Same, for the same reason that I pray Metal Gear Solid, Halo, Final Fantasy, and Naruto will all die in a fire... Over hyping fanboys and fangirls who treat it as if it were Gods remake of Citizen Kane.

I have a pretty broad taste when it comes to anime, liking just about everything - action, drama, horror, you name it.

I'll try just about anything as well, and save for Gantz there wasn't really an anime that I didn't like watching.
Oh, and School Days. I had to trudge through the latter part of that.

Allow me to play devil's advocate and attempt to respond to several interesting point you have raised in post.

What exactly is an realistic cartoon anyway? Do you mean unrealistic as in art style or in story telling? I'd like to see some example of realistic cartoon if you can think of any. Low frame rate does not equal low quality. As long as action sequence and keyscene are property timed low frame rate doesn't really reduce the quality of the product. And what do you consider as proper idea. Does twin peak's murderous evil spirit taking over individual to do evil act count as a proper idea? (this is not saying twin peak is a bad series. I'm only trying to point out the lack of originality when taken at face value). About Japan being xenophobic, I don't think it's that much different than most other countries in the world including US.

Also it's interesting how you say the visual of anime and manga irritates you. Does that only apply to manga and anime? What about something like disney or simpsons or adultswim? If not then what is it about manga and anime that irritates you. I personally can't stand reading American comic books, because of the dull panel layout and lack of motion and excessive dialog in it despite being a visual median.

About the massive Japanophiles that seems to worship anything Japanese. While it is true that type of demographic exist, but surely you wouldn't take them seriously this being internet and all. And these type of fanatic exist for all types of crazy groups. I'm sure you can find a equal number of Alien worshippers just the same if you look at the right forum. Secondly with information easily accessible on the internet, why don't you research a bit about the anime suggested to you before even consider watching them. Unless you're the type of person who hates spoiler then you only have yourself to blame for blindly accepting suggestion. Hellsing and Death Note for mature audience is to GTA4 and Manhunt for mature gamers. They're the type of maturity that only a 14 years old would like. If you base your opinion of mature content on those examples then I feel sorry for your misconception. There are all type of anime for all kinds of people, just most of the good ones are buried under a giant pile of teenage ejaculation and turd. If you find something your truly like than all the digging would be worth it.

And about the magical fighting teenagers. Why do teenagers have to fight you ask. Well why not? What's wrong with teenagers fighting evil power to save the world? What's wrong with teenagers receive magical power randomly and fight seemingly pointless battles. Do you want all teenagers to be depicted as shallow materialistic snobs who only cares about appearance social status, like most of the TV drama about high school kids. Like skins, one tree hill, and other generic high school drama they have out there? Power ranger was a pretty good TV series back in the 90's and it's about some random group of teenagers fighting some random evil power. Same thing with american cartoon like x-men or even power puff girls, although they're like preschool or something.

Lastly about the claim that anime is a superior form. While indeed most anime are crap with fanservice, big tits and panty shots, mindless blood gushing gore and sexualization of underage girls, it is precisely these characteristics that make anime a superior form. Where else can you watch about a third grade girl wants to have sex with her teacher, about magical breast milk that fights evil beings, about incest between any possible family combination. Where else can you watch about gallons of blood coming out from every orifices of human body or torn intestine being carelessly drag through the screen. Where else can you watch about romantic comedy where the main character is being dry hump by every female characters in the show for no apparent reason. Where else can you watch all of these above on broadcast television. It's why anime has so much crap in it, and also have some top quality production ever.

Well if you ever read this post just give it some thought, or anyone for that matter. Any inputs are welcomed.

P.S. maybe you'd like to try Monster. It's about some mass murder mystery.

Personally I love anime. But as with everything else, there is good anime and bad anime. I normally avoid the Otaku fodder and concentrate on the more mature and intelligent series.

Examples
-Ergo Proxy
-Rahxephon
-Mnemosyne
-Elfen Lied
-Ghost In The Shell: SAC
-Full Metal Panic
-Blassreiter
-Hellsing
-Claymore
-Blood +
-Trinity Blood
-Black Lagoon
-Witch Hunter Robin
-Karas

Some animés I just cant stand.Like most of those over 200 episodes "Mainstream" ones.I.E. One Piece,Naruto,Bleach,Dragon Ball anything.
I have a little theory that is that most animés that are over 30 episodes are fairly bad.And no animé that I have seen breaks that rule.
My favorite animés are all fairly well known. But not all that popular. At least not with the common animé fan.

To me, anime is like every other medium; you're gonna go through a lot of horrible shit everyone else loves, but you may in fact find that gem that's actually pretty damn good.

For me, it was a series called Gungrave. The ending kind of sucked though. And I will admit Death Note wasn't bad.

What I hate is all those power-play plots, where everything just depends on how powerful X person is compared to Y person, and what X person needs to do to beat the next guy. I'd almost love for some reach back to realism, so that the protagonist could potentially get beaten up by a small kid with a baseball bat if he's caught off guard.

I'm not too psyched for any particular series, but if an Ace Attorney series starts, I would immediately buy the DVDs.

I used to like it. My tastes changed. I now require a certain depth in my entertainment that anime no longer supplies. It's too shallow.

I am a big fan of anime. Especially some of the older stuff like Rurouni Kenshin, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Cyborg 009 and Dragonball Z. But there is some really great new stuff out there as well, i.e. One Piece, Naruto and Bleach.

I see a lot of people saying they like "weird" anime; and then mentioning shows like Lain. Personally on an A-F scale I give Lain a C-. Lain was really hyped up for me and it was kind of a let down. Then again I did watch it when I was like 14 or 15 and I'm 24 now so maybe I should re-watch it. To me recollection its only a 12 episode series. But if any of you like "weird" anime I suggest; HIGHLY suggest, Boogiepop Phantom. In my opinion it was everything Lain was supposed to be, and a lot more.

I find myself needing to respond to this. I am curious as to why something is bad simply due to the fact that it is "mainstream" or because it has 200+ episodes. The only thing that proves is that the series in question has been monumentally successful and/or that their writers felt that the plots could not be resolved after only 30 episodes. Not criticizing so- to-speak, just curious.

any good show needs 3 basic elements in my opinion. first, it needs actually good fighting that doesnt get boring after 5 minutes (there are a few exceptions, but one shouldnt take three episodes to go super sayian). second, it needs good characters that the audience is able to relate and can keep their attention for a while. last, there must be comic relief. comic relief is the glue that holds the show together. japanese anime tends to fit all of these elements. this is all opinion and it fits the japanese anime i have already seen. if you find a good anime show that fits these rules, then tell me about it.

Anime/Manga is alot like Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels if you ask me.

The vast majority is a steaming pile of pig crap but then you come across an Enders Game or Code Geass and it all becomes worth the effort of looking the the diamond in the rough.

I used to enjoy Inuyasha, but have since given up on all anime I used to watch. I'm currently indifferent to it, neither watching any, nor avoiding any mention of it. I can see the appeal, I just don't watch television period.
