I think that when I die, my brain cells will lose all contact and purpose, my consciousness will float away as if it has never existed, and in time no one will be left to remember me. This is the sad truth.

One can always hope, though. Then again, if there is afterlife but you can't remember your time on earth, is it really an afterlife? The only way afterlife would exist is by having your consciousness, including all memories, relocated to a higher plane of existance. Which is highly unlikely, although it would be pretty awesome.

No. Don't do religion threads. Ever.
OT: I'll keep my belief to myself. I don't feel like arguing about what I FUCKING BELIEVE.

1. This isn't about religion. It's about if you believe if your consciousness perishes when you die or wether it lives on somehow. If you happen to be religious; matter settled.
2. Sure, go ahead. I am not forcing you to do anything.

Yeah, cause I'm a Christian, so I believe that when I die, my soul will go up to heaven, I'll see my loved ones, etc. etc.

I'm just hoping we all get our own little version of heaven. I've always pictured a house for everyone, the size they want it to be, and it has whatever they want inside it. There would be some awesome COD4 tournaments up there, if it were up to me.

It ties in heavily enough with religion that it counts as a religious thread.

I believe that there's something more to our conciousness than just a bunch of brain cells. Otherwise I'd just be a machine. There's more to it than that. So yes, I believe that there is something after death. When we die, that supernatural part of us rises to a new world. And I'm not talking about clouds and meeting a tall, white, bearded man. It's more like nirvana and becoming a part of the cosmos, except our conciousness still exists and we don't get separated into loneliness. But I still believe in a higher power. So I guess I'm a deist.

EDIT: When I think about it, my belief seems more like a combination of Final Fantasy X and Anansi Boys, if you get what I mean.

And I also believe that life and afterlife are on two diametrically opposed levels. When I die, I will not be judged by my mistakes of the past. "Every day is a learning process", and death is just another day. To quote George Carlin: "I believe in a greater good, the big electron, *hovering sound*. It doesn't judge, it doesn't punish, it just is."

You should tread lightly about these kinds of questions, I'm not accusing you of anything, but just so you know. I see you're relatively new, so it's no big deal... For me, anyway.

And to answer your thread; no, I do not believe there is anything beyond my passing.

I hope to the almighty power that governs this world that there is an afterlife. Cause I am making far too many poor descisions with this life to not get a second chance

"DON'T DO IT!" Excuse me? Fuck you. Cry baby. I'll decide what I do or don't do. Nobody demanded your beliefs so shove that attitude back up your ass. Don't wanna respond? You don't have to. *backhands your STUPID beliefs in the face*

I don't know what to think and we'll all find out when we're dead. Certainly nothing supports an afterlife or religion scientifically.

Any other response is bullshit because you've never been dead. If you exist and are talking to me you are not and have never been dead so put a sock in it. I see no reason to fear death because it cannot be escaped.

Hopefully heaven is a heavy metal concert with an infinite supply of alcohol and weed, and your ears never ring and you never lose your hearing.

can I come to your cod4 tourney's?
Yes. All are welcome to Jedoro's Heavenly COD4 Tourney. We're working on getting Earth networked, for those of us who are still among the living.

Thanks. I always imagined it like that, since I was a kid, and the idea just stuck.

Sounds like a good idea for a thread: "Your Heaven/Paradise"

Death = brain ultimately losing the needed fuel to function (oxygen, bioelectrical energy etc.) When the brain stops functioning unconsciousness is the only result. Therefore, death will most likely be a state of permanent unconsciousness.

But it would be nice if there was something else waiting after death. I'd even settle for going to the christian hell, because... Well, at least it would be some sort of continuation than just a permanent end to everything.

I think the goal of most athiests is just not to die.

I'm pretty sure many scientists dealing with biology are looking for actual ways to retard or halt aging.

Overall I see no evidence for an afterlife nor does it make any sense. Likewise if I was creating my own afterlife it would end up just looking like my real life anyways so why exactly do I need to go through the process of dying just to be back where I am in the first place?

I've always felt religion or the concept of an afterlife made a pretty big assumption that the person in question doesn't love their current life.

I think the universe is bonerific, the earth is utterly fascinating, all the creatures I can read about or research enthrall me. To lose this for something utterly artificial is completely flacid to me.

Likewise attributing the universe to a creator makes it equally artificial in my eyes which is such a cold thing to do to something amazing.

Anyways...a few tangents in there...my bad.

Hmm am not to sure what my vison of the afterlife is. I have always pictured it being what you enjoy doing most in real life. So for example I enjoy games, so my idea of heaven is playing games for the rest of time.

However if it turns out I wasn't good enough to earn this reward, then I will spend the rest of my time doing what I hate most, which is quite a lot of things.

Urgh... Religion threads. Take my advice and try not to make them. It gets folks all worked up.

And no, I do not believe in afterlife. It's a great, fantastic concept, but I can't accept it.

I am sorry if I offend anyone, but aren't we supposed to be able to just talk about stuff like this?
