replace kirby with anything and it'd be the same. But, I'll probably rent it so I could have a real opinion when it comes out.

I only ever played one Kirby game on the NES so I might not know how Kirby was from game to game.

What are the two things they removed in the new game?

Bobby Kotick and Project ten dollar. They aren't really part of the gaming community (Bobby Kotick especially) but i still consider them relevant.

The whining and the crying about every little thing, whether its from a game, movie, or life, from grown ass adults, who only think of themselves, and the moment something isn't tailored made to fit specifically to them, they throw a fit, and cry that everyone but them suck.

THAT'S what I hate about the gaming community. Gaming has to have the biggest bunch of cry babies of any hobby. You don't see fishermen coming back pissing and moaning because they caught little fish, when they wanted big fish. Or campers calling society a bunch of retards because starting a fire is proving difficult.

Spoiled brats. The amount of rage and tears thrown at some of this little shit is astounding.

Except (most) of the community on this site. You guys are pretty good for a gaming community.

off game (lolwut term) I hate people calling random games ripoffs of other games, just because they are in the same genre or they happen to be similar (which is rather complicated, considering the ammounts of space marines, for example, now adays), for example, there were these assholes once that Vanquish is a ripoff of Gears of Wars (wha- the fu-)

or worse, some guys yelling that Bayonetta was a ripoff of Devil May Cry (uh, same development team? maybe?)

and shit hit the fan on this one, somebody said, now get this, that the UAC Elite Marine Unit (aka, DoomGuy for the lesser acknowledged) was a ripoff of MASTER CHIEF

Oh, I'm a big kirby fan which I guess explains my opinion. But unless there's been some new info I missed, Epic Yarn removed inhaling and taking enemy powers in favor of that stupid whip that you just use to throw enemy attacks back at them.
Also Kirby's Adventure was pretty awesome. The remake of it on the GBA was pretty great too.

I think they had some footage were Kirby was a little flying saucer shooting electricity, but if they did take out the "powers through consumption" then that is indeed a big fat mistake. And as you said, it might then just aswell be a completely different character.

I still like the artstyle though.

My biggest issue is the gap between Casual Players and Hardcore Players. Especially the two extremists, i.e. Scrubs and the Stop-Having-Fun-Guys. We all need to learn to live and let live and if you don't like what or how the other person is playing...

I just hate the people of the gaming community. The game League of Legends by riot games has the worst community. Nobody knows how to work as a team because they flame eachother so everyone ragequits.

You're kidding right? The LoL community is brilliant compared to DotA. That's why I play LoL, because there aren't assholes who'll kick you for killing an enemy.

You have never had someone feed the enemy team then leave for not letting them get golem buff or go mid? I have met so many terrible players through that game.

I have never had the displeasure of meeting such people. But since I usually play with organised teams I don't get exposed to that.

I know community now has no real definition as people seem willing to apply it to anything. But I still don't like to think of a group of people playing x-box as a community.

The only side of gaming that I would consider having any kind of communal relationship is the modding-community. Since they work on projects together and share it with their peers.

Gamers on the other hand just play games.

I still think we are a little community though... especially on the Escapist and Youtube. We share tips, stories, our creations and reviews... and of course often internally flame and ridicule eachother, which is an unfortunate element that we could all do without.

I'd say the escapist is an internet community. We do all gather, discuss or contribute in some way. But it's not just gaming on here. We're a community that has gaming in common.

Gamers are not a community because there is no 1 area or communal ground, (physically or metaphorically) where we all unite and commune. Gamers are very separate. I suppose it could be considered a culture, perhaps more accurately a sub-culture.

Can we agree that we are a sub-culture of humans who play games? I think community sounds too nice as well as not fitting what we do. I mean a newcomer to any FPS or MMO may not find a kind world waiting for them due to the elitism that can surface in some gamers.

Also the trash talkers are far too common to make a happy community. If we want to use the term community we would have to tlak about one server just as when we tlak about the escapist we are talking about one website, not the internet.

The amount of elitism, and apparently if you don't have the same tastes or opinions as someone, you're delusional, stupid, and your interests are clearly inferior to that person. If you enjoy mainly multiplayer games, people think you have no taste in good storylines or can't comprehend it. If you enjoy mainly single-player games, people think you have no skill and can't play multiplayer game. If you like mainstream games, some would think you're an idiot for supporting the big, bad corporations and have no taste in the fine innovations of the indie games. If you like indie games (or more obscured games), you're an elitist that enjoys condescending on people who enjoy the more popular games. If you're a console gamer, you apparently have no skill and too poor to afford a decent PC. If you're a PC gamer, you apparently have too much time on your hands and couldn't use a controller if you tried. If you play competitively on multiplayer games (or have the "play-to-win" mindset), you're apparently some sort of "try-hard" and don't have fun at all and treat games like work. If you play "for fun", you're apparently a "scrub" and have no skill. If you enjoyed the older games of an established franchise, you're apparently blinded by nostalgia and hate the newer games for everything they stand for. if you enjoyed the newer games of an established franchise, you have no taste for the older mechanics. And it just goes on and on.

The first, for sure.

Going into it a bit more, it really, really annoys me when people decide that telling story through gameplay is the only way to tell good stories in a video game, and if your story is told mostly through cutscenes, the game's storytelling, and even the story itself, sucks. But that's absolutely stupid. Metal Gear Solid, for instance, tells a good story: a bit preachy and long-winded, but really, really good. Maybe if it told more story through gameplay and wasn't halfway comprised of cutscenes, the actual telling would be better, but as it is the story is still really, really good. Same goes for Final Fantasy XIII (which, JRPG haters, was the first in the series to actually be completely devoid of interactive storytelling techniques); little interactivity in the storytelling, but still a really, really good story.

Would it be nice for all games to take advantage of the medium's unique storytelling capabilities? Absolutely! But just because a game doesn't do that doesn't mean the story, or the way it's told, sucks.

So true, while it would be nice for more stories to be told through gameplay, somethings can't and its always nice to have cutscenes imo.
