Just been reading CVG and it seems that Microsoft will be bringing ads to Xbox live.

(source: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=218613 )

Speculation suggests that it will be via dashboard, so I'd imagine it won't affect the gaming in any way.

Perhaps Microsoft would like to cut their live membership prices in light of this new revenue, as this advertising will be aimed at the paying players.

Anyone else have an opinion?

I would not want it. Evan if you can skip them it just adds annoyance to it having to skip it. I mean $50 a year is not really that bad.

Therese been ads on LIVE already.

Hell, they have Doritos, Yaris, Burger King games. There basically an interactive ad.

If it's only on the dashboard, then I don't mind. Especially since I don't spend much time on the dashboard anyway, it wastes valuable gaming time.

I'm happy enough paying £40 a year, so no I don't want to see ads cluttering everything up.
I'd much rather pay than see ads.

Oh no. God no. Maybe... maybe it'll only be an USA thing. (Then we here will actually get an advantage from living in Europe for once, as opposed to missing out on all the cool stuff, as normally happens.)

That's what I thought too, perhaps this new advertising will be more intensive?

I agree, the price isn't bad at all, it's what, 9p (or the equivalent) a day?

It would be more of the principle of it that bothers me. Why should we be paying for this when they could potentially make a killing from the advertising on it anyway? PSN (whilst arguably being inferior) has always been free, and I don't remember much advertising beyond their games, which is fair play if you ask me.

If these Ads are because of the proposed TV on demand service being free, then yes, that is the only way to justify it.

Besides, we have enough adverts with the sponsored games and product placement anyway.

Won't bother me in the least. I mean, how long really are people on the dashboard? I'm there just to swap between profiles then onto my game.

I don't see why people hate ads so much. They are a helpful way to learn about new products :)

For example: yesterday i saw the advert for roundtrees randoms and today i actually bought some and they were nice :)

Case and point ads = good

Sadly, it won't. It would be nice if they did the Anarchy Online type deal, where the paying customers get no ads and the free to play guys do.

Ads=meh in my opinion. Unless they massively intrude on a game/interface, I just tend to ignore them.

It just seems like 50 bucks a year should get you ad free entertainment.

Do ads really detract from the entertainment that much? I mean you aren't forced to look at them....or are you?
