Just go watch Code Geass and stop complaining. Death Note was alright, but its not suited to everyone's tastes.

Here is my anime list.

I tried making the link prettier, but I failed.

You gave Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann a 6/10. This makes you a peasant.
Also, ignore anyone telling you to watch K-On. Moe blobs = cancer that is killing anime.

EDIT: You should really watch Planetes.

I disagree to a bit, I read the manga and laughed at the music practice scenes.

But the Taste Like Diabites bits? Yeah just avoid that.

That's a decent enough list you have there. Besides, nobody who has watched FLCL, Lupin III, Trigun AND pre-Z Dragonball deserves to be called an "anime peasant". I think you're right - the person you were talking to IS full of shit. This looks like nothing more than another classic case of "I like this but you don't? YOU STUPID! ME ANGRY! AAAAARGH!"

I think you should simply initiate the universal standard procedure for this sort of situation: Ignore & move on!

Bye bye fanboy.
I'm a jerk because I explain why the show was good? Okay, maybe my tone sounded condescending, I'll admit. Text is notoriously bad at showing tone. But my goal was not to make you look bad, just show you why you might be wrong. At the very least I wanted you to see that story-wise it was "textbook" good.

But that's probably going about it the wrong way. You want to know why I really love this show? Because it resonates emotionally with me. For example, every time I watch it, it makes me cry at least 4 times. Once the first season, and three times for the second. Three times. So maybe when you said the second season was bad I got a little defensive. I apologize. I just find it difficult to see someone not appreciating the story as much as I do. But to each his own I guess.

Curious why you dropped One Piece. But I don't think you're a anime peasant you've watched more than me.

The big problem I had with Code Geass was that it was trying to be two shows at once, and the slice of life highschool dramedy got in the way of what I was invested in. I wanted to see this little power hungry chessmaster dupe people by nuking mountains or manipulating officials. When it gets interspersed with images of teenagers humping tables in the dark or gratuitous fanservice scenes, it totally drew me out of the plot.

Despite that, I enjoyed R1 overall, because when it actually dealt with the rebellion, it was intriguing. I enjoyed it in spite of the juvenile tit show that the high school portion showed. I thought that the season ending was a great cliffhanger.

Then R2 rolled around, and everything stopped dead in its tracks. The first few episodes were just a repeat of building up the Black Knights because they felt the need to kill all the momentum that had built up in R1 to show more of the high school bullcrap.

I would hardly call it the greatest story ever told, because like all such statements, it is a purely subjective view. Sorry to react violently, but I don't have much patience for people who tell me I'm wrong because I lack the proper education to appreciate something properly.

Here's a list of all the anime I watch:

I'd happily watch any anime, if I could get over it's style and storytelling. But I can't, not any more. I've not really seen any anime that isn't over the top, stylized or weird/silly in some way. Which isn't really my thing anymore. In the interest of staying on topic, is there any anime out there that might still be interesting in a japanophobe like me?
Hello there good sir. I dare say I think I could recommend you wholeheartedly Kino's Journey (otherwise known as Kino no Tabi.

It has none of the things that you complain about. It's relatively slow paced, philosophical, episodic material that focuses on story, characters, and little ironic twists.

In addition to this, Mushishi, a very similar slow paced show. Episodic and visually arresting. By luck, the first episode is on youtube.

As for a third recommendation, this is from a good friend of mine. Mononoke. First episode here. Gorgeous really.

Your list is downright pathetic.

Most of it is just movies for series, and of those series, it's mostly just popular licensed stuff.

Even your backlog looks like it's from 2009.

I can understand that. I'll admit that the series isn't perfect, but no story is. But I think there was purpose in what they did, even if it came as badly to some. Lelouche as a character was largely about his different masks. As in he was a different person depending on who was around and what the situation needed. In that regard the high school stuff was kind of necessary for comparison. Did they maybe go a little bit overboard with it? Perhaps. It's all subjective based on your story preferences.

But one of the greatest things about this show, and part of why I love it so much, is the play between Leouche and Suzaku. As characters they oppose each other so much, and yet despite that manage to finally work together at the very end for the common good. It shows a lot of strength for Suzaku to forgive Lelouche for what he did, even if he didn't know the whole truth. And Leouche being able to finally let go of his ego and do something that didn't benefit him at all, was the final progression of his character.

Sorry, I'm going all in-depth about the story again. It's kind of what I do :p

I gave it a 6/10 because the series ended after Episode 8 when the main character died. The rest of the time was spent trying (and failing) to live up to the pure, concentrated awesome that was Kamina.

Also note the list wasn't complete last night. I did the best I could, but I was damn tired and couldn't think of everything I'd seen. I've been adding to the list slowly (like adding Desert Punk among other things) but its not completely done yet.

Ooof. Damn you, I really want to talk about all the anime you SHOULD have on that list. But you have Blue Submarine No. 6... As long as you didn't watch in on Toonami I guess I can give you props for that.

Well, save Spice & Wolf none of my personal favourites are on there, but as I don't know most of the ones which are, and am hardly fit to discern what constitutes quality in all the copious anime genres in existence anyway, the mystery of your anime lineage will unfortunately remain unsolved until someone like Hayao Miyazaki drops by.

Or you could, you know, not care what random people on the internet thought of what stuff you did or didn't like, and concentrate on finding more of the former. Though I suppose this will come to double as a recommendation thread anyway.

Peasant seems like a weird term to use. You haven't watched that much, but that's not something to be embarrassed about. I'm not the right judge to determine the quality of your list anyway, since I hate shonen anime way too much to be fair. Any suggestions I can come up with wouldn't suit it either, so I'm not sure if I should bother.

Although... why have you watched Innocence and not the first Ghost in the Shell movie? That's absurd. Watch the first movie. Not the "2.0" version with the bad CGI and smoothing thrown, get the 1080p version of the unedited film instead. It's awesome.

I'm not quite clear on what you're asking for. An anime without anything over the top, stylized or weird/silly in some way? Are you looking for a drama with no fantasy or sci-fi elements and no comic relief? That's going to be a pretty short list, even if you include regular TV shows and movies.

EDIT: I mean, yeah, there are naturalistic movies. You know what I mean, though.

If all you've seen are series that are on Adult Swim, you most certainly haven't seen enough anime to put down someone else for not having seen enough anime. He's full of shit, but shame on you for not just looking at a previous thread of "Recommend me anime" and finding some good ones from those.

]Nah, even though I enjoyed both series, I can understand where you're coming from. I've seen a fair share of anime (I've got an anime list [http://myanimelist.net/animelist/KiraMustDie], too.) and I, too, have some series that I hate that everyone else seem to love.
Same here.
Although I do have series that everyone else seems to love and I DESPISE... (ie: Zero no Tsukima)
I prefer my manga list, but here's my anime list [http://myanimelist.net/animelist/HailFire998]...
Also: OP: You have some meh stuff and some great stuff. I wouldn't call you a peasant, but you could do with moar epic animez.
Also, the bulk of your stuff is bad... ~10 are great, the rest are shit or nothing too great. I'd say browse some good anime recommendation threads... but I can't call you a peasant if you like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop.

I'd say you're a peasant since your list is tiny, but how much anime you watch doesn't affect you having an opinion on a show. I've seen way more anime than what is healthy and I have shit taste. Proof. [http://myanimelist.net/animelist/tsuki15]

Oh and these animes i've listed include some of the extras likes OVA's sometimes too.
