Yeah, no... Granted, nowadays, I'm more excited about any upcoming Star Wars series (Lego or otherwise), so...

Plus, I don't binge on Star Wars... and I think that helps, in my opinion...

Not really. I'm not hyped up for the new ones coming out, but I don't mind that they exist and if they are good I will watch them. I am definitely past the point in my life where I feel the need to get worked up over a media's existence. Twilight? Not my thing by far, but it's cool if you like it. Justin Bieber? That's fine. Bayformers? No skin off my back if that's what you enjoy. Attack on Titan? I don't like it, but I won't make a thread to discuss if it's overrated garbage (which it isn't, even if I don't like it).

I wish there was a "Getting There" option, so I went with depends. I've been a lifelong fan and I'll say that Star Wars, including (to a degree) the prequels, shaped my taste in SciFi and all other fiction.

What is driving me away is that asshat JJ Abrams. All these teases and leaks from the new movie, with nothing substantial to get excited about, are saturating the internet and wearing out what should be my excitement a year before the movie is out. I don't want to know everything that happens in the movie, I just want to get a proper feel for what is going on and how much of the movie will be corrupted influenced by Abrams.

I enjoy Star Wars but I am not a super fan. I don't watch the movies on a regular basis not read or watch any of the books/comics/TV shows etc.

I do enjoy it though, Especially the games. KOTOR is my favourite RPG game ever and #3 favourite game of all time (behind the two N64 Zelda games) and Star Wars 1313 looked awesome (shame about its cancellation) and I am pretty excited for Star Wars Battlefront. I'll definitely see the new films when they come out but I won't have a 'nerdgasm' when a lightsaber gets drawn.

I'd have to agree with others that Star Wars is incredibly ubiquitous but how much of it you choose to consume is up to you.

I can understand being exasperated at seeing it everywhere in "nerd culture" but on the other hand that is a bit like being tired of seeing crosses in a Church. Since "nerd culture" is really all about marketers cynically driving the conflation of "nerds" personal identities with brands and products[footnote]By manipulating nostalgia to tie warm fuzzy feelings of happier times directly to particular products/brands. Something Disney did by adapting beloved fairy tales like Snow White then by rehashing its own original characters to successive generations that grew up on them.

Or by Stan Lee's old approach of pretending to speak directly to and sympathize with the young consumer on a personal level. Or some combination of the two methods.[/footnote] to insure near-mindless consumer loyalty to the point of worship. And Disney is the original king of this kind of psychological exploitation of consumers.

That said I love the original trilogy, rented them all as a kid and Return is still my favorite. (Ewoks are fun I don't care what anybody says.) Rewatch them probably every 3 - 5 years. Looking forward to the eventual re-release of the theatrical versions on Blu-Ray and DVD so I can stop having to watch the movies on VHS, since I refuse to suffer through any of Lucas's later "enhancements". I've seen all the prequels but not in close to a decade now. Definitely have gotten the most entertainment from those later films via RedLetterMedia's artful eviscerations.

I've enjoyed some tie-in material but mostly just wacky Marvel comics from the 1980s. Some of the video games are good, most aren't. Could never get into KOTOR because after first going through ME 1, 2 and Jade Empire it felt like I was literally just playing the same game a 4th time only with a somehow even shittier combat system.

I'm mildly curious to see what the new movies and new expanded universe come out with. But in terms of my hype/interest meter anything Star Wars related is dwarfed by my anticipation of things like the November release of the 1960s Batman on home video.

Overly marketed to pure annoyance. Overly referenced to pure annoyance.

I will go see the new one for the same reason I seen Godzilla.. To verify it's just a nostalgia pull military movie that takes no chances and rides on the back of work done decades before.

Can't wait to see my 12 year old cousin asleep on his dads obscenely large belly wearing hundreds of dollars in star wars memorabilia at christmas...

With the prequels being the train wreck they are, I find it hard to be even remotely invested in anything Star Wars.
The classic trilogy was some fun fantasy adventure, but I think it became too popular for it's own good, and it now spends too much time wallowing in itself and the things it did, instead of telling more fun adventures.

It's like a little kid telling the same joke over and over again, each time saying it louder, hoping to make you laugh again.
Eventually he just keeps screaming the punchline over and over again, losing any pretense of structure or timing, and you wonder if you should end it yourself or should just let him explode.

I'm sick of all the remaking of old popular franchises in general. I'd rather they are all forced to come up with their own stuff, even if it's a very close resemblance.

Sick? No, not really.
Completely uninterested? I'm getting there.

I was never a big fan of SW (though I've had toys and games based on it, being born in '77). And I was slightly exited for the prequels. These new films do nothing for me, I just don't care any more.

two of the best movies ive seen, one really good one, three more flawed but entertaining ones, and several of the best video games ive ever played.

no, im not sick of Star Wars. it will have been a decade since the last SW film, and there hasnt been a really good (non-LEGO) SW game for nearly as long.

Both yes and no. Sick of Star Wars in and of itself? No, not really, I think it's solid, if a bit weird, but it's a child of its age and thus a bit quirky. It's nice, it's solid and it has a certain appeal to it, in the kind of "I like Dungeons & Dragons, but now if only it was a more sci-fi-ish setting", which I most certainly subscribe to every now and then. My issue isn't with Star Wars... It's with everything surrounding Star Wars. I come from the Roleplaying community, which means that whenever you mention Science Fiction, everyone's head instantly goes "BING! Star Wars", which means that if I ever go to a convention and ask "Are there any science fiction scenarios?" I will instantly be told "There's Star Wars in room so-and-so" and I will hang my head dejectedly and sigh. So there. I don't mind Star Wars. I just don't like the fact that it has more or less codified everything Science Fiction within roleplaying

IQuarent said:
The topic header explains my concern adequately, but I will expound.

As a member of Generation Y, Star Wars has been the bees knees, so to speak, ever since I was a kid. My parents showed my brothers and I the first three films before anything else Star Wars related, at first assuring us that "it was an old movie, and we probably wouldn't like it", the clever bastards.

Considering that the originals were made way, way before I was born, I think it's safe to say that the prequels were more relevant to my upbringing. At the time, I was too young to really judge them on their own merits, so they blended into the chaotic memories that are the rest of my childhood. In retrospect, I would consider them just mediocre, not particular terrible. HOWEVER! This thread is not meant to be a prequels vs. original series thread, so please, please, PLEASE don't turn it into one. But to be the example to follow, I would say that Star Wars had a modest effect on me as I grew up, and my expectations for what fiction was and was not.

However, after years and years of media exposure, marketing, spin-offs, fan-fiction, and various products, and am just tired of it. I don't have any enthusiasm or hatred for it at all anymore. I just don't care. I have no interest in seeing any new products or games concerning it. I had a lot of fun with Star Wars Battlefront back when the PS2 was riding high, and I will probably watch the prequels again some time in the near future if/when I feel like it, but other than that, it's just white noise.

But here is the part I really want other's views on: The new movies coming out.

As I said, I am very apathetic to anything "New" out of the Star Wars universe at this point, which means I am neither looking forward to them nor resent their existence. I have no interest in seeing them and won't unless someone tells me they are really, really good.

I'm curious what others think of this. Are you as sick of Star Wars as I am? Do you care about the new movies coming out at all? When did you become disillusioned with Star Wars, and if not, what is powering your enthusiasm?

While resentment is understandable, let's check our rage at the door, please.

Thanks guys.
I didnt vote because your poll is heavily skewed towards the negative. Aside from that, if you dont like it or are tired of Star Wars then by all means, that is your choice. I, however, love Star Wars... and always will. It has had a huge impact on my life, ever since I saw the first Star Wars.... before it was even called "A New Hope". So thats been... almost 37 years since I first saw that Star Destroyer going across the big screen, and I have been a diehard fan ever since.

Not at all.

I'm of the mind set that there can never be too much of something in terms of tv/movies/games. Much like Star Trek, Star Wars has an interesting world with seemingly endless storytelling possibilities.

I loved the following Star Wars stuff:
- Episode 4 & 5
- Kotor 1

I liked the following Star Wars stuff:
- Episode 1 & 3 & 5
- The Clone Wars television series
- Kotor 2
- SW:TOR
- Shadows of the Empire

I hated the following Star Wars stuff:
- Pretty much any of the games not listed here most notably the SNES and PC entries I've played (never played battlefront)
- Episode 2
- Ewoks cartoon
- Droids cartoon

The rest I either hated, disliked or simply haven't checked out (any of the novels for example).

All told...the series has done a lot of good since the original trilogy even though it's never lived up to the original experience. Episodes 7, 8 and 9 could all be horrendous and I wouldn't be upset or think any less of content that came before it.

So yeah...bring on Episode 7. I'm not personally hyped about it yet but I fully intend to check it out on DVD down the road. If it actually receives praise I may even drag myself to the theater to check it out.

Kinda. Star Wars is high up on my list of franchises that, while I have enjoyed them, I think they need to be put to death.

I want to see the new movies. If they're good, they're good. If not, I will probably have fun mocking them mercilessly. Especially if SPACE HAAAAAAAAND is involved. I really want space hand.

Not really, even though I tend to only be all that interested in the parts of Star Wars that have Force Users in them. In fact, I think there's been a lot of wasted potential with Star Wars. I mean, it wasn't until VERY recently that there's been any real attempt at a TV show, and that was a couple animated shows about the Clone Wars rather than about the Star Wars galaxy at large. Star Trek on the hand has several movies and TV shows plus an expanded universe of it's own on the side, all of which go pretty deeply into what life is like in that universe. As a result, the Star Wars universe feels kinda incomplete to me.

I'm sick of most franchises, honestly. That's something I really hate about American cinema. We just parade the same uninspired shit out every year. That's probably why I don't watch much film anymore.

Oh well, at least I have Les Mis: Fully Loaded to look forward to in a few years.
