Anime is really, really terrible. I have seen a lot of anime, and the vast majority of what I have seen have been nothing more than masturbatory exercises in gratuitous sex and violence made even worse by a budget that necessitates really high collars obscuring people's mouths when they're talking so that they don't need to animate it.

The worst thing is the "anime joke." You know ? it's when a male character says something lecherous and a female character responds by physically assaulting him and screaming something, usually extending the pronunciation of the last syllable. I dunno, maybe this is hilarious in a culture where the overriding concern is to not stand out or do anything that indicates that you are not completely committed to the status quo.
I know we've been over this, and this doesn't address your argument as a whole by any means, but since I recall Hellsing being one of the "great anime" your friends showed you, I'd like to point out that the TV series is actually seen as poor (Gonzo), and the whole series is more-or-less gratuitous sex and violence (though sometimes interesting, depending on your POV).

Anime is a prime example of why two nukes just wasn't enough.
How would you feel if I said "Little Britain is a prime example of why the Germans didn't bomb hard enough" or "A prime example of why America/Canada should have stayed on their own side of the Atlantic"?

There is NOTHING funny about that statement, Nuclear Warfare and the dropping of nuclear weapons is HORRIBLE and there is no excuse suggesting that one of the only nations on earth to ever experience first hand the horrifying power of nuclear weapons. Have you ever seen a person wandering around with their skin melted off and their eyeballs boiled out of their sockets? There are people in Japan who HAVE.

I call "troll" on your tasteless post sir, your own opinions towards an entertainment medium are no excuse for "asking" for the death of millions.
It was a joke aimed at the people who had read this thread.

I've always held the belief that the second A-Bomb was one of the most unnecessary acts of violence in the history of warfare, it was just the USA flexing its muscles in order to scare the Soviet Union into behaving themselves after the war.

it hard for me to find a specific anime that appeals to my liking.

so far, I mainly like (and by 'like' I mean love to death) One Piece, which I find to be abit more creative than most animes I see.

Fair enough and I apologize for my rapid reaction and response rant.

But for anyone who DOES think Nukes are funny and that Anime/Manga is trite I challenge you to watch/read the following and then get back to me.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barefoot_Gen
In Barefoot Gen, which is written written/drawn by a Hiroshima Survivor from a family of Pacifists, you get to see images drawn from memory from the immediate aftermath of the bombing. Some of those pictures still haunt my dreams, the fact that they're depicted in comic form is a mercy because I cannot fathom what those scenes must look like NOT filtered by the comic medium.

No need to apologise, it WAS in extremely bad taste, hence the other thread.

OT I really can't abide anime, I enjoyed the Death Note manga and that was about it apart from Ghost In The Shell 1 and 2, but that got me slagged off by this girl I was trying to get with due to it being too "mainstream". She then went on the say only posers watch Ghibly and made me watch some terrible film called Paprika.

I lost interest in her shortly after that...

I like it, especially when you discover that your favorite show actually has a second level of meaning to it, once you take a step back :p
FYI, yes, I am a fan of Higurashi :D

Awww, I liked Paprika, it was delicious crazy. But then again, my Girlfriend hated it so I can't really blame you.

And anyone who says Ghibli is "too mainstream" and "for posers" is clearly new to Anime. Why back in my day Ghibli was a mark of TASTE and DEVOTION to the medium, and since almost none of the movies were released in North America, it was hard to find. Still, Ghibli is popular for a REASON, because they do AMAZING work.

The animation in Paprika is superb (although to be fair, so is most anime) I just can't get my head around really over-the-top weirdness, the same reason I don't like films like Eraserhead or Inland Empire. (Not hating on Lynch, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive are all awesome!)

I think her Ghibli bashing was designed to make her appear the reigning Queen of anime, who rises above what us mere mortals think we know about Japanese animation. Then she offered me some pocky...

I don't mind it too much. Personally like to play games more... so that kills all the little spare time I haven when the situation allows me, but I have a few DvDs (All were gifts, but still); Lain, Beck and of course FLCL. Those are all good... though there's a lot of crap anime produced...

I normally dislike it, as everyone has eyes the size of dinner-plates, the men are either androgynous or Hyper-Masculine and all the women are either husky or UNHEAVENLY High-pitched

Recently, I found Cowboy Bebop, introduced by an anime-loving friend who knew I'd like the title theme (youtube it). It's a lot subtler than the hyper-super-mega-happy-friends-YEAH stuff I'm used to, so it was a nice change

I also think the fight scenes in Naruto are awesome, though I only bumped into them through Yugioh the Abridged Series (which is fantastic/funny)

Obviously, I watched Yugioh and Pokémon when I was a kid

Fuck i love anime.

But goddamn is it terrible.

Gurren Lagaan, Azumanga, Ghost in the Shell, Lucky Star, FLCL, Gunslinger Girl, and Outlaw Star are some main courses i enjoy.

Serioulsy though. Anime is awesome, and NONE OF US SHOULD BE PROUD.
i agree completely, it is a guilty pleasure, but then again what isn't? Btw, props on tao avatar, you play blazblue?
I love Blazblue, but haven't played in a while.

I'm also pretty bad. No, that's not true. I'm fine, it's just that everyone else is absurdly good.

I main Tao and Rachel, and i actually just bought a fight stick for my 360 for fun and profit!

KilgoreTrout90 if you ever want to look me up, but i've been on PC mostly recently.
cool, i play on PSN tho.I main Nu and Hakumen, Nu just cuz she is awesome and hakumen to shut people up who complain about nu lol. Fight sticks are awesome, improved my game by a lot once i got used to using one.

I love it because it can bring to life a story using the following elements: vampires, nazis, mutants, zombies, big guns, werewolves, violent priests, and many historical references. Yes Hellsing is awesome.
Also I find anime makes me think more, the stories i find are deeper (not all, cough*bleach*cough). Who here has watched all of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series? Remember the metaphysical "nightmare"[as i call it] at the end? yeah ive never seen anything like that made by an american...anything.

I hate the constant topics asking people whether they've heard of this magical new genre and why nobody else can appreciate "narutu ^_^."
My opinion is that it has some good stuff in it, but the majority of it is garbage, and a lot of the people who label themselves as "fans" are an embarrassment to the sane people who become afraid to admit an interest. Sort of like rap.
Just to distinguish myself from the inevitable haters, I have the Death Note Complete Series on my desk, halfway(-ish) through a third full viewing.

Uh... why are people condensing anime into a single word like that? That's like asking "do you like movies". Sure, i guess... but not all of them, in fact a minority of them.
Someone with sense on the internet? no wai.

I'm completely indifferent. Several people have tried to get me into it, but it has never really worked. I don't 'hate' the stuff, but it really can't spark my interest in any way either.
