Americans > British on Drama.
Americans < British on Comedy.

Also, hopefully this thread doesn't turn into a shit-storm of UK vs USA where people think they know anything on the inner workings of there country.

All I'm saying is I'm so patriotic that I would never even
think of watching another country's TV. That way I know American TV is the best.
I apologize if me saying so is idiotic, but this is sarcasm, right?

the new series of doctor who starring Matt Smith, one of the worst actors I?ve ever seen who is only outshined in terms of shitness by his mono-faced sidekick (also hot doesn?t equal a good actor Megan Fox is an example of this), I only watched Victory of the Daleks and those one?s with them angel?s in them but...they were an abomination.
Do you mean by this that you love David Tennant and want to have his babies so noone can ever replace the gaping hole in your heart for him, even though the new doctor/series is pretty funny and mature?
On the contrary, I found the new series was lacking good humour of any kind. Sure, the fish custard was chuckle worthy at first, but I have yet to find any genuinely funny lines at all. And mature doesn't make a series inherently good.

Also, I wouldn't mind having Tennant's babies, and I doubt I'm the only one :p

I much, much prefer British comedies to American. For the majority of American comedies I just sit there and facepalm the entire way through. Especially the sitcoms. That being said, there are exceptions.

You have no right to say Matt Smith is the worst actor ever after one episode.

Beacause of this, I'm not answering the question.

Code:
No Versus threads here. Read the rules. As no versus threads are here, I can pick both.
HURR DURR HURR
you saw that episode right??? it was horrible,he was horrible it was a shambles.
Yeah, that episode was crap, but the rest of the series has been pretty good. Besides, it's not like pervious Doctor Who series have been unblemished spectacles of awesome. Just look at "Love and Monsters" for proof.

On topic: I like a bit of both. I like Doctor Who and QI, but I also like Scrubs and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It's not like one country produces gold standard stuff while the other produces crap. There's an equal amount of terrible on both sides of the pond.

Well, seeing as America didn't watch Arrested Development, one of two American TV shows I counted among my favourites, but still finances Two And A Half Men season after season, we know a large bit of America is either really stupid, or leaves Two And A Half Men on when they go out to trick burglars.

Meanwhile, we have/had Spaced, The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show, The Office, Extras, Black Books, The IT Crowd, Father Ted, Nevermind The Buzzcocks, Mock The Week, Would I Lie To You?, That Mitchell And Webb Look, Nathan Barley, Misfits, Skins, The Inbetweeners, QI, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, The Young Ones..

Then again, you still have 30 Rock, so there's some hope right?

British TV Gems: Doctor Who, Skins, QI, The Inbetweeners, Mock the Week, Have I Got News For You, New Tricks, Hustle, Luther

American TV Gems: Scrubs, The Simpsons, The Big Bang Theory, House (although the best character is played by a Brit)

I am British but it's not so much patriotism that makes me likes British TV more, but more availability of said programmes.

The only thing I watch is cartoons and that's one thing American television cannot be beat at. Sorry Britain.

Aside from that, I don't really watch TV, so it makes no difference who is better because I won't see it.

I prefer American, by far. The Shield, BREAKING BAD, Sons of Anarchy, Justified (just started, it's growing on me), Lost, Futurama, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, House, Scrubs, South Park...

I actually could go on. I think people who say TV is shit just aren't trying hard enough to find the gems out there, of which there are plenty. Just don't be afraid to try new things, hell, I just started watching Lost (on Hulu) a week ago, and I really don't know why I never watched it before.

The only two British shows I've liked were Spaced and Dr. Who. That's it, and I do watch a lot of TV. I stand by saying that Breaking Bad and Arrested Development are/were the best at what they do/did.

Yeah, British cartoons are almost entirely for children. It's not a big market in the UK - most of the children's TV shows are real.

We Americans have Arrested Development. True, we didn't appreciate it, but I feel we should win based on just having it.

Wow Flimsii, you are quick to make judgements, I don't think you have the right to call Matt Smith ''The shittest actor ever'' after watching only one episode.

OT: I couldn't really care about T.V. Nationality, if it's good I'll watch it.

I am starting to watch less and less TV, mostly because of the annoying practise of channels being determined to advertise the show which is on next with shitty animated pictures in the corner which somewhat break the immersion (particularly Sky)...

having said that America does have better TV as they have HBO

Given that the only American shows I watch are South Park, Family Guy and Mythbusters, I don't really think I can substantiate any claim as to one or the other due to lack of a representative sample.

Well, they both have good things. As I have seen, the American 'Whose line is it anyway' is far superior to our version.
I'd say both versions are about the same in quality, except for the Richard Simmons episode that was hillarious! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTxkxG3DF4k

Your willingness to discuss is a hard sell when you start off by patronizing Americans...

Personally, I like both. I think that there are far too many cop dramas right now here in the states. At the same time I think we do drama better when weighed against Brit television. We have a pedigree of shows like Dexter, LOST, Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, Justified.
That said I still think that TV on both fronts has gotten overall better over the last couple of years and decades.
Comedywise, I usually am on the fence. Love both. Although we do have Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia... Haha.

And though I do like Top Gear I have to admit most of the show is a commercial for the cars. Still love it though

The Americans win in terms of awesome drama (they have the Wire, so we're screwed there)

We (UK) win in terms of having news reporters who aren't insane.

Luther is awesome!

it's like someone took Taggart, took out all the shit dialogue and production values and injected Stringer Bell!
