After the whole Blackface thing I read an article which said that Americans were saying that Australians are backwards and racist. At first I was outraged by the comment and the hypocrisy of it, calling an entire group of people backward and racist is itself backward and racist, but then I realised that it was probably a load of shite that the Australian media was writing to get us outraged.
seriously. i haven't heard a word about this or the blackface thing outside of these threads.

Well well, it seems only after a week after the 'Blackface' fiasco, The world is up in arms against Australia again, after a novelty 'Dwarf Race' was held at a Victorian race meet.
is the world REALLY up in arms over this?

Anyway we still haven't got the kangaroos to combat effectiveness yet.
The drop bears are ready to go, though.

Yeah, I really don't have a problem this. It really isn't any worse than the little people in American wrestling. I don't follow that stuff much but I remember seeing an Irish duo who occasionally gets a leprechaun to come out and help him fight. Frankly, I don't see too much of a difference between those two things to criticize the Australian event while not criticizing the American one. The thing at the races was, in my opinion, no worse than giving a your child a piggyback ride. If someone is short enough to ride you like a horse, or at least pretend to, why not? It's more discriminatory to say 'no you can't do that because you're a short person' than to let them get on you're back.

I'm finding it a little bit difficult to see how this causes offense though. If anything, it's holding up little people as a better, maybe even perfect, group of people. People ride horses and most would argue that people are better than horses. Little people ride standard height people so it's kind of possible to make that link. Maybe that's what causes the offense here, standard height people feeling afraid that little people consider themselves equal to or better than themselves. Maybe, but probably not.

Yeah, I figured that, or that at least no-one would of really cared.

EDIT: That's another thing I don't like about the media, they give the most voice to the whiniest losers. The majority of people don't care or don't really know anything about the issue, yet the media only gives voice to the outraged.

After the Chaser's Make a Realistic Wish sketch my father was ranting about how 'they've lost the plot', one of his favourite phrases unfortunately, and that they shouldn't make fun of dying kids. I asked him if he'd actually seen the sketch, his response was no.

I told him the sketch wasn't actually making fun of dying kids. He responded with something like "but that's what they've been saying on the news". Like I said, a lot of people just don't know what they're talking about when all the information they have comes from television news out for ratings and tabloid journalism.
