I take extreme pride in being not homophobic. It's ridiculous that homosexuals are so terribly unaccepted in this day and age. Makes me mad.

Don't let pride poison you! Being a bit more serious, is it so wrong to not want to know what they get up to? It's exactly the same for anyone, of any race or gender or age. I am only talking about them because this is what this thread is revolving around.

I've seen a lot of people on here say "Well, as long as they're not gay acting around me" or "as long as they don't cram it down my throat or shove it in my face".

I'm really getting tired of this contradiction, no one tells women to stop acting too feminine or masculine while they're around other girls, so why should effeminite men not act the way they are just because some people might find it uncomfrotable?

Amen to that! People aren't going to be pounced on just because they happen to be the same gender of somebody who is gay! That is a...well it's not even intelligent thinking to begin with. I find it mildly disconcerting that some amorous women like to try it on a bit strong with us guys, yet I don't find myself shouting from the rooftops in protest about it.

Some of the remarks similar to this regarding how guys are frightened/defensive/attitude-fuelled on how they could be chatted up by someone who happens to be gay or bi is not just a little unnerving but kinda a deplorable mindset.
I'd have much MUCH bigger issues about some overly heterosexual guy trying it on with my girlfriend than ever have any level of "fear" of anybody of a homosexual nature trying it on with me.
I'd prefer to hang with decent and friendly open-minded people (regardless of their sexuality) than someone who is straight and prefers to shove that down people's throats all the time, not giving one whit to who they happen to insult in the vicinity.

I think a big problem is that some people ARE bigoted against gays but they have no idea that what they're doing is bigoted. There's more to it than seething hatred.

The classic example is guys who simply cannot understand that making comments that are along the lines of 'because you're a lesbian I'm going to put you in my lesbian fantasies and now I'm telling you about it' are in fact bigoted. Or telling a gay woman she can't be gay because she likes baking pie or telling a gay man he can't be gay because he's not a fashionista.

My favorite one that I get (I fall into the lesbian category) is telling me that I can't be gay because I'm 22 and am still a virgin. Also that my non-religious chastity ring is a lie (it says 'if you want to get into my pants you have to vow eternity'). Because clearly gay and slut are mutually inclusive.

Sorry to turn this into a mini-rant, but these people are FAR more irritating than the people who openly hate. Particularly the 'putting you in my fantasies' guys because CLEARLY they can't be homophobic because they have all the versions of Girls Gone Wild at home! Objectifying me clearly isn't bigoted at all. Assholes.

I don't know if men know the lesbians in their fantasies are usually not real lesbians, but will happily make out with another girl to turn men on. It's strange how their is two different lesbian stereotypes, the 'oh, these sexy, slim, big boobed girls making out' and the 'manly, short hair, tattoos and men clothes.' It's just a stereotype though, so it's bullshit. Same goes with girls who don't feel comfortable around lesbian girls in case they fancy them, but find two cute boys kissing to be hot.

Perhaps I misunderstood you - if you act the same way about straight couples making out, with "keep it to yourself", then it isn't homophobic. Otherwise it is. Far from extreme, but still, a little bit.

While I have my religious beliefs, I have no problem being around or interacting with homosexuals. I believe it's a poor lifestyle choice, but that's the most minor of inconveniences. A bigger one at the moment is my promisccuous straight friend constantly making fun of how I used to be bisexual.

I could care less about the sexual preferences of other people, so no. what I cant stand is someone who wont shut up about their sexuality, and relates everything back to it. joking around is fine, but when someone's whole life is centered around their sexuality it can be wearying.

According to the gay werewolf couple I saw, that's still homophobic. They weren't all that happy when I pointed out that my objection to their relationship was on grounds of species, not sexuality - apparently I was being racist?

actually, thats sort of the main point in christianity. yeah, it kinda sucks that a lot of christians ignore it, and have in the past.

1. I said nothing about them being unnatural.
2. Everyone (myself included) has sinned. So therefor if I called someone morally depraved I would be calling myself morally depraved. You can be moral and yet sin, however I would not tell a gay person "being gay is a sin" because what does that mean to a non-Christian, nothing.
I try to treat everyone the same showing all people love and respect.

What possible logical reason could you have to be afraid of/hate gay people? Of course, you might not like watching it, but if you've ever seen one of those disgusting het couples that stands in the middle of a public area and start chewing on each other's faces, that's much worse (and much more gross) than two dudes holding hands.
Then again, there's the flamers, i.e the kind you just wanna slap. Being gay is a sexual orientation, not an excuse to be a freak. And I know plenty of gay guys and gals who *don't* resort to stereotypes, thank you very much.

tl:dr: No reason to be afraid of or hate gay people, but I can understand if people consider themselves homophobic because they hate flaming stereotypes.

You are, however, assuming it's a choice for everyone. Just because you had bisexual leanings at one point (most people have at one point or another), doesn't mean that people who actually are bisexual/homosexual choose to be like that.

Plus, how is it a "lifestyle"? You don't say that straight people have a "heterosexual lifestyle" do you? I'm bi, but I don't let it affect how I live my life other than who I happen to find attractive.

I'm not homophobic; I have many gay, bi and lesbian friends.
What I don't like is when it?s thrown in my face. Just to clarify I don't care if a gay or les couple is doing ?couple stuff? (holding hands, kissing ect) what I mean is the ones who act like the sexuality is their only defining feature and feel the need to announce it everywhere or act like they belong to a special group because their homosexual. What you like in the bedroom is your own businesses not mine and I don?t see why it?s so important.

The of course there are the ones who take offense at everything and always assume any negative reaction you have to them is because of their sexuality. "You just don't like me because I?m gay!" uh no, I don?t like you cause you?re a fucking dick. But then the same goes for anyone who classifies themselves as part of a 'group' (emo, goth, prep and whatnot)
I use to know a girl who kept groping me all the time and then was all shocked when a punched her for it (I did give her fair warning, I?m generally very non confrontational but she had been groping me all day). She then proceeded to scream at me and call me homophobe. For obvious reasons I?m not going to let a guy keep groping me so why the hell would a let a girl do the same?
