I'm not a nerd cause I'm not smart like Bill Gates or Albert Einstein, and I'm not a geek cause I don't wear pointy ears to sci-fi conventions (never been to one).

I guess I'm, uhm, a gamer? No idea, never tried to "class" myself before.
Do you play video games more than casually?
Can you tell the difference between a CPU and a GPU?
Do you read/watch anime/manga?
Do you have extensive knowledge of anything technical?

If the answer is yes to any of those then you're probably a geek.
Ok, I'm a geek then^^. Oh well, I hear people think geeky girls are hot anyway, so I'm good with it.
Be proud, carry the title "geek" with honor!
Yes master^^

I'm not fully sure what i am, given that everyone has their own idea of what constitutes people as a nerd or geek. so instead of naming myself, i will give a brief idea of what i like that tends to follow those titles. and you guys can be the judge.

i love fantasy,sci-fi movies and games...but not enough to be a know-it-all or be obsessive over them. I consider myself moderately tech savvy with computer hardware, but I don't have the skills or know-how to build a pc nor do i/would i constantly talk about computer stuff or the fantasy stuff either to anyone to the point of bleeding ears. i have never been to a convention, however i have always wanted to go to Blizzcon.

I am philosophically and culturally intelligent, I am also an artist and a raver. but at the heart of it all, im a passionate gamer. so...verdict?
I see where you're coming from man. All of the stuff I talk about here is stuff I like and that interests me. But the definition of geeks/nerds is all about the level of devotion. So no, I'd put you a similar category with me. More of an enthusiast, for lack of a better word. What do you think? You agree?

Geek? Hah! I preffer the term Intellectual Badass!
But seriously,I'm probably sort of geeky, in that I'm not always going for social acceptance, but I'm not REALLY geeky or anything.

I'm just some guy. I'm not a genius, I don't have a specialist subject, I'm fucking useless with computer hardware and not a whole lot better with software, I don't collect anything, I don't give a shit about sci-fi or anime... I just spend time pissing around on the internet or playing games.

People seem to categorise me as a geek. I'm fine with that.

I'm generally known as "A Bastard" at my school, a title I am genuinely proud of, as it took years of cynicism to cultivate.

I would put myself in "Neither" since i am not very smart, but i do not concentrate on one thing. I cook and play the guitar while i play games.

To me, a nerd implies obsessiveness, and a geek implies intelligence and social ignorance. Geek is more negative imo. I don't fit into any category really, it's kind of sad to be floating aimlessly around
You consider obsessiveness as positive, but not intelligence?
Well obsessiveness with things like movies, video games, books... certainly not [sarcasm]cool things like the Dallas Cowboys or anything [/sarcasm]. I don't mean obsessiveness in the cocaine addict sense. The sad truth about intelligence is that as it goes up, happiness and sociability often goes down; I don't mean intelligence as a negative trait, I just meant calling someone a geek is almost always meant as an insult and calling someone a nerd nowadays is more of a playful (even flirtatious) thing to do.
Geek/Nerd is always a weird thing. I've met loads of people who would happily identify as being "geeky" in respect to a certain interest, but I don't know anyone who would admit to being nerdy, since nerd is almost totally negative.

Although nerds used be pretty cool sweets.

I'm a bit of a nerd, but my social skills are fine, even though I don't surround myself with hundreds of "friends", wear my pants around my knees, and try and act like a "gangsta". Basically, it all comes down to what you define a "nerd" as.

Er neither. I have some qualities of both, but I also have qualities of many other cliques. I'm pretty much just the average guy at the end of the day.

So people who play Guitar Hero and Rock Band more than casually in order to get better at them so when they're invited to the sorority house they can use those games to get laid...are they geeks?

And knowing the difference between a CPU and a GPU if you own a PC is called not being a complete fucking retard. Knowing what you own so you know how to fix it (or at least who to call to fix it and not letting yourself get ripped off---computers are, in many ways, like cars nowadays) is not being a geek.

As for anime/manga, I can't stand that shit, so maybe I'm even less geek/nerd than I'm often accused of being.

Notice how I stuck "probably" in there.

By the way, I can't stand anime or manga either, I hate them.

Yes, I totally agree. cause I'm not really obsessed with anything. only passionate or enthusiastic. so that about sums it up.
