Well I never really cared for it. The politicans are allowed to run the country any way it wants and if the people don't like that, they would have voted them out long ago.

Why complain about something that the majority of Aussies chose?

Actually, Michael Atkinson is the Attourney General of only ONE state (South Australia). He's only voted for in that particular state.

Most of you are Irish, so you're good in my book.

And you have fucking awesome accents.

So I can get past all the government not liking gaming stuff.
Wait ... we have awesome accents??? Are you insane!?!?! I would kill for an Irish accent ... no seriously, your accents are freakin' awesome.

OT: When I think 'Australia' I think poisonous animals [small][sub](which will save us from any zombie apocalypses BTW)[/sub][/small] such as the platypus.

I only think 'laid-back and awesome' when I think Australian

Michael Atkinson makes a nice distraction from Rudd's current determination to filter our internet. Something like 3% of the population supports it, and they keep trialling it. WE DO NOT WANT IT. IT IS USELESS. GO AWAY.

Out of curiosity, where is the "Land of everything that wants to kill you" poll option?

It's not like we're dodging killer insects on a daily basis. Things are pretty cool here unless you like anything that challenges traditional morality. Like say games, or the internet which leads me to cry for help to stop this internet censorship!!
Exactly. Not having an adults classification for games is one thing, but having the Australian ISP's filtering out the Australian internet in its entirety is one big problem. It is still going to fail even if it goes through, it's just going to cost us taxpayers 44 million. Most Australians don't want it, but hey, it looks like it's going to happen anyway. The lucky country my rear end.

All that came to my mind was an image of the continent, then a brief image of that Crocodile Dundee stereotype.

Don't worry, I know real Australians don't fit the stereotypes.
You should hear my Paul Hogan impression on Skype some time. The American Escapists love it.

Considering how poor the online portion of America's opinion of us is, the sensibility of this thread far outweighs the national guilt I feel as an Australian. I don't even make racist jokes because my cousin is Aboriginal and my second best mate is Chinese and was born here because his parents fled 6/4 (look it up).

At least we have nice beaches and our local book industry is high quality despite high prices. I could probably argue about how EVERYTHING, not just video games, is more expensive here.

I wanted to see the Ponyo Blu-Ray so bad but Disney screwed us AND Europe.

3%? Seriously? I really don't think it's anywhere near that high. At the moment it's looking like the Great Firewall of Australia isn't going anywhere, as labor don't have enough votes in the senate to pass it. [sub]Also because people will probably riot if they feel they are being oppressed.[/sub]

I love Australians, its even in my heritage. Plus I was even conveted to supporting you in the last Ashes series by a group of rowdy Aussies in uni, not through pressure, just class.

In all honesty when I think of Australia I think of the plants, animals, and mountains but considering it's this site and I just saw the ZP cartoon from last week, I figured this thread would be about Atkins.

He sounds like a total dbag and most politicians are but does he have any sort of redeeming qualities? Few politicians do.

I am the first to start with the racist jokes, unless it's obviously stupid. However, I can't really hate anyone. I never hate an ethnicity, always that single person. I think Australians are p[pretty cool, I'd love to meet one again and I think that it's a beautiful place to live.

I see, then allow me to rephrase,

Why complain when the majority of South Australia have chosen that politican?

Australia is awesome but the first thing I thought was, ANIMALS THAT CAN KILL YOU. If that isn't beauty what is?:p

My Auntie and Uncle(and then there family that is now there ofcourse) have been living there for 10years or so(i'm not sure) When I went I arrived about 3am after a 27hours plane trip then I was told I was going to a Aussie Rules game, go Bulldogs woo:p It ended a draw though. I didn't expect a draw. Also different fans sitting together, and no fighting! I was surprised.

RE: topic question.

I'd have to go with the whole internet censorship issue. But is that a poll choice?

Meh, we imported a copy of L4D2. Still leaves me wondering why we are able to watch SAW movies and not be allowed blood and gore in a single game *shrugs* And since I live in Australia with a gamer partner my first thought is so obviously Atkinson.
