So, I could drive less than 5 minutes to see the movie Avatar. OR, should I drive an extra two plus hours to see it in 3D? I've seen movies in Real D like "My bloody Valentine", and I don't think it added much to the movie. I understand that Avatar has a huge budget. But, is it really worth a four hour round trip? Let me know what you think.

(James Cameron has more money than the guy who invented auto tune)

Also, its becoming apparent that 3D technology is going to stick around for awhile? I feel like in most cases this will mean budget sacrifices. I fear that writing and casting will take a backseat for something that may only prove to be a short lived gimmick. Will I have to suffer through a few years of mediocre plots just to see a fad pass? Will this technology be well executed or just a new way to watch porn. Because we all know thats the way things naturally progress.

I think this kind of topic has been done to death but here goes.

Avatar was the greatest movie experience of my life, and seeing it in 3D was the best choice I made. I saw it twice in 3D. It is extremely worth it, and you will not regret it, I promise you.

Go for 3D, you won't regret it...

Also, smuggle in your junk food/soda. They owe you for that drive...

Well, i can't stand watching movies in 3D, watching them makes my eyes hurt and they give me a bit of a head ache. sooo i guess it depends on the person. Plus, i don't think that seeing something in 3D really changes the whole experience. As long as you can be pulled into the fictional world presented to you, you'll have all the emersion you need.

I saw the movie in 3-D. It looked cool but I felt that the "textured" backgrounds didn't add all that much to the movie. For me anyway the 3-D glasses got painful about halfway through the movie and I had a headache for the whole second half.

If you want to pay an extra five bucks in order to see a blurrier version of the movie where the colours are not as vivid but there's this slight silly fish-eye effect, then yes, you should definitely drive the extra two hours.

I agree. Avatar made a butt load of money. I'm afraid that other producers will try it and give us crap wrapped in 3D magic.

Avatar in IMAX 3D was the single greatest cinematic experience of my life. So yes. Definitely.

Avatar is the sort of film that is only really good in 3d.

But it is a long drive, so that would be up to you.

Ice Age 3 however was a film that used 3D really well. It had a real depth to it that many films don't seem to take advantage of.

Avatar is only worth it in 3D... in 2D it'S pretty much an typical sci-fi movie with the plot of Poncahontas and Last Samourail... In 3D it's a whole experience

Also, bring a girl since it's such a long drive. Well unless you are a girl.. actually, I'm not gonna make any assumptions. Nevermind.

Bring a friend.

Even the haters (I think) have experienced the pinnacle of 3D viewing. You should too :)

I've only seen it in 3D so I can't really say how much better it is. But if I was you, I'd be seeing the 2D version. An extra 2+ hours is unreasonable.
