I don't think a lot of americans have a "disillusion". It's just bad stereotyping, at least i hope so.
But WW2 was a very complicated time. As a person who lives in a country that was occupied by the Soviets, the Germans, and then the soviets again , i know that both sides were "not good". The memory of both still lingers, and what pisses me off the most is that a lot of Russian people think that they saved our country from the Germans. Yes, they made the Germans leave, but they were just another country that took control of us. Some see their country truly as a hero that saved us. But that's what the schools there teach, i guess. Just another point of view.
Ah, but what point is it in telling this in an internet forum? No point at all...
