Poll: AIDS: population control?

What you're about to read (if you have the attention span) is a viewpoint that I do not share. I mean, I thought of it, but I don't believe it; while not impossible, it is highly improbable, and I'm just trying to stir discussion. Poll included if you don't have time to spit out some words.

First, let's look at it; AIDS is a deviously evil disease. Symptoms don't appear for years after you get infected, leaving you to have sexual relations with anyone who doesn't suspect you of having AIDS and doesn't ask you to get tested. It takes a long time to become lethal, but once it is, nothing short of a complete bone marrow transplant can save you. In the end, you die. If you have children, they'll die. Whoever you've had sexual contact with will die.

Now, in the developed world, AIDS isn't as prevalent among the general populace, given increased awareness, condom usage, and preventive measures taken. However, in third-world countries, where rape and unsafe sex are as common as air molecules, it spreads like wildfire. Given the high birth rate in said countries, entire generations are being born only to die.

What if the government instilled this plan as an effort to cut down population? As I said, the people affected most are the uneducated, 'useless' ones in Africa and other impoverished locales. The rich upper class are much less likely to get the virus, which is perfect, considering they are the ruling caste. This way, the leadership of the world continues to live on, while the poor eventually all die out.

Sounds ridiculous, dun' it? Whatever, let's just talk possibilities and what the implications would be. Oh, and yes, I know that AIDS originated from chimps.

If it came from chimps then how did humans get it? Did some guys and girls get bored one day and decide to have intimate relations with some chimps?

Anyway I don't believe in that theory but if it is true (doubt it) then it is doing a horrible job. In third world countries it is doing a wonderful job of killing people but isn't doing so great elsewhere.

While I don't think this is happening I do find the fact that "Ya never really know..." to be unsettling...

I wouldn't say a horrible job; like I said, third world civilians would be viewed as expendable. You don't need them, except maybe for cheap labour. Western civilians, on the other hand, tend to be much more skilled.

The jump from chimps involved dull knive, wounds on the hand, and a monkey carcass. At least that's the most likely cause.

I really doubt its an orchestrated conspiracy. The fact that a disease spreads in a place with poor health care and bad sanitation is no surprise. Swine flu, on the other hand... /sarcasm

Thank you for that most likely true explanation. I like my "some people screwed some chimps" explanation more though.

Some tribes in Africa eat monkeys.

As for the conspiracy... why the fuck would any government kill their own people? I can understand population limits like what they're doing in China, but no government would release a virus that we're currently unable to eradicate.

It's population control in the government's eyes, but that's because they are making money off of the people that die. Even when you die, you still get taxed. T_T

EDIT: Just remembered this from a thread a few days ago, even if it is, we now have an idea for a cure, so it doesn't matter. AIDs will go the way of the Black Death and be gone.
That is, unless the prices for that cure are too fucking high..

Um, Ok.
It's possible.
But it's not true.
If the government wanted to control the population, there would be ways to do it than aids.

Like? Ideas are always fun.
Eh, putting something in a flu vaccine that makes you sterile.
Sounds like an easy way to cut off on the worlds population.

Human controlled? No. Thats War.

Nature controlled? ...I would be open to suggestion, Mother Nature does have ways of killing off those harmful to the natural order. And as cold as it sounds we're in desperate need of a population decrease. Even though our birth rates have finally begun to descrease in recent years. I would say alot of irregularities are population control, homosexuality for example? I think it's helped the situation of overpopulation now we're fractionally more open about it.

But fact is all these things develop from genetics, disease, all part of nature. And I would say it's very possible old mama earth drives things like that.

Ah. Remember, you'd have to distribute your fertility killer. How do you imagine you can force vaccinations on hundreds of thousands of people?
