Seeing as Apple has said they wanted to see the Ipod Touch as a game console, and with big companies like Gamespot and EA making quality games(well, the Gamespot games are quality, anyway) and Rockstar confirming that they will be porting GTA:Chinatown Wars to the Ipod, does anyone other than me think there will be an Apple game console that is not a portable?

I can't see Apple ever developing a console strictly for gaming. I don't doubt that they could do it, but honestly, it seems too focused for them. Seems more likely that it'd be a "multimedia center" type thing that plays games as well as movies, music, Internet, etc.

Its probably me just being an incredible cynic but i would love to see apple try to compete with Nintendo and somehow i think thats going to be difficult. The wii i think outsells both PS3 and the xbox. It certainly will be interresting to watch and see what they come out with, the iconsole perhaps or the igame. Whats with the "i" by the way? wouldn't be better to use "a" but never mind.

personally i dont see apple trying to come into the computer games market, as Microsoft wouldn't take to kindly to it and would run them into the ground

Don't the PS3 and 360 do that anyway? I'm sure the iConsole ( The name we shall use temporarily) would be no different.

hmmm... sounds expensive. I personally like Apple, but I think that's one less console we need floatin around.

I can't see them having a go at a static system, they're doing well hand-held though so they should focus on that.

I'd like to see them make a PC console.
.....What?

Explain to me how that would be any different from... you know... a PC?
Perhaps that was the point? I dunno.

I would not buy it. But then I despise Apple so it's not a surprise.

Didn't they already make one? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Bandai_Pippin]

It failed horribly.

I can imagine they would aim for the casual market, so if PS3 and 360 are battling it out at the moment, the new Apple console would most likely try and compete with the Wii.

But making a gaming console is a ton of hard work, and I really doubt that Apple would risk going into the buisness when the competition is so well-established at this point. I'm pretty sure this is what we call an 'oligopoly' in economics - though I'm really not sure about it - but regardless of what the name is, this type of market is very difficult to establish yourself in.

I'm sure Apple could, but it's terribly risky for any company to enter the console wars.

Considering as to how Macs aren't even in the same league as PCs when it comes to gaming, I think it's rather unlikely.

But then again they might make a sort of casual console, further bastardizing hardcore gaming with more low quality games and insufferable fans.

Who said that? WHO THE HELL SAID THAT?!? WE DO NOT SPEAK THE NAME OF THAT WRETCH EVER.
*storms off angrily*

Anyways, as much of an Apple fanboy as I am, and believe me I am, I'd never really want to see them make a console. I feel like they do what they do well, and that branching out into gaming wouldn't really be the best decision

no doubt the counsel would be bloody expensive, but it'd be interesting to see the Apple vs. Microsoft nerds battling THAT one out.
