Cat person.

Dogs are cool too, but I find their subservient, eager-to-please-ness a bit off putting.

A dog will mourn you. But a cat will eat your corpse and I respect that.

Exactly why a dog is a better pet. They actually care about people, cats are emotionless and just do their own thing

That depends on the cat. Our old family cat loved us to death. My dad talked about how when the rest of the family was out of town for a week, every night she would cry at our bedroom doors wondering where we were. When she was outside she always came running if we called her name. Whenever we sat down on the couch, she immediately wanted to sit on our laps. She really liked being around us. Same with one of our next cats. He was a stray that we took care of, and whenever he sees us outside he will run over, to the point where he recognized my car and would come running over from a few yards over when I was pulling up from work. He followed us around nonstop rubbing through our legs and wanted to cuddle. The emotionless cat thing does happen, but most cats don't do that and are just as loving, loyal, and quirky as dogs.

Cats. Although I certainly like dogs, as well. They're both company, but I think I and a cat would get along better.

In the end, it's less about a cat or a dog, as it is about what cat or dog. They're individuals, after all. With personalities and little oddities of their own. As well as their downsides. Dogs need supervision and walkies, cats spray your rugs with stomack acids.

Cats are like that party animal room mate.
They sleep all day, go out at night then come home in the early hours and wake you up because they are hungry. Occasionly they will also bring home things they 'find' too.

Dogs have also been known to save people's lives.

In conclusion cats are a bit rubbish.

Honestly... I like pets that look good on my bookshelf, not much else. I like to treat them as possessions and not companions.

Something that's hardy and impressive looking. Fun to watch moving and eating. Pets I've had that I enjoy: Tarantula, Emperor Scorpion, Garter Snake,and Praying Mantis. They don't take too much care, eat in interesting ways, and are entertaining to look at.

With all that said, I'm currently in possession of a beagle that I love very much. I wish I didn't... but I do. The little bastard has burrowed his way into my heart.

For companionship, I like to have a dog. They also make a decent early warning security system.

Where I live, though, I kind of need at least one cat to keep down local rodent populations. The dog keeps nutria from settling on my property, and occasionally kills one (she's strangely friendly with the local raccoons, though... thankfully they respect her territory)... but the cat kills mice and rats every single day. Unfortunately he also kills squirrels, chipmunks, robins, bluejays, woodpeckers, hummingbirds... on the upside he kills starlings and crows... and he defends the chickens from hawks.

Still, as much as I love my cat, I'm still more of a dog person.

...also, dogs are a lot more independent when they live outdoors on decent acreage. Dogs as house pets never made a lot of sense to me. Tends to make 'em neurotic in my experience.

Cats are cute but their independent "I don't give a fuck, i'm going to disappear for the day, don't ask questions" nature is like the opposite of what a house pet is about right?

You want your pets entire existence to revolve around the fact that you own it and not have any interests outside of you and things you approve of?

Whatever floats your boat but I find a cats independence much more appealing than most dogs fawning subservience.

Eh, depending on their breed and training background, dogs can have significantly more complex relationships with humans. The back-and-forth that you can have with a working hunting or herding dog is not a matter of absolute obedience - the dog knows more than the human at certain points, so that's always going to be a more nuanced relationship. I have a pointer, and it's wild to have an animal who so clearly studies his choices.

And even the more strictly loyal breeds have their own personality - my old pit was a fantastically well-behaved housepet, but every now and they she'd do something against the rules just because she wanted to. She also once took down a loose Ridgeback-cross dog that charged me (it was easily 3 times her size) - I didn't ask her to do it (tbh I was too shocked to do anything but stand there), she totally took the initiative on that.

Frankly even service dogs go wild in their off hours (my neighbour has a guide dog and a friend is going through the process of getting an assistance dog for her son), and even they aren't simple yes-men once their working harness comes off.

Of course cats can be useful too - barn cats keep the mouse population down, and all pets apparently lower your blood pressure, but overall I don't think you can debate that dogs have a wider range of usefulness. I certainly get that cats are easier for people in small spaces or people with religious objections to dogs, although personally I'd still go with a rabbit over a cat in those situations since they're similarly clean (use a litterbox, lick their paws, etc) but still more of a social animal.

I'm a cat person, and whenever I see a bad or evil cat it's usually because it's owners don't care for it. Cats don't instantly love you, you have to earn it which I think makes it mean more.

Not to mention cats understand people much better, my cats greet guests and if the guests likes cats they hang around. If they hate cats my cats will leave them alone. I wish my friend's dogs could sense hate and leave me alone instead of jumping on me.

I hate dogs. The ones I've been exposed to have all been nasty, smelly, slobbery, super needy messes that never shut the hell up.
And they're heavy (I dislike small dogs more than normal or big dogs).
But cats? Make sure they have some food and water and a clean litterbox and you're set.
They don;t eat much, don't beg you for food, don't slobber all over you and when they play there isn't a chance that they'll eat your face and claw out your veins.
And when its time to chill they curl up next to/on top of you and chill. Dogs? They never chill. Always energy, always hungry, always fucking barking.
I hate barking, drives me up the wall.

If anybody out there likes dogs thats fine, I'm cool with that.
But they just ain't for me.

And it fucking pains me that my family decided they wanted to suddenly become dog people after decades of cat ownership.
They don't know how to train dogs and now I'm stuck with a poorly trained, disgusting retard of an animal and a family that hates it but say they love it when I demand they get rid of it.

I have a very animal centric family, with horses, dogs, a cat and all manner of smaller creatures like rabbits and rats. I get on well with every animal I've come across, particularly cats and dogs. Other peoples cats and dogs often spend more time, and are a little quieter, with me than any other guest or their own owners.
SO I guess to answer the question, yes.

I am a cat person.

The only good cat is a dead cat. It always amuses me that cats and dogs are so commonly loved along party lines, liberal folks tend toward cats and conservatives often lean toward dogs. The irony in this is how destructive cats are to the environment.

They are worthless, take up space, and destroy furniture when they aren't being disgusting. To make matters worse, you can't even feed kittens to large lizards because they are actually poor nutrition.

I, myself, have grown sick of both. Walking dogs and chasing cats off my counters has made me a bit tired of uncaged animals, so I am sticking with lizards. They are quiet, clean, and don't stink. When I am sick of them I drop them back in their cage and they don't care. And yes, I do play Zerg.

When my English Bulldog dies, that's going to be it for a long time. I am just hoping the coyotes eat the cats before that happens. Stupid cats.

I picked Zergling, because that's the objectively correct choice whether you're a dog person or a cat person.

Buuuuuutt I'm a dog person. I'm not a fan of cats mostly because they basically don't do anything. You pretty much feed them and they'll attract some guest because of "OMG CUTE", but they don't do much else. At least with dogs they're active and you can actually tell they're there.

I'm more of a cat person - have two, litter brothers - but I'd get a dog too if I thought I had the time/energy/money/space for one. Especially as the dogs I like the look of the most are huskies and the like. Cats are way easier =P

cats are like crazy-funny ninjas who just don't give a damn about nothing, while dogs always strike me as a bit... crude; "simpletons".

Cat person. Dogs are annoying, often unpredictable and sometimes deadly. I run into both on a regular basis at work, the cats either just watch me pass or come running at me for some attention. With dogs I suppose it depends on the dog but 9/10 that I encounter are barking, smelling, aggressive creatures though perhaps its just the area I live in.

Oh and if you own a dog, especially a large one, don't tell me that:
A. Your dog isn't like other dogs and wouldn't hurt a fly.
B. Your dog just wants to play.
C. Your dog is all bark and no bite.

Especially when its actively snarling and foaming at the mouth, it amazes me how many people will be holding their dog back as it lunges at me, barking, snarling and all the crazy shit they do and yet still insist that it wont hurt me.
