Well I never really cared for it. The politicans are allowed to run the country any way it wants and if the people don't like that, they would have voted them out long ago.

Why complain about something that the majority of Aussies chose?
Actually, Michael Atkinson is the Attourney General of only ONE state (South Australia). He's only voted for in that particular state.
I see, then allow me to rephrase,

Why complain when the majority of South Australia have chosen that politican?
Because I live in Queensland.

Australia is awesome but the first thing I thought was, ANIMALS THAT CAN KILL YOU. If that isn't beauty what is?:p

My Auntie and Uncle(and then there family that is now there ofcourse) have been living there for 10years or so(i'm not sure) When I went I arrived about 3am after a 27hours plane trip then I was told I was going to a Aussie Rules game, go Bulldogs woo:p It ended a draw though. I didn't expect a draw. Also different fans sitting together, and no fighting! I was surprised.
No fighting fans? At a Bulldogs game? You must be the luckiest pleb to ever come down. You've experienced something only one in a billion ever get to see. A placid 'dogs fan.

It's come to my attention that here, especially being a community of gamers, any mention of Australia (the country, film, drinking game, etc.) pretty much must degenerates into "ALL GAMERS ARE HATED IN AUSTRALIA WE SHOULD BOYCOTT THIS COUNTRY"

No, I don't like what Michael Atkinson is doing, no, I don't like the way that we don't have a R18+ rating for videogames. But at the same time, this affects maybe 10 percent of the population (if that), and well, I often have more important things to do than rage over the graphics in Left 4 Dead 2. Especially when I'm too busy raging about the American who has voted to kick me for the 20th time over missing that one pounce as a hunter. And generally taking things WAY too seriously (in between making fun of me for having a cut down version of L4D).

What I'm actually trying to say is this: Can we, as a community, PLEASE get over it. This really only affects Australians, and then only Australian gamers. We won't change anything if all the outsiders see us as are knee-jerk reacting cockbags who jump at the smallest thing to get worked up about, and NEVER let it go.
Please add Spiders to the Poll.

That is one of my reasons of never going. I have a horrible fear of spiders.
20 Year old guy, Turns into 4 year old girl when it comes to spiders. Im talking about UK spiders, None of these "SPIDERS ON STEROIDS" that the ozzies have!

So I noticed you don't have an 'all of the above' option.

That being said I probably shouldn't vote on the poll being Australian and overly biased towards my green and gold country.

When I think of Australia, I think of Texas in America, but with kangaroos, and more barbecues. And better looking men.

Huntsmans aren't all that venomous, but because they tear the flesh from ther prey your bite might get infected.

You didn't mention the Redback Spider! For those of you who don't know this little guy is made famous for both the red strip on its bum and its habit for hiding in backyard toilets and biting people on the privates.

You also failed to mention the Whitetail Spider. This little bastard injects a venom that breaks down the blood cells effectively causing them to rot. If you don't seek treatment you'll have to have your limb removed!!!!!

oooooooo you also need to watch out for the Trapdoor spider (yes it makes a burrow with a little trap door hence the name)and the Wolf Spider which is a little more poisonous than a Huntsman and about the same size as one. They get their name cause their eyes glow like wolves eyes (if wolves had eight eyes) when you shine a torch on them and because of their maternal instincts (For the first few weeks of their lives, the baby wolf spiders follow the mum wolf spider around like a wolf pack - creepy and amazing to see)

Uhh.. I've never seen a discussion about Australia break down into that.. It mostly turns into everyone crying about the deadly bugs.

Its not that bad, when you live this close to death every day you start to appreciate life a lot more.

I think of home, greatness and the subtle racisim thats around.

Micheal Atkinson makes me want to carpet bomb Croyden more and more every day.
OT: (Always wanted to do that) I thought it was a 'who lives here' topic when I saw it.

Another option you could have on your poll is "A former prison colony"

As for what I think of Australia, seems like a nice place besides the internet filtering and uptight censoring regulations

The Wildlife here isn't that bad. I have only come close to death a few times as a result of indigenous species. Both times it was Funnel Webs. Michael Atkinson isn't a big deal, there are ways around his "ban", such as importing games. How he got elected is simple, as the rest of his policy is solid and the fact that he is from Croyden in South Australia, an area full of dying old people.

When I think of Australia, I think of my home, as well as the huge landmass and its inhabitants.

Not likely going to get many people from asia voting for option no2. All those recent attacks on foreigners are not helping Australia's image as multi-cultural or laid back.
I've seen that on the news and it pisses me off because the moment someone else of a different nationality is killed it automatically becomes a racist hate crime and is made news worthy but when someone kills someone of the same nationality it's no big deal.
