Nope. I went to a Church of England Primary school, where they force religion onto you from your first year onwards. I just thought it sounded weird. Then I read up on science. And it explained everything a lot better than the vicar did.

I was religious as child until I spent a year in CoE primary school. I slipped, without noticing, from mildly religious to hardcore atheist.

Religion is pretty damn silly if you look at it from an objective standpoint.

so are alot of things humans do, like art or music, no logical point but we do them anyway

I'm christian, friends with a wide variety of people like athiests, buddhist, i come from a very tolerant part of the u.k where (well at school anyway) the religions (or athiests or agnostics) seem to get along

Well yes, you are indeed correct, mostly why I said there would be at least an argument for it at that point. It would as you say become a new branch of science as we learn more about it.

My point to the theists is usualy just to get back to me with the repeatable, demonstrable evidence and we can talk more. ;p

Kinda shames me that while a few of my friends actually thought it was bullshit, for every one of them, three went full on religious-whackjob.

That school claimed my little sister to their numbers as well.

I'm not a full on "god isn't real and you people who believe in him and fools" type I do believe in each to their own.

I respect that a person can hold to certain beliefs and find comfort in them. I also respect that some people don't (seeing as I don't).

I can't really give a good reason as to why not all I know is it started as a child. We did religious education at primary school (or kindergarten if you're American and reading this) and a lot of the stories they told us were so full of holes and contradictions that it just never took my interest.

I can't blame my parents, my mum is a Cypriot with a very religious family and my dad is Irish Catholic (a mum from Cyprus and a dad from Ireland and they move to fucking Britain ... "lets move to where the sun is ..... or not, lets go to Britain and torture our child") but anyway yeah, my parents both have very strong beliefs.

They never forced it onto us though which i'm grateful for as I said it's just not something that interests me. Neither me, my brother or my sister hold to any faith.

But, like I said, I do respect those that do follow a religion so don't take this as me claiming i'm better than you or that your faith is meaningless that couldn't be further from the truth/

Sure, except the burden of proof argument doesn't work when dealing with apparently non-falsifiable things. That is, normally the burden of proof works in day to day life, but with regards to things like "the creation of the universe" or other things which we will never observe nor really affect us, it is required that acknowledge that the evidence is lacking for both claims of existence and non-existence.

I'm not trying to convince you that my religion is right by any means, I'm just trying to show that the burden-of-proof argument isn't as perfect as some atheists think it is.

Well let me use an example: I have an intangable, invisible, undetectable box which creates all gravity in the universe (also its purple!). Do you ask me to prove it or belive me untill somone else shows I am incorrect? That is how the claims of religion seem to me.

It is a hot topic I understand, and I honestly do appreciate that you arn't trying to convert me at all. If you wish to belive in a god, that is your right as a human, for any reason you wish. As long as it isn't pushed onto others or into laws to punish others, then you and I will have no problems.

My brian is just "wired" if you will, in such a way that in order for me to belive the big claims of religion I need repeatable, demonstrable evidence.

I'm an atheist. I'm far too much of a skeptic (and cynic) to subscribe to any religious beliefs. Though I don't really hate religion. I believe it essentially a tool: it isn't inherently good or evil, but it can be used for both purposes.

I think religious faith is stupid and illogical. not that it doesn't have its uses, I just think its untrue. ive never been able to believe it, even if i wanted to. i can't blot out logic, I live in the real world. anyway, i've been able to completely come to terms with saying that after I die, that will be the end.
