Let me set the scene real quick: It's homecoming week. This is a week long period of time in my school where people are designated to dress up as certain things, like different patterns or colors and such. Today's dress up dealy was career day. Pick a career and dress up.

Now this is where things get controversial, according to my teacher. Being the hilarious guy I try to be, I choose to dress up as a panhandler, a hobo if you will (a career, just not one that you can sustain a life). I wore shabby clothes, fingerless gloves, mismatched shoes, a sign, and a collection pan. Apparently this was "offensive" to my teacher and in bad taste.

What's your opinion on this? Was it right or in bad taste?

Honestly?
That's a bit of an ass move.
One I personally would have a good chuckle at, but an ass move nonetheless.

That is awesome...it is more original than most people would be and IS and actual job that some people have to do.

Still...funny!

Did the teacher say why he/she was offended?

OT: It wasn't in bad taste, IMO. I find it quite a good idea.

Being in bad taste doesn't make it not funny. You should have said something about the teacher not letting reality intrude on the class. Then you would've gotten suspended for a week (Or, at least I did).

Apologies Abound

i don't know if it's a job, more a lack thereof.
but it's not in bad taste, it's funny to us at least.
and bad taste is an awful reason to be offended. i'd say your teacher overreacted.

I got that for writing five essays on why the essay question lacked depth.

OT: No, you were just pointing out a specific social problem.

I suppose it's not really a career; more like a lack of one.

I'm not offended by this, and I can't figure out why anyone would be. To be honest, I'm not sure where the line is with bad taste. I suppose it is, but I don't know why.

I don't mean that in an arrogant or pompous way - I'm not saying that no-one should find this in bad taste - I just mean that I don't know why it would be considered 'bad taste'.

Awesome! We should start a little club!

In fact, I'm going to start a thread about that issue right now.

Apologies for your trouble.

You should have dressed up like a nerd and had a shirt saying my Second Life just got ruined.

That would be really funny, however i think no one would understand it.

Your teacher is just stuck up.
You rather hit the nail on the head lol. She's overly-politically correct, to the point of suffication. When we brought speakers in, she refused to let us play a song that had "strung out" in the lyrics. Well, my mind is at ease now that I've heard the voice of reason, that it's really not in that bad of taste.

Curse these misleading threads, 2nd one in a row. I thought this was going to be about the Peter Jackson film.

OT: Nah I don't think it was. I would have found that funny as hell. Actually I probably would have done it with you.

That is really funny.

I do not think that it is in bad taste. Begging is one of the world`s oldest professions and I think that you were right to give them representation. Begging is a viable career option.

Your teacher probably meant, `bad taste` because many people are loosing their jobs right now.
