Alien resurrection...

...

...

...I didn't think you would buy that. The original handled the horror aspect best.

See, I don't think it has any horror elements at all. It's just a brilliant actioner with a couple of scary looking monsters. It doesn't try to scare at all.

Wait, Alien was a horror film? I don't remember being scared at all... (I'll be re-watching it soon though).

But, unfortunately, I haven't seen Aliens yet, so, by default, Alien wins my vote.
Wait, wait, wait... you're the mod for the User Reviews section and you haven't seen Aliens?! Whoa... never saw that coming...

OT: I don't really like one over the other. Mind you, I didn't find Alien all that scary, and both had some very snappy one liners: 'Hey Vasquez, has anyone ever mistaken you for a man?' etc.

If I had to choose, then Alien, 'cos I spend so much of Aliens wishing violent things to happen to Burke.

I really liked Aliens, but I can't really offer a fair opinion on this as I've only seen about half of the movie. I liked how the second one built so much on the life cycle of an already interesting animal.

I will do.

I'll be watching all 4 Alien films, then all 3 Predator films, and then the 2 Alien vs. Predator films, all in a row. =D
A word of warning, the fourth Alien movie is pretty bad, and the second AvP movie is fucking awful.

And don't believe any rumors you may hear about them making any Alien movies after the first two :)
Alien 3 (Special Edition) is fantastic. I just wish they'd had the CGI tech and budget to finish the special effects, not to mention the guts to keep the "disturbing" scenes in the theatrical release. Regardless, the film is terribly underrated.

Resurrection, however... that was just a dumb mish-mash of elements from the previous three films, and what little originality existed within its production went to waste. Not to mention the ridiculous cast, which made the whole thing seem more like a parody than an actual Alien film.

There are likely bigger titles that I haven't seen that would surprise you more.

*cough*Star Wars*cough*

And I haven't seen Aliens yet, because I put off watching that entire series until I could see all of the Alien, Predator and Alien vs. Predator movies all in a row.

I have that chance now, so in the next couple of weeks, I'll probably start that series.

I don't understand how people can consider AvP2 to be worse than the first crossover film.

But maybe it's just because of the wish fulfillment. I've always wanted Xenomorphs in an actual human city. Plus, the Predalien Queen was the first bit of proper originality the series has seen since Alien 3.

Alien. Having one creature stalking the crew of a spacecraft is creepier, and I in my opinion makes it more engaging. Aliens is a superb action piece, but my personal fave goes to Alien.

If I may suggest you avoid the cinematic cancer that is Alien Resurrection... it's not only the worst movie in the series, it's one of the worst movies ever made. And I've seen my fair share of cinematic crud. But that movie is on a whole new level of "bad"...

Skip it. Please. I'll never be able to un-see it, but I might avoid someone making the same mistake I did.

OT: That is one fucking cruel choice you make me take. I'll probably go with the original, but only by the slimmest of margins.

I enjoy reviewing really bad movies. And I can't just watch/review all of the rest of them and skip one of the films. That would just look bad!

If it's the original trilogy then I'd invent something that let me put my hand through my monitor, out your's and slap you upside the head! If it's the prequel trilogy, then I'd shrug. Are you really a nerd/geek? Or are you a normal person secretly here doing research on us?!

... I'm struggling not to go mad here, but please don't watch them all. Though, having said that, I suppose you have to watch them to realise how crappy some of them are. Of those nine films, only three of them are any good. The remainder are either 'rubbish beyond belief', or outright 'denied'. Enjoy your day... well, some of it!

Aliens was a good sequel, but there were just too many things about it that bugged me.

- First and foremost, the Aliens were made less alien by linking their nature to that of bees and ants. In the first movie the Alien was just that; Alien. You didn't know what it was, where it came from, or what it wanted. All the alien beings from Alien truly felt like they came from a vastly different universe then ours, and most of that is lost in the sequel.

- I don't care how much of a corporate sleazeball you are, you're not going to fuck over your fellow man just for "a Goddamn percentage" when you find yourself in a situation where you're facing an unstoppable alien force that's out to murder you. It felt like a stupidly forced anti-corporate message.
Alien also had an anti-corporate message, but it made sense there because the traitor in question was an android who was not only simply following his program, but who also developed an admiration for the alien.

- That little girl was mostly an annoying little twit, mostly.

Alien will always be the better movie for me.

The predalien queen was completely ridiculous, it made no sense. If you want originality in a series like Alien, do it with the plot and the human characters, don't fuck with an established life cycle. It makes no sense to have an Alien hive spew out some mutated freak every time they make a new movie. And yeah, they might have introduced it in a plausible way, but why the hell did it reproduce through its tongue?

Aside fro this, I also thought the human characters were more interesting in the first one, and even the predators were better. They weren't just robotic killing machines that only lived as long as the plot required as with the second crossover, they were unblooded, inexperienced warriors who were in over their heads almost as badly as the humans.

*hrk* Well, here's hoping you've had either a lot of caffeine or sugar... or both. 'Cos you're hands/typing fingers are going to be in for a hell of a lot of exercise (uh... euphemism not intended)... or not, as the case may be.

I'm... I don't know. Sure, let's say that I'm spying on you...

Aliens all the way. Don't get me wrong Alien is dark, it scared the shit out of me when I was a kid but Aliens is just awesome as an action film.

I mean Apone. I don't know if any films before Aliens had the badass black Sergeant but to me whenever I play Halo or any other game/film with a guy like him in I always think of Apone. "Listen up Sweethearts" *chomping on big ass cigar*

The dropship from Starcraft even took lines straight from the film. "In the pipe, 5 by 5" "Hang on we're in for some chop". Hell, the portrait for the dropship is basically Cpl. Dietrich.

Then we come to Vasquez, Hicks and Hudson. I'd maybe add Drake aswell for his sheer meathead badassery. The chemistry between them all feels great and I at least get really invested each time I watch it. Even after repeated viewings the action scenes along with the score keep the adrenaline flowing.

To me, the xenomorph made Alien a great film, the marines made Aliens a great film.

I should add I also like Alien 3 and 4. 4 was another ok action flick with Ron Perlman and I like pretty much anything he's in.

The AvP films can go to hell and never see the light of day again though as far as I'm concerned. They fucked up two great 80's franchises.

I had heard/read rumours on Imdb a while back that either Scott or Cameron were working on an Untitled Alien project for release in 2012, supposedly a prequel to Alien. As of now on Imdb I can only find a Confidential Alien Project, set for 2012 but with no information due to it being in development. Who knows, Xenomorphs vs Navi?

Edit: Ok after a bit more searching the film is called Prometheus, which initially started out as a prequel but it's currently under debate whether it will still be one or become an original story. One of the actors has said both Space Jokeys and Aliens will appear but Ridley Scott has said otherwise. Something about Scott wanting it to be R rated but the studio was unwilling to invest so much money on something that wasn't PG-13 (Bloody studios and their PG-13's!). So who knows. Supposed to come out June next year. Can you tell I'm a bit of a fanboy?

The first Alien was dreadfully predictable. I knew who was going to die in the exact scene they died in, cheap scare tactics. In fact if it wasn't for the chest burster sequence, no one would remember it. Not a bad horror movie by any means, but it's only a horror movie. And horror movies even if they succeed in unnerving me are limited in their entertainment value. I personally find it quite dull.

Aliens however, was fantastic and engaging. Good performances and storytelling. The action scenes were well shot. I have much less to say about it because maybe there is less substance there. But I'd rather watch it again than it's predecessor.

Alien 3 and Resurrection were so unnecessary. Although Ron Pearlman is a good add to anything.

Both awesome but Aliens is more memorable. There are similar films to Alien which do it better, namely Event Horizon and Sunshine, but Aliens is in a league of its own. "They mostly come out at night............... mostly"

Tough call, but I think I'll go with Aliens because it gave us the M41A Pulse Rifle.
