I find it funny that the huge PC title that has taken forever to come out is only a third complete...you only get to play as the humans....why?
Because Blizzard can. More importantly, the meat of the experience for most is in the multiplayer (you don't expect people to play a single player game over and over again religiously for more than a decade do you), where you can play as any of the three races.

The plot is weaker than old SC, (How many 'old friends' does jimmy raynor have?) the main problem being the lack of any emotionally jarring moments. Kerrigan getting infested in SC was sad, but the only thing in SC2 that evokes any emotional response was seeing raynor as a drunk, dreaming about kerri. (And the truly awesome protoss level that i won't spoil) but the overall changes to the campaign were positive IMO (like the upgrading out of game, bringing in old units that you can't get in skirmish, levels that aren't just skirmish with random bits of dialogue)

On that note, why did the human campaign have to be the first one out? I realize that we are all probably human-centric (and possibly racist towards aliens); but, if you are only going to release 1/3 of the plot as way to engage non-fans to get the rest of the games, then why release the space marine plot first. Space marines have only one plot, and it is "shoot aliens dead." Zerg or Protoss would have been a much cooler first release.

I've only played 6 or seven missions, but I think that the plot goes at snail pace. We only roam the galaxy to get more money and units. Sure we help those colonists, but they don't feel very important to the storyline. Also making me choose their fate was a dick move. I don't want to replay the entire campaing only to know what happens to them if I chose the other option. The only time I've seen kerrigan was for like 5 seconds and the whole rebelion thing seems to have been forgotten...

I can't account for how good it all comes together, seeing that I haven't finished it yet, but at least it's presented in a much better way this time. There is actual characterization and decent cinematics, unlike SC1's crappy little in-betweens.

And let's face it, it's an RTS. You're not exactly going to find a lot of mid-battle exposition, it'd break the game.

What kind of an excuse is that? Who says RTS's can't have decent stories to go alongside them? Hell, Bioware is trying to make an MMORGP with an actual plotline. Anyway, returning to RTS's, I (like Yahtzee) have never been a huge RTS fan, but I tried Halo Wars (and some others RTS's) to try and get a feel for them. I found Halo Wars to be a great RTS with a story. It had an actual plotline, the cinema scenes were engaging and cool, the missions actually had variety.
I did not mean to imply that RTSs couldn't have a decent story. Just that they never do.

I do not know why this is the case. Perhaps because the story in an RTS always has to serve as an excuse for endless repetitions of the old harvest-resources-build-army-stomp-on-enemy routine.

As for Halo Wars being "a great RTS with a story"... phhtHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAhahahahaaheheheeee... heh.

Ah. Okay, sorry misunderstanding you. I would agree that the potential for a good story is there, but usually never acted upon.
In regards to Halo Wars, it's good RTS with a story. As just an RTS it is terrible. And, I guess I only like the story because it serves to actually connect the missions to each other instead of leaving the reasons for them unexplained. Lastly, I like it a little as an RTS because it was the first one to have missions that weren't just build a base, then an army, and then murder other base and army. Also, it was the first to actually use cutscenes, which were occasionally badass. Again though, I've got basically zero expereince with RTS's, and I mostly went for Halo Wars because I'm a fan of the Halo series, and I could borrow the game from a friend and beat it once for free.

This is a uninformed comment. It's definitely a full game.

/smack

You must not like yahtzee to be able to say that.
Yahtzee is great fun, but he may focus too much plotholes and stupid characters and he forgets that gameplay is king.

John Carmack of Doom and Quake fame had the right idea:

"Story in a game is like a story in a PORN movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."

Even game designers like Bioware, who do focus on making a better story don't fully succeed.

There is no rule saying an RTS can't have a decent plot. In fact, the original Starcraft had a better-than-decent one. And yes, i WAS expecting something akin to that, considering the rest of the game is damn near perfect. Your own opinions on RTS storylines are subjective.
Like I said to the other guy, I did not mean to imply that RTSs couldn't have a decent story. Just that they never do.

Of all the RTSs I've played, the original Starcraft probably had the best story. But that's not saying much. It was still laughably bad when compared to the likes of, say, Shadow of the Colossus or Portal. But hey, it's all subjective, right?

Was I incorrect or is the single player campaign only the human's story? Or can you play as the other races in single player?

The game has all races ready and available for skirmish and multiplayer, and the campaign has 22 human missions and 4 (optional) protoss missions, along with bonus units and upgrades for humans. More than enough if you ask me.
No the game sounds like it only carters to those who like the human race in the game. 4 optional protoss missions sounds like they are trying to suck another $50 out of you down the road and then another $50 instead of just giving you a complete game.

Starcraft 2 = $150 for the full game

So your just going with the video games companies are evil argument. How do you know that they won't patch it or make it free? And even if they don't make it free I doubt they'll end up making it that expensive.

Raynor protects Kerrigan from Tychus' rifle and kills Tychus with his revolver. Raynor is then shown walking across the battlefield with Kerrigan in his arms.

There now you can play the only good part of Starcraft 2, the multiplayer....well good is a stretch.
