Poll: Are you religious?

Christian (catholic), not practicing. Meaning I like the moral stance, but don't care with much fairy tales in the Bible or the Church hierarchies behind it.

I'm probably not different from any kind of moderate christian worldwide, who aside of denominations believe in the basics and leave the absurd details to the fundies.

I am, but I don't like telling that to atheists. (Most of the time) Whenever I do, they give me this smug, your an idiot look, and then they have the nerve to criticise my intelligence and try to convince me that I'm just stupid, and that God is a fairytale.

So, just because I think that there may be something more to this world, and that maybe not everything is just a big coincidence, that immediately means that my IQ drops by 80 does it?

Not as irritating as douchebag atheists but close, are the religious nutbags. You know, the ones that would turn away their own child for being gay, would freak out if their child was friends with a "non believer" or they try to force their religion onto every person they know.

Basically I hate intolerannce from both sides, it sickens me to see so much disrespect amoung them.

(Oh yeah, I think the most irritating comments that can be made from either party, is when they say something like. "Oh don't get me wrong, I respect Religion/Atheism, I just feel sorry for them, they are so ignorant if only they could open their eyes and understand the truth." If anybody here is doing that, religious or atheist, stop it, its ridiculously childish and in the end your just being an massive douche.)

I don't care if people want to believe in it, but when they try to force it on children or into the public, then I have a problem.

I am an atheist. My mom's family is Catholic, my biological father's is Methodist, and my Stepdad's is Southern Baptist.

I decided a long time ago that if I were to worship, he is going to need to get off his cloud in the sky and actively recruit me. If he, she or it does not do it because "he does not want to," or any other lame excuse, then he, she or it is not worth my time. To that end, I have a 7 part test that I keep in my head at all times. All the deity needs to do is cause everything on the list to happen in a reasonably short amount of time, like 3 months after the first one. If the god or goddess does that, then I will worship him. Otherwise, I will not.

By having a test for a supposed deity, and demanding that they comply with it, aren't you basically admitting that deity must exist? It has to, in order to decide to fulfill or not fulfill your requests.

Possibly the dumbest thing I have heard (in a while). Just replace that idea with anything else:

I say, "If a magical unicorn that craps gold exists, he must dance to me in order for me to believe."

The way I see it, religion for me is a way of seeing how well my friends can take a joke. If they're religious, I'll crack God jokes. Atheist, I make science jokes. I don't think I fall too squarely into either camp. I focus heavily on the science aspect of things, but I'll admit there's some things science can't explain. So, simply put, I'm not religious, but on the off chance I'm wrong, I hope I haven't pissed off the big guy too much.

Alright, i gotta respond to this, i hope my comment wasn't taken in the wrong light, like i said not all and again it seems just my city, again sorry if offended you or anyone.

Now i hate when people use these arguments. First off of course I'll be fucking sad when a loved one dies, even though there probably ballin it up in heaven chilling and getting a hug from god. There still gone, they still died, they were still taken from this earth so of course we'll be sad.

If your best friend say for like 20 years said there moving far far away you'll never see them again and they cant call you or use phones but its there dream come true, you'll still be sad. So cut it out with that garbage, when i had a loved one die i mourned of course i did why wouldn't i she was still a kid!? but deep down and to this day i know shes in a much better place, shes fine shes up in the sky looking down on me and shes happy that even though I'll never forget her, I'll never be sad anymore that shes gone cause all that will do is make her sad so theres no point. So enough with that same quote.

Secondly, life here is still great, we were given life by our savior why would we squander the greatest gift hes given us? That would be an insult. He gave us the greatest gift of all which is life so why on fucking earth would we give that up!? Its like being served dinner an amazing feast Turly cranberrys fish, potatoes but dessert if your favorite cake and you just throw all the food over the table and say i want my fucking dessert not this garbage.

Now comparisons aside the other reason is, intentionally doing something like that would be in a sense killing ourselves, Our life's are not ours to take. When you let him into your heart its no longer just yours...

This was at the age of 9 btw.
Yes I became an atheist all on my own at the young age of 9. I'm actually quite proud of this.

I was about to post something like this. Well then....yeah that. You pretty much nailed what I was gonna post. I think the bandwagon effect is the reason for so many douchebags being produced on both sides. it kills freedom of thought. I've met some atheists and "atheists". The ones you are talking about don't even know why they are what they think they want to be, they just go with whatever fad is in at the time. Same applies to religious folk or nutbags as you so accurately called them. Humans are gregarious beings by nature but when you let others do the thinking for you and you just ride the big wave, that's taking things too far in my opinion.
Actual atheists aren't so bad to talk to. I know one or two. They do give out a smile but then I try to make my point and we get to talk without either party feeling smug.

So why not just skip the whole Earth thing and let his creations all just live happily in heaven? This is what doesn't make any sense to me(among other things). Sure Earth could be a test. But why make humans imperfect and flawed and capable of even thinking of doing wrong or not believing in god. Why would you give them the opportunity to fail? Why wouldn't you make their brains default to believing in god so that little tribes all over the world who have never heard of Christianity (or whatever other religion that says all people who don't follow their religion go to the bad place) don't get banished to hell with absolutely no chance of even knowing what they did wrong?
See this is what I just don't get the most. IMO, either God isn't real or he certainly is not good.
I don't mean to debate religion I try to go with the whatever floats your boat attitude but I have always been curious about what a religious person would say to this and I would never ask this of a really religious person outside the internet because the only ones I know are family members and they would hate me if I let slip that I'm not religious. (These are outside the main family, my mom, dad, and sister are all agnostic.).
So again, I'm not trying to shake your faith or anything (I highly doubt some random opinion on the internet would be able to do that) I'm just really curious to see how religious people answer my above rant.
