Kind of. Halo is beating CoD with, VERY predictably, Half Life beating everyone. Halo 1 and 2 came out on PC, and Halo 1 was really the only Halo I liked (Played 3, Reach and ODST at a friends).9thRequiem said:EDIT : Probably biased of me to point this out, but bear in mind the poll is going to be skewed on a population front; Halo is Xbox-specific, the other two are all platforms; the number of people able to play one is less than those able to play the others.
Combat Evolved > HL1 > CoD4:MW1 > HL2 > Halo2 > Other call of duties, since I don't play ww2 games, no, not even metro 2033 > Other Halos since they're obvious spin offs > other half lifes (including Orange box episode 2) since they were just overdramatised copies, with little or nothing to add to the story. I mean heck, the Portal *SPOILER WARNING* birds were a better addon to the game than an obvious drawn out death. Seriously JEEZ.Kieran Villoth said:Story goes: I was eating Christmas dinner, talking about video games with my cousins (both of whom watch videos on the Escapist regularly, but have not made accounts), and brought up the gift I gave them each last year (copies of the Orange Box). They both enjoyed Portal a lot, didn't try TF2, and hated Half Life. I personally herald Half Life as the best single player FPS, with each of them advocating Halo or CoD for that position. We got to talking about the Escapist later, and they were convinced that this community would agree that either CoD or Halo is superior to Half Life. We've bet 25 bucks on the matter, so I'm gonna ask you all now: CoD, Halo, or Half Life?
NOTE: I'm not asking which is 'TEH BEST GAME EVAH', only which you consider superior based on whatever standards you prefer to use.
Most definitely, though I believe it is more because the people who vote for Valve titles actually enjoy what they offer more than the others. Half Life is a more old school game. No one telling exactly where to go, no waypoints to tell you where things are, no regenerating health (Unless next to those health station things from memory). It was different to the modern Halos and CoD where you are given that objective marker or some NPC next to you tells you to head here and only one door opens that will take you there. You have regenerating health and everything will kill you quickly.Singularly Datarific said:With all due respect, The Escapist is hardly an unbiased source for such a preference.
It is sort of the internet haven for all lovers of valve, so expect an overwhelming majority of Half-Life.
Really though, it doesn't matter how much of an argument you put out, people stick with what they argue. It doesn't really matter about what's true, arguments are about who's right and who's wrong, and everyone argues what they consider "right".
TL;DR
Arguments are instant stalemates, it's not gonna help no matter how much support you get.
Hold on a second, halo fails because of it's blank slate main character... compared to Gordon Freeman?The_root_of_all_evil said:HALO fails because of its bloom and "blank slate" main character.
