You don't know what boring is until you live in a tiny village in the middle of the Dutch Bible Belt, and I'm actually looking into moving to Australia.

Australia is awesome! I can't stand idly by while the country I live in/love is paid out! What's wrong with it? You've got such a huge diveristy in landscape, we have everything from perfect sunny weather with beaches that stretch for kilometers in Queensland, rugged desert in the NT, huge expanses of surf coast along Victoria, ski resorts in NSW, some of the worlds most famous wine regions in SA. We're still a relatively small country population wise and have room to move, we're well liked amongst the international community, for our size we're awesome at sport and we're isolated! No rabies or silly diseases like that!

Australia is a very laid back place, where we're still not afraid to laugh at ourselves and appreciate a good joke. It's a country where we love all of the finer things in life, hence why alcohol is such a cultural icon and horse racing is the countries third largest industry. There's nothing wrong with us! I'm offended by anyone who suggests otherwise!

That's...awesome.

OP:Did you seriously complain about not having enough wars/financial meltdowns?

Other things you forgot to mention:

Micheal Atkinson
Box Jellyfish
Great White Sharks
I hate Michael Atkinson.

How far apart, how often has something of that magnitude or interest come about in the 200 years of almost nothing stuff.

We have no history? Try look up some aboriginal history, there is alot of history to this country, well before Europeans came here.

No interesting geography or flora/fauna, only dust? Have you even looked outside your backyard? There is desert, there is bushland, there is also rain-forest areas and mountains.

We can't defend ourselves? Yes we might get most of our arms from foreign countries, but we also have some of the best trained military in the world, and alot of allies, you would be stupid to attack Australia.

Not to be mean, but I honestly can't tell if you're trolling, or just ignorant. I guess if you spent 8 years ignoring the majority of the country you would think it was boring, just open your eyes and there is alot more to see and do.

Why do you think it is such a popular place for tourists, despite everything that will kill you, it's an awesome country.

Hang on, you think Australia has never had a bloody war and that such a thing is bad? Not only is that wrong it's stupid. We have a population of 21-2 million and have exsisted for around 100 years, Having a history takes time, and that ours isn't filled with as much death as others I consider to be a plus.

You need to pay more attention in history class kid, because you clearly don't know much about our history.

EDIT: Australia 200 years old? You are a moron.

Why the hell are you complaining about there not being enough death and destruction in Australia? Life is not a video game, destruction is NOT COOL in real life, this seems like the complaints of someone detached from the real world. Natural disasters and war are not for amusement, they are unfortunate events.

Seriously so you want to us to be known as War Mongers who just try and start wars with everyone that is just ridiculous. What Part of Australia do you live in because there is plenty to do in Australia.

Australia is a young country we don't really want civil wars or anything like that over here, you can go outdoors and you know, do things such as rock-climbing, paintballing and all these kind of things.

and about the whole war machine i.e. we don't create weapons and anything like that, ever heard of Metal Storm in Queensland they have been designing weapons for years and have recently created a turret that shoot ONE MILLION bullet per minute, nah we dont ever do ANYTHING over here, explore the country a bit more.

I'm pretty sure every other Australian in the Escapist will disagree with you.

Weapons: see metalstorm
animals: are you fucking kidding?
TV: right for the most part, but stuff like Underbelly, and comedy shows like Good News Week

just coz we arent descending into chaos doesnt mean we're boring

yes i live in australia. im culturally an Australian. Racially im from all over the world. ive been almost everywhere and i gotta say, after living in Australia for about 8 years, Australia sucks. its boring. nothing happens and the best we're good for is a counterweight and a 'safe haven' for bums-refugees-idiots.
We have no wars. We dont part take in wars or battles other then military 'advisors' or 'supervisors' or, best one- 'observers'. Quote. Wikipedia.

We have no financial explosions or crisis'. We get the splash damage off America.
Is that not exciting enough for the world? I assumed it is but I guess I'm mistaken.

BlakBladz said:
We dont really have that good Tv either. I mean seriously-Neighbours? Home and Away? COME ON PEOPLE
The TV I get is mostly rubbish. I do get hundreds of channels but if I'm watching the television It's probably the History Channel, the Learning Channel, the Discovery Channel or Comedy Central. Besides, if you don't have 40 hours of reality TV a week on the major networks it can't be THAT bad.

BlakBladz said:
We have no history. It started 200 years ago with a poof landing some people who stole bread because they couldnt pay for it and then...nothing till WW1 where we got screwed over by the British. Then WW2 where we got screwed over by Japan. Then Vietnam where we got screwed over by OURSELVES.
Well, the US hasn't been around much longer than Australia. Unfortunately, you didn't have many colonial neighbors to have a delightful series of wars with. Australia got a crummy duty in the first World War but so did England and France. While the Australian/New Zeland forces were more or less annihilated, the better part of a generation of frencmen lost their lives. It was, to put it politely, an ugly skirmish.

BlakBladz said:
No interesting geography or flora/fauna. Where flat, hot and dusty with a rock that looks like a giant mole. Otherwise we have a breathing teddy bear and a kangaroo which will THROW ITS YOUNG at predators to escape because its not worried about creating another.
Are you kidding me? Austrailia is host to 99% of the things not made by man guarnteed to kill you. Hell, you've got giant jumping deer thingies AND adorable bears that apparently claw out the eyes of tourists if they aren't careful

BlakBladz said:
And we dont do much outside our walls either. I have to do an essay on Australias involvement in the UN-our major achievements and our importance. We dont do shit 'siding from being a giant refugee camp or a bank.
Not having an impact on an organization that hasn't accomplished much of anything in the last few decades is probably something to be proud of. Your nation is however an excellent source of hollywood actors, and that has to count for something.

BlakBladz said:
We cant defend ourselves either. We have no particular firearms-we just take em of Europe. No serious ground corps. Nothing above average in aircraft or ground vehicles or navy -we get most of that off the US and Austria. We specialise in Recon.
Who would want to invade? Most of your country is a desert and it's full of things that want nothing more than to sting you and lay eggs in your brain. While it's not a military powerhouse, it can certainly field an army that can spank most of your non-nuclear powers if so inclined. For example, I'm pretty sure Australia could kick the hell out Ethopia, if the two decided to have a war for some reason.

BlakBladz said:
Our dollar isnt worth much in the 1st world either. Dont point out we're like 3rd/4th in the world. Thats because asiding from the US and the UK-everywhere else is a future slave camp waiting to happen or-dirt.
If it makes you feel any better, if you count my portion of the national debt I actually belong to China.
BlakBladz said:
Any other opinions from the public?
I have no real opinion of the continent/nation. I'd like to visit but I can't imagine living there. Really, there are few nations on earth I can imagine living in. Canada would be my first non-us choice, followed by the UK. Australia makes it to number three on my list, but I'm not sure I can handle that whole "December is now summer" nonsense.

I have no idea why I put that number, I even checked the ABS to be sure.
Thanks for the catch.

I know theres good stuff about Australia. i only posted a 1 sided arguement to see what everyone thinks. I dont like people to the slightest bit and large amounts of death and carnage people dont immediantly care. they are statistics. they about how much cash youll lose or how much your going to hear about it on the news and then when the charities start rolling out and so people participate.

Well there are bushfires every year, so since you're apparentely an adreneline junkey why don't you jump into one of those this coming Summer? I'm sure that will be 'fun' enough for you.

Australia is great, everything you've said in the original post would be considered good by the vast majority of the world.

So yeah, congratulations, you just made pretty much every Australian on the forums totally disagree with you and get annoyed.

I personally love Australia, and I've lived here for 16 years (my whole life).

Huh. All I'm seeing there is that we've managed to avoid shitty situations and economic crisis.

TV is crap everywhere, we're in a position where we don't actually need an enormous army because we're in a really difficult position not to be attacked, and we've got plants that are designed to kill people.
