I've decided that I would get myself a pocketwatch for my birthday, seeing as how I love keeping stuff in my pockets and hate having things on my wrist.

I've narrowed it down to two models...

Charles-Hubert, Paris Mechanical Pocket Watch

This one I think will get the majority of votes, but the excessive shininess doesn't really appeal to me.

"All that glitters is not gold", etc. etc.

Colibri Gunmetal Pocket watch

I really like this one because of the matte black finish, and it's also cheaper (even though the cost doesn't concern me).

I'm aware it's not available, but I already had the Amazon page bookmarked.

Oh yeah, the second one definitely.

I want one of those now, like really really badly!

Oh my, I'll get one for my birthday too.

The first one.
I dunno, really. The look appeals to me. I simply love it when I can see the internal workings of something, while it remains fully functional.

That first watch is absolutely gorgeous, i've been considering getting myself one, I was always reluctant because it used to be reserved only for snooty people who go to Eton and Sherlok Holmes, but more and more it looks like anything goes.

And I love it, there is such a sophistication associated with a pocket watch, and that silver one is a particularly fine example.

I prefer the first one. Although the front is very plain, I guess you could always have something engraved on it?

As far as pocket watches go, the first one is beyond sexy.

Nice and simple, but classy, and I love the fact you can see the workings too!

I'd love to have a pocket watch with the second one's case and the first one's clock face. I love the matte black look, but I also love the gears. :/

Definitely the first one.

The second one is more modern, but a having pocket watch isn't about looking modern. It's about looking sophisticated. You're not just checking the time; you're taking a brief moment to reacquaint yourself with the day's passing.

The first one exudes that sort of gentleman vibe. The second one... not so much.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but alas I couldn't find a model like that.

Wow, interesting topic for a VS. thread. I'm impressed.

I'd go with the first one, personally. I like seeing the inner workings of my mechanical gadgets.
It was relevant to my interests and a fairly unique topic, which are sadly few and far between nowadays.

Out of those two, the first. But those two are brand new, right? Have you considered getting a really old one at a second hand store or off ebay? Some of them are pretty awesome and it's always nice owning something with a bit of history.

A pocketwatch? Now that is style! I might just have to copy you....

The first one is a lot better, but it would look a lot better in gold, if available.

Hmm, I'd say the first one. However, I would advice you that if you can, try find some older pocketwatch, my own is an oldie back from.. Uh.. I think it's the 70's or so.. Or before.. Anyway! They got more charm than the new ones, and overall just look better. Just my 2 cent.

It is, but it looked really tacky.

I'm more of a black/grey/white guy myself.

Definitely the first one, because (regardless of all it's shiny appearance and cool exposed mechanisms) compared to the other watch, it's face is a lot easier to read, the hours and minutes are more clearly defined.

I could quickly glance at it and easily tell the time, but the other watch I'd have to focus more, locate the slightly bigger hour mark and count every minute mark.

Maybe it's a bad picture and the real face has more clearly defined hour marks, but I wouldn't get the second one because it seems more difficult to tell the time with, in comparison.

However, if the faces were swapped then I'd get the second watch, despite also preferring the body and mechanisms of the first.

The first one. I like the look of all the mechanical parts being shown, and I just prefer lighter colors over darker ones.

I'm leaning towards 2, but I really like the face of the first one. I also love how on the Amazon page "Customers who bought this item also bought" Doctor Who 5th series.
