Well, when I wear it in a tail, people say I look like orlando bloom.
When I wear it loose, people say I look like Johnny Depp.

Pretty obvious, really..

Question, is your grand father George Carlin. Cuase that might explain there apperence.

so i've been growing my hair out for a while now (i'm a guy, by the way) and my hair is now considerably longer than most of my female friends, and i wear a ponytail, for practicality and because i think they have a "fight the system" kind of attitude to them. the feedback i've got is pretty much 50-50, my sister in particular expressingly telling me that they are NOT cool and that i should get a haircut. so what do the general public think?

(i would post an image were it not for the stupid Facebook image viewer thing that disallows the viewing of individual image pages, and therefor, image URLs)

EDIT: sorry, that bottom one says "" apparently, you don't use 's in the poll options

i dont have a ponytail anymore because i dreaded my hair, but for the past few years i did. my bangs were down to my chest and the back of my hair reached down to my mid-back. i never really got many comments except that some girls said it made me look cute (then again, others preferred me with my hair down). i work in an art field so maybe its slightly more acceptable. however, i would not say ponytails have a fight the system feel to them. i think they have more of a "my hairs too long and i need to keep it out of my face" feel to them. never once saw a guy with a ponytail and thought that he looked badass or that he was a revolutionary.

bottom line: if you like having long hair, tie it back. but dont have a pony tail just so you can say you have a pony tail

My hair is probably pushing 70-80 centimeter(I'm a guy) and I've always had it loose. On me, and most people, ponytails looks awful. Some can pull it off, but that's a rare number.

Meh I usually wear my hair in a ponytail for convenience sake (another long haired guy if your wondering) most people say it looks better down though.

I've seen some guys sport awesome ponytails (like my physics professor). Though it's not for everyone, some people can pull it off others can't.

I'm biased on this subject simply because I used to have one myself. Had it cut off after about a year and a half because I was sick of kids and distracted parents (or just half-blind old biddies) refering to me as "the lady" or "miss" (I work in my local grocery store and I'm a guy btw).

I personally like long hair and don't think that society should demand that "men have short hair, women have long hair" (or many other gender-based differences, though some do seem better kept as they are. Some fat, hairy, ugly old man in a mini-skirt is NOT appealing... and yes, you DO see that sort of thing when you work in retail, unfortunately *shudders*)

And if your grandfather IS George Carlin, kudos to you for having such an awesome heritage!

Personally, I love a man with a good ponytail.

What it really comes down to is most people can look fine with long hair, if it's kept well. However, women are taught that they must take care of their hair because they are expected to have long hair, while many men never learn this lesson. The result? Most women look great with long hair and most men look horrible with it.

Take care of your hair and it'll probably look at least fine. Depending on your hair, face, and body, you might even look awesome.

(Oh, and keep in mind that if you are more comfortable, confident, and satisfied with your appearance with long hair, you will look better overall. People who have long hair out of laziness and/or as a curtain to hide behind will always look pretty terrible.)

Well, considering good ol George is dead, and my grandpa isn't (that will truly be the worst day of my life), no. But they do share very simiar ideas, expect when it comes to religion.

Men virtually never take care of their hair properly. So long hair on men is nearly always gross, and every woman I've ever asked says the same.

Wait til your hair goes white/grey, then do it. You'll look pretty damn badass.

Otherwise, it's a risky situation there as generally, they don't work too well. My dad used to have waist length hair that he used to plait and trust me, it looks a thousand times better in those photos than the dreaded ponytail ones.

Some men can pull it off, On women it works well but it makes them look sort of masculine. But thats just my take on it.

On girls, absolutely.

On guys, give or take. When I have long hair, I don't particularly look good with one, but my friend looks alright with one.

You are asking at the wrong site, you should ask somewhere on a lifestyle board or the like (Reason for this should be obvious...)and provide them with images.

In general it will only work if you have very refined style in clothing and your appearance allows it; it will make you look flamboyant... (thinking of Lagerfeld).

If you're still going to school with your band shirt on and the like you can go with it anyway, nothing to loose here. If you're older you will have to settle for a short haircut one way or the other except you're working in the creative sector.
