Half these people didn't read the question properly.

I chose Attractive and Stupid. Why? Because being stupid is sometimes awesome. How?

Forrest Fucking Gump.
Also, Caboose. He's dumb but adorable.

Well, that depends on what you mean by smart.

There are many different kinds of intelligences. Analytical, verbal, visual-spatial, interpersonal, intro-personal, kinesthetic, and abstract are the most predominant areas of intelligence from what I've read. Most people have 1 or 2 areas of intelligence that they excel at, but it seems that everybody can develop different intelligences with appropriate training (Except maybe abstract, which involves finding relationships between unrelated things. How do you train that?)

If you say "attractive and dumb", the attractive part is pretty clear, but the dumb part isn't. A lot of people who have a hard time with things like math and reading excel at sports and are good at working with people. The inverse is often true as well; I assume this is the dichotomy you're referring to. In this case, I'd probably go with "attractive and dumb", because being handsome and charming and being good at influencing people is a highly valuable set of attributes, even if you have trouble understanding technical subjects.

However, if you mean dumb in the sense that you're a person who just has trouble learning anything, whether it's how or how to find an anti-derivative or how to get somebody to be your friend, then I would definitely go with "ugly and smart". You might not get a lot of respect for your looks if you're 5'4", 225 lbs, balding, and have a big nose, but if you're good at learning how to do things, I think that would more than make up for deficiencies in the looks department.

My current state is, I've been told, slightly better than average looks, and average intelligence.

However, physical attraction is vety important to me, so I would choose to be Attractive but not so clever if I had to.

Smart and ugly.
Early on in life I would be shunned for my hideously deformed features, so much so that my own family disavows me for the shame of having wrought unto this world such a terror.
The abandonment would in turn drive me into the sewers as a means to shield me from the scorn of the "abovedwellers." Hidden in the depths of the city I shall let my hatred for all of the beautiful people fester inside me.
This mixed with soul-crushing loneliness would turn me mad and force me to seek bloody vengeance upon the land above which had so wronged me.
Using my great intelligence I will begin developing a race of mutant cannibal sewer monsters to be my loyal servants. It will be difficult at first for my grotesque form requires that I attain all of my supplies in the dark of night. Once the supplies are sufficiently procured though, it will only be a matter of time until my gene sequencing cloning device is sending out a constant stream of monsters almost as malformed as I.
Once this step is completed, I will take my unrelenting, ceaseless, tireless army to the land of the sun.
Heroes will rise and fall, the bloodshed will change the oceans red! A scarlet sun will rise on a new world. A WORLD RULED BY ME!

Smart and ugly, no question. I already am smart and I enjoy that, but while I try not to look ugly I'm not really concerned with my appearance, and am not trying to attract a mate.

Smart and ugly.

What's the point of a life without true passions, without introspection or real depth? A shallow life is pleasant, but without meaningful comprehension it can never be truly rewarding.

Plus, what's the point of being popular if you can't like Firefly?

Or Smoke and Mirrors?

...And you have to like Twilight?

The thing is, life is much easier for pretty people. And plastic surgery can only do so much...

Attractive and dumb. Honestly, I'm moderately intelligent and of average looks, and I'd prefer being extremely attractive - life would be more fun, simply put.

I'd rather be smart and ugly, but I voted attractive and dumb because I was SO sure this thread would be about what you'd rather in your partner.

See my partner can be attractive and dumb because I will provide for her, as I am a man, and men provide. She can cook and read Twilight, I'll work hard and read real books.

Yeah I am sexist. I am old fashioned. Sue me.

Depends what kind of dumb you mean.

If you mean 'lack of intellectual capabilities' then I pick beautiful and dumb. Because I am not very intellectual now, never have been, so it wouldn't make much difference in my life.

If you mean the 'ignorant/lack of any common sense or life knowledge' kind of dumb, then I'm not sure what I would pick... I would like to think I would pick smart and ugly.. But something tells me I would rather live in ignorance and be beautiful (afterall, ignorance is bliss) and my looks are very important to me, if I'm being honest.

Myself, probably smart and ugly. smart enough to trick people anyway

Picking someone to live with: Attractive and dumb, its like starting with a blank slate! You can get them into what you like and no stupid arguments die to clashes of opinion, seeing as only you will actually have an opinion

Smart and ugly, 'cos it'd make a perfect match for me :(

For me, smart and ugly, nothing changes.
