Poll: Anime: Original Japanese or English Dub?

I just prefer watching something in the original voice track. Plus, I'm Dutch so I was raised on subtitles.
There's only one anime that I prefer to watch dubbed and it's this pretty obscure show called My Dear Marie.

None of these poll selections are right. The correct answer is: Whatever you feel like listening to.
Why? Because some people sound better than others to different people. I want Hellsing and FMA in english. I want Heroic Age and Pumpkin Scissors in Japanese. If you say I can't have it both ways, then I think we're not speaking the same language.

Depends really. DBZ has an awesome english dub, and the Japanese is terrible. I really like Bleach's english dub, though I only like the first season.
However, I do tend to watch most of my anime with subs, it syncs up better, and a lot a english dubbed anime is also censored. Which is lame. However, I wont discount english dubs, they attract a larger fanbase, and some of them are very good. Also, my friend is a pretentious bastard when it comes to subs over dubs. When I pointed out all the anime he watched as a kid was english dubbed (eg DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon. Yes it is anime) and he liked that, he said "yes, but then I saw the light". So I like to find good dubs as an affront to him.

Heh, well, if I go around watching anime legally, there are almost always subs because anime audio tends to come in two flavours: English (not my native language) and Japanese (not my native language). The only ones that have Finnish audio are anime for the youngest crowd.
Granted, I know English a thousand times better than Japanese, but really, at this point the language itself has nothing to do with whch I decide to go with (if both options are available, that is), it depends on the quality of the dialogue and the theme/setting of the anime. If the work is better acted and better written in one language, that's a no-brainer, but provided that the dub and the original score just about as well, I go with whichever language fits the setting and theme better. Watching an Japanese-spoken anime that takes place in England feels weird no matter how well the acting is done.

I guess watching stuff in English would mean that you have to care less about reading and more about the visuals, but I usually watch films with subs even if I understand the spoken language just fine. It takes a millisecond to absorb the text so I don't have to focus on it, giving me ample time to both enjoy the dialogue and the other stuff going on.

ii) US voice actors make me, almost without exception, incredibly annoyed. English subs I can handle because I can correct them. English dubs are homogenised bullshit, and it is invariably homogenised to US idiom.

Anime rarely translates well into English.
When dialogue is made for a certain language, it usually sounds off in anything else.

(Funny enough Deadnote works really well in German which I do understand quite a bit.)

I prefer English dubs since it's my native language. Although sometimes I like subtitles, I generally like to hear the dialogue and see the action, instead of it all being basically totally a visual medium. I guess I just really don't want to always have to read, it's pretty distracting sometimes.
Maybe I've just been lucky and liked a lot of the Dubs I've heard (the only exception to one's I've seen is "The Super Dimension Fortress Macross" which just pained me to hear... I blame it being the 80's. There is this old anime "Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma" that I prefer the subtitles, but the dub isn't bad in my opinion, it's just that the sub is what I originally heard so I'm used to it I guess) but, generally from what I've seen, animes now get dubbed by actual good actors that can actually ACT

If I am watching it by myself, I prefer subs. I feel it's a more authentic experience.
If I am hanging out with my homies and we decide to toss in Ninja Scroll or something, I'd vote for a dub so it's easier to follow and I'm not so focused on reading I can't talk to my friends.

I don't watch much Anime anymore, mostly a case of not knowing what to watch or where to watch it. But when I did I prefered the English dub, mostly because I hated reading the bloody subtitles. The damn things would go too bloody fast for me to catch everything that was being said unless I paused it, and since I was spending most the time reading the damn subs, I found I missed half the action.
I've heard people complain about content rape and whatever, but if you don't see the original you really don't know what your missing, do you?
Although I do prefer it when the company that does the dubbing keeps the original Japanese music intact instead of substituting some crappy hip hop bullshit, I'm looking at you FUNimmation.

The voice acting of English dubs are never as good, in my opinion, as the Japanese counter part and sometimes they are just downright laughable.
It definitely depends on the anime. Take FLCL - in my opinion, the English voice actors did a hell of a lot better than the Japanese ones. But then again, there's Higurashi's dubs...

I watch with subs, unless it's something like Death Note, where the English voice overs are amazing. The main problem i have with it is that I don't like the voice acting of most dubs, and subs can sometimes be hard to read -due to my short sitedness- , unless it's on a PC monitor and I'm only a foot or two away from the screen.
