Japanese live-action films are also extremely different from English ones. Just like French horror flicks are much less bearable than their American counterparts. See, the style is also very different, but there's no special name for it. I don't know how well you know japanese cinema, but just take the flick 'Gozu' for example. No western director would make a movie this crazy - not even David Lynch, and that's saying a lot.A random person said:Anime is considered distinct because of its relative prominence combined with its differences from western animation and distinct stylistic differences, or at least that's my guess. People would want a different word to talk about this animation that's not like typical western animation.Gladion said:Yeah, probably, but I think that was the point. Why? We don't have another word for japenese, german, french, australian etc. films. Why is the word 'anime' neccessary here? It just gives a lot of people the impression 'anime' was a genre, which it is not, it's a form of art, like books, films and even a few video games. Which brings me to another point: how can someone 'hate anime'? There's so fuckin many and they're so fuckin different there's gotta be something you can enjoy.A random person said:Probably just a convenient word to refer to it separately from western animation.Gladion said:As far as I'm concerned, Anime is just the japanese word for 'cartoon' and japanophile pricks just started using the term for... whatever reason.Souplex said:Just because it is from Japan does not mean it is better, it should not even have its own unique name! Canadian animation does not have its own title so why should Japanese?
Maybe they still are scared the Japanese (I've recognized many Americans 'hating' anime)? Like, WW-II style? Or it's just loving to piss people off.A random person said:As for people hating all anime, they're just stupid, somewhat elitist (like that "I'll never succumb to watching anime" post I responded to earlier), or most likely trolling. I just recommend then Cowboy Bebop, since it has a superior English dub and lacks a lot of the things people hate about anime. Also the Miyazaki films since nobody can really hate them and they also lack the things people hate about anime.

I know what you're saying. With animondays on Scifi channel (I refuse to call it Syfy) there was a good show, Gurren Lagann, and a crap show, Rave Master. Networks showing anime seem to have weird priorities.Gladion said:Maybe they still are scared the Japanese (I've recognized many Americans 'hating' anime)? Like, WW-II style? Although I must say when zapping to the Anime channel, 90% of the time I see just plain shit. Seriously. The broadcast one shitty episode of a shitty show after another, and then, the good stuff like Ghost in the Shell or Elfen Lied gets a spot somewhere between 2:00 and 4:00 am.Goddamnit. Western labels don't make it easy for us to find stuff we like.
well, when you buy beer cold or it gets cold, and then gets hot, or warm... and then you cool it again to drink it... it tastes funny. basically cold beer, then made hot, and then made cool again = skunked.slevin8989 said:Whoa whoa whoa what's skunked beer first of all it sounds amazing

So in other words, same situation as usual, except it isn't fogging up the Off-Topic section?Gormourn said:But, you see, making an anime forum would only end up in endless VS polls filled with idiotswho can't spell (Oh my, a generalization)Yes, and a very annoying one at that arguing about if Ichigo would beat Sasuke, or whatever shitty mainstream anime is the big thing in 2009 and so on.
as my father used to tell me... 'do what i say not what i do.' *swigs*slevin8989 said:You're a great teacher teaching by example here aren't we XD
When you say media, do you mean entertainment media other than gaming (IE, not including stuff like politics and war, as appears in the media)? Because that could work. For quite a bit of today I've been thinking about a music forum, but a media one would probably be much better.Sevre90210 said:Its been brought up before in the thread but I think one big media forum would be best.
I've been thinking about a music forum too,but like the anime one,it could become stale quickly, I think a media forum covering TV,Music,Movies and Anime would be best. No current issues or anything.Zombie_Fish said:When you say media, do you mean entertainment media other than gaming (IE, not including stuff like politics and war, as appears in the media)? A lot actually: I've seen good anime threads posted in the Off-Topic section get crushed by the waves of threads that appear. So I would like for there to be another, anime-specific section.Gormourn said:What is there to discuss about anime, really?
I like this idea.Sevre90210 said:I've been thinking about a music forum too,but like the anime one,it could become stale quickly, I think a media forum covering TV,Music,Movies and Anime would be best. No current issues or anything.
That probably does sound like the best idea. Problem with specific aspects of the entertainment media other than gaming is that there isn't enough really to talk about, and usually just degenerate into vs threads as a result. Gaming is an acception because this is a gaming website, so there's usually fresh ideas available. But a media forum would work, as it would be covering enough topics to not go stale for a long time at least.Sevre90210 said:I've been thinking about a music forum too,but like the anime one,it could become stale quickly, I think a media forum covering TV,Music,Movies and Anime would be best. I thought you meant beer with actual Skunk in it at first, like you'd stirred dope into your beer or something.la-le-lu-li-lo said:well, when you buy beer cold or it gets cold, and then gets hot, or warm... and then you cool it again to drink it... it tastes funny. basically cold beer, then made hot, and then made cool again = skunked.slevin8989 said:Whoa whoa whoa what's skunked beer first of all it sounds amazing
