My school had "dress like a saint/holy figure day"
...I dressed like Santa...and got bitched at...
But he was a saint, he was a giving good-hearted man...Wait, The one that's dead, or the one with the eating disorder and odd fashion sense?

Perhaps they were looking for an officially recognized job. You know, that provides a steady monetary income (begging doesn't count)

I would have given you a small "lol". Not really that bad of taste, but I guess it depends on how exposed you are to homeless people. For instance, most of the homeless people here are crazy or drugged out and caused their own misfortune. I don't really feel sorry for those types of hobos. Now, someone who lost their job due to the condition of the market and is still trying to get back up on their feet, sure I'll help you out *gives $20*.

I think it's hilarious.
You should have responded with, "No, what's offensive is people who drive their Hummers out to a spot, get out, and sit on the curb like they're homeless to panhandle $40K a year. That's offensive."

I would have given you a high-five.
I think that is hilarious and your teacher needs to get the stick out of their ass.

If teachers can complain about how our government deals with unemployment and homelessness, students can do stuff like that. I've heard teachers say crap much worse than any statement you may have made with that costume.

Kudos to you! Honestly nice one, anyone who finds that offensive has either no sense of humour or needs to understand that things like this don't mean anything that should ever be taken seriously.

you were thinking out of the box. What teacher in good conscience can quell creativity? Not in bad taste at all. I personally would have gone with a McDonald's employee.

Absolutely, but it's the best kind of bad taste. I love it, by the way, but it was definitely tasteless. Kudos to you, sir, kudos to you.

Honestly?
That's a bit of an ass move.
One I personally would have a good chuckle at, but an ass move nonetheless.
I have to agree with Neonbob here. Sure it's good for a few laughs, but showing up as a hobo as your career of choice, is just a little rude to general spirit of event.

Tell our stupid teacher I read somewhere that hobo's in the UK make like 250 euros a day begging :0

I know a lot of peope working medial jobs that wouldn't mind getting this amount!!!

Tip: see if you can find some info on how much homeless can make begging online and present the facts to that stupid teacher!
Btw TIP stands for To Insure Promptness, but then again I am full of useless information :p

your teacher is a twat. That would only be offensive to someone who actually LOST their home, and is subsequently "homeless"... or the rich right wing, but everything after 1958 offends them

I would have found it funny, but also used it as a teaching point to discuss the choice of choosing not to work.

Not to be an ass here and argue, but only about 1/3 of the school dressed up. The hilights were a couple of doctors, a snowboarder, flamingo wrangler, and Dwight from the office which was awesome. My only other option was going to be a professional Australian stereotype, but I did not feel like hauling a didgeradoo and boomerangs around school.

I could have gone as the shirtless cowboy from New York, who is not only a panhandler but a succesful (though crazy) guy, but I have neither the body nor the diaper (or the guitar):p.
