No one can deny advetizements do help to sell the product. You might not even realize it yourself but all of our shopping habits are being controlled by the media. Take a look in your bag after doing groceries and think about it. Youll probably find alot of (popular) products that have advertizements on at least one medium. Offcourse, you dont always have much of a choice, alot of people prefer coca cola over other brand for example, because it just tastes better. So I dont feel bad about it, and neither should you. Theres alot of research going into commercials, more than "lets make this commercial really funny so people will remember it". Did you know that shelves in supermarkets are designed to have the most popular (read: expensive) products on eye height? Its unbelievable, somewhere in your country theres people thinking over this kind of stuff!

I would have answerred "if Billy Conolly tells me to" but sadly that was not an option.

I only buy products that appear in ads if I had a prior interrest in purchasing that product.

Ads only help me buy something when it's telling me about a new product. Advertising stuff that's been around for a while has always seemed pointless to me.

I like ads because sometimes they're funny, have an interesting story or are just really well done. But when they start milking said ad and making it into multiple ones, then I start hating them! (Happiness Factory and orange's two little white bean bags, I'm looking at you)

Trivia moment: The director of the Orange commercial with those two annoying bean bags is the late (unfortunately) uncle of a good friend of mine, and that ad was made in cooperative of the Romanian advertisment company Propaganda and an animation studio from London. /trivia

I like to reward good ads and punish bad. This means I will never be able to buy car insurance but I've bought Tabasco sauce and kebab flavour pot noodles, which I never would have tried otherwise.

I just flip the channels waiting for a "BILLY MAYS HERE!!!" commercial or a "VINCE FROM (insert product here)!!!!!!"

I don't ever want to buy those products, but it's so funny to watch those guys.

I have actually never watched a commercial, and then gone out and bought that product. But who knows, I've seen over a billion commercials.

BARRY SCOTT HERE! TRY NEW CILIT BANG!
Anyway ads like that are the most annoying thing on t.v.

If a ad doesn't need to shout to get it's point across I might consider it's product if it's useful.

I stated once before that ads actually make me hate the product they're advertising, and I was told I didn't know what I was talking about, and how I was really encouraged to buy products by them.

I guess I don't know my brain as well as a few strangers.

But I'll say again: No. I haven't bought anything advertised on the TV, especially. As a matter of fact, I make it a point to never buy a product with an ad that pisses me off.
Aye, I find myself less inclined to buy a product with irritating advertising, and there's a whole lot of advertising that annoys me.

I especially make a point to never, ever purchase a product that uses a monkey, a talking animal, or a baby in any form of advertising.
I feel much the same way. If I really like the ad I'll but what its selling because...

Well I liked the ad.

On the other hand if a ad annoys me I won't buy the product even if I need it.

Gotta love the banner ads with a button that says "click here". What? I can't click further to the left?

Other than that, i acknowledge that ads sponsor whatever it is that i'm consuming, so it doesn't bother me that much. Unless it's spreading stereotypes and prejudices or something.

I wont really buy a product for it's ads, however, I don't shop at places because of thier ads. For instance, McDonalds.... Horrible abominations, and if I had not worked at and have a good friend who manages a Burger King, I'd refrain from them. Let's see... Wal*Mart, though I wouldn't shop there anyways since I worked there and...Err... Let us not start that level of ranting... Yeah... They want my monies, then they need to not be stupid. And the radio commercials! Do they need to repeat the number three times? Bad enough they play the same/simular ad so many times... Argh, stupid people make me annoyed, but you work in customer service at retail for so long, and let us see how you like them.

Like others have said, ads don't make me want to buy a product, but they do make me aware of a product which I may then buy if I see good reviews of it. I put it to you all that this is the purpose of ads targeted at my demographic.

Furthermore, I say that those of you who claim ad executives are out of touch with society by creating offensive adverts don't realise that you aren't the target audience; the execs are doing just fine, they simply don't care about your money.

That is a math term.
And because of the people it describes, I only hate math more.
Whoa there! If we're bringing maths into this then the term should be highest common factor. We use lowest common factor because the "lowest" introduces a pejorative implication but it doesn't make sense from a mathematical perspective.

I sometimes enjoy watching ads simply because they never affect me, watching the little people dance trying to sell me car insurance, over-priced shoes and cleaning products is fun, untill I realise I've been wasting my time watching ads and then I have to go iron my hands.

Semi discrete add's are awesome. They make whatever media they're presented in affordable (cause they pay the tv-station/game company/etc so you don't have to pay twice as much for the channel/game/etc)

Though i hate it when theres a 5 min commercial break every fucking 15 minutes durring a tv show.

But adds like those on most web-pages are cool if you ask me. They're easy to ignore and they pay for the site so i don't have to.
