Nope, I ignore achievements. Their pretty pointless to me.
As for why?
I don't see any point.
Any achievement I gain from the game in my own entertainment and I'm far more likely to get that through playing through an interesting story, or enjoyable competition etc.
Mindlessly collecting things, or doing random obscure tasks for no reason other then to get a random message saying I did it serves no purpose.

I'm at trophy level 12 (89%), With over 1000 trophies, and 2, soon to be three platinums. (God Of War 3, Modern Warfare 2 & Batman: Arkham Asylum)

What do you think?

Yes. I have a lovefilm subscription dedicated to games with easy trophies. I currently have 24 platinums. Help me.

Not at all. Far too many achievements in games are simply time consuming to get with little gameplay fun associated with them. Kill # of X with weapon Y for example is just padding for a game. Civ 5 has you build hundreds of buildings to earn certain achievements, Fable 2 would have you own every building in the world. These things I never try to accomplish nor do I care if I do as they are simply an achievement proving how much repetition you could tolerate.

That said, I love that achievements exist. There are some achievements in games that give you a goal to strive for and are fun along the way.

An example of good achievements are some within Starcaft 2's single player campaign. Two that come to mind are beating a level within a given time frame, or ensuring you beat a level before a certain number of regions become captured (thus changing your play style entirely to succeed).

The poll is pretty poor, man. I do enjoy getting achievements and I often hunt the down to help me get more out of the game. Achievements for completing the game on a higher difficulty or seeing different endings are extra incentive to play through it again. I also like, in RPGs like Fallout 3, where you get achievements for completing quests because it encourages you to see everything (on top of you just wanting to because it's all so awesome).

I only go for 100% if I enjoy the game. I see it as some extra challenges that makes the game last longer.

But there was a time when I went for achievements just to get achievements.... Like legendary alone on Halo:Reach, and I'm not really a Halo fan...

I'll admit when I only had two easy achievements left in Portal I played through again to get them (the extra long jump and removing the cameras).

But otherwise I either ignore them completely (single-player games) or I mostly blunder into them without realizing (multiplayer).

Hell yes. I absolutely love trophies - they encourage me to experience a game to its fullest extent, which, in my opinion, is a good thing. As an example, I'm not a huge fan of multiplayer, but as a result of most games having trophies related to multiplayer, I end up playing that mode anyway, and in some cases end up having quite a bit of fun with it (Bioshock 2 would be a good example). I'm on the verge of getting my 25th platinum (Batman: Arkham Asylum), and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

However, one thing I won't do is go out and buy a game just to get the trophies - I feel that is flat-out stupid. Another thing I won't do is let myself get bothered by the fact that many games don't read "100%" completed after getting the platinum trophy due to DLC. If I really enjoyed the game, then by all means, I'll download the DLC. However, in the case of games such as Black Ops, Bioshock 2, or Resident Evil 5, I'll be damned if I'm going to pay anymore for what were incredibly average games in the first place.

To answer the OP's question, this is what I did with MW2: play through the game on normal difficulty the first time around, picking up what achievements I can. The second run will be the difficulty-based, collectibles run. As for the Spec Ops challenges, those will be played on Veteran the first time around. They're meant to be challenges, after all.

I actually had an argument with someone on this subject. She was insistent if she could not get 100% on her games, which would deem them unworthy of purchase. Our cross stemmed from her wanting achievements to be easily acquired, like for instance, leaving the Insanity difficulty in Mass Effect 2 as it is, whereas I wanted it improved so the AI was competent and challenging in lieu of merely tossing an extra few health bars on them. She found this unfair because than she wouldn't be able to get "Completed on Insanity" achievement. Thus is should be just "Complete game."

In any case, I couldn't care less about achievements for the most part. There are a few games I will get competitive for and I do enjoy the ring whenever I unlock something but alas, it is far from why I play the game. I measure a successful purchase on my enjoyment, not a gimmick.

I do finish the game. Achievements are just meta things bolted on at the end to make the game seem longer than it is. I don't buy into that.

If the answer for you is no, I want to know why you don't see the point in getting 100% completion out of a game when you've paid for it.
Because that's like asking "why u no go under all levels and superjump in Halo2 when u paid for it?". Simply because I don't care if I've done something a certain way. What's more is, that some things I've done I'm really proud of, or like, but nobody gives me an "achievement" for that. Sometimes I even do things and they're not recorded.

Finally Achievements are *shudder* console things.

Yeah, i like achievements. I can see if people are worth playing co-operatively with before i start a game with them. I can judge how much i'm going to end up carrying them by the end :p

It makes it harder for people to lie about what they've done and it also punishes people for cheating. It also means people can't deny what i've done aswell :p

The only negative i've noticed is when people go all out for overall score using guides to minimize game times. I'm all for using guides to pick up obscure achievements after the game is finished but not on the first playthrough...its kinda self defeating

I can't see any reason for people to moan about them though

Not really, if I've finished a game which I've really enjoyed then I might go back to it and see if I can get the other achievements. I think the only game I've ever gotten 100% achievements on is Pac Man CE: DX although you can do that in about 20 minutes.

I'm not so much a hoarder but I do enjoy getting the 100% out of the game. Unless I have to go multiplayer... I hate hearing other people's shrill little voices screaming and bantering. MY GAWD!

It's also the idea that they're little challenges in a game that could be completed. Unless they're not a challenge then I don't usually bother.
