Okay. Never in my life have I ever been so scared.
Ever.
This game - just recently came out - actually takes the cake when it comes to survival horror, and holy shit it's not being played enough. I really wanted to find people to talk about this game with, but hardly anyone even knows it exists. So, if you're out there: post the scariest moment you've had with this game, or any other for that matter.

Mine:
definitely when I entered the cellar and encountered the water monster. I crouched on top of a crate and watched in horror as the footsteps came towards me, all the while yelping and shaking with what can only be described as pure terror. My heart has never raced that fast in my life.

(Edited the poll question to make it more specific and relevant - this isn't a 'scariest game' thread, just a discussion on this game and how it compares)

I voted amnesia because the demo was really scary, and by looking at penumbra (their older game), I can say frictional is the master of horror
Edit: the water monster was scary I agree

I watched the trailer on steam for amnesia....I found out that it was a game I will not buy, because I was scared by the trailer, and if I can't survive the trailer, then I certainly won't survive the game xD

I really recommend it. It's only about $20 on Steam at the moment, and I recommend trying out the demo. It's basically everything you need to know if you're gonna like the game or not.

Also, the fear is addictive. Seriously. I can't help but keep going back for more.

I tried playing the demo for Amneisa, but continuously got incapacitated when my "sanity" meter stayed perpetually in the "braindead" section. I thought it an interesting mechanic until it required me to progress to recover it, but I could not progress because of it, and inevitably just stopped playing.

Ah Amnesia, the only game that (literally) made me piss my pants in terror.

OT: For scariest, I'd have to say Amnesia but, for experiences, Silent Hill takes the cake. The part with the Abstract Daddy boss fight in SH2 gave me 3 sleepless nights. Just the design of the room and the monster, was just so eerie to me. Oh and let's not forget about the School in SH1.

Just...never....forget...about....that...place...

Uhh most I've been scared playing a game was the first time I played the Bioshock demo, I couldn't finish it. Dead space comes a close second.

Amnesia is the least scary thing in the world. Seriously, I'm the kinda guy who wets himself at horror, but it's just laughably cheesy.

I mean, the water monster? I saw it arriving, and laughed my head off, proceeding to name it "Mr. Splashy" I guess horror works for people in different ways.

I'm sure I'll like it, as I really liked the Penumbra games.

I agree, the Silent Hill games have had their moments where you just can't play anymore. But one thing that took away from it was the combat. Maybe that's why I'm so impressed with Amnesia... because you can't defend yourself at all >.<

I'm actually the complete opposite here. Bioshock was jumpy at the beginning, but after a while I just became immune and enjoyed the story. Who can forget the Dentist :p
Same with Dead Space, actually. It still managed to keep me on edge, but not true fear. I think I'm more into the psychological horror thang.

I found Amnesia: The Dark Descent scary because of the new interaction system. I found myself fumbling around trying to close a open on a monster. Which I found to be intresting and annoying at the same time because their was no tutorial given on this new system.

Also like to note that the poll is biased because you have given your opinion in the title. Which might influence the results.

I'd have to agree with your scariest moment that the OP mentioned, but only because I've only played up to there in the demo. I actually just got off of playing it, and duuuuudddee, it is Without a doubt the scariest, freakiest game I've played.

I can't play Amnesia for more than about half an hour before I need to go play something else for a while. But I keep going back for more because I want to see what happens next.

Theres just something about hiding behind the rotting carcass of a slaughtered cow while a hideous monster wanders the room that you just don't get in other games.

You thought Bioshock was scary, but laughed at Amnesia? I guess people DO scare differently, because I was at best mildly anticipatory when playing Bioshock, but I nearly had a heart attack playing the Amnesia demo.

Just wondering how I could change the poll to be less biased. I gave my opinion in my OP, but I wanted this thread to be a discussion about the game (since I'm sure there are hundreds of threads rating the scariest games out there). The poll is to see if others agree that this game is genuinely scary, or if they consider the other games listed to be better.
Any advice would be helpful so I can improve it :p

After playing Fatal Frame 2 I scared heckless.
Though this could have been down to the time I was playing it and such...I'd like to say that there are other pretty creepy games. The Path pretty creeped me out just because of how subtle it started out.

Played the Demo at half past one in the morning. With headphones on.

>.>

I forced myself to not get too immersed though, or I'd probably shit myself.

Might pick it up when it's cheaper, atm I have no money and I really wanna buy Civ 5 :p

Well not putting one of the answers in the title. Seeing as you wanted the discussion to be on Amnesia TDD a poll probably isn't the best way to go. Asking a question like how does Amnesia TDD compare to other horror games. Would be better.

Back to polls, with such a limited ability in polls. An open ended question like what game scaried you the most would give better results because people will feel limited to the games in the poll.

Also waiting and leting other people give their opinion before you give your opinion allows people no starting point to avoid people agreeing with you because they can't think of a game off the head of their head.
